It's nice if the intermittent wipers work but there's no good reason it ought to kill them altogether if the control box fails. This will give you wipers and that's all you need!
Found out my black box has no broken solder inside so the covered contact points must be my problem, because I've heard they let go on board can make a problem working right.
I added intermittent wipers to my uncle's 91 and got 2 bad delay boxes from the junkyard. I opened them up and both boxes had broken solder joints. I resoldered them and they both worked after the repair.
Ah crap...I'd kind of like to have intermittent...I hear the placement right above the park brake isn't good as it shocks it every time you disengage. Probably why the solder joints break, also a bad joint maybe. I'm just glad to have wipers!!!
I may take that on. I'd like to use the same hole in the dash though. Bet it could be remote operated somehow. How long has your switch been in place? If you re-solder and they last for a few years I may not even bother relocating it.
@@heliarche I did it about 5 years ago and he sold the truck last year. I think just wire tied the box under the dash somewhere. I don't remember specifically but I'm pretty sure I didn't bolt it in place. I used the same hole and knob from the original 2 speed switch
Just took off that black box but it started raining. Might be hardest screws I’ve ever had to reach. 5.5 is a weird size. I had a short little wrench gripped by a pair of vice grips. Hope I don’t have to put it back.
Ok I connected the switch to the harness,(your first method) and the wipers kind of worked for a few seconds and now nothing again. Anyone got any ideas?
Hey thanks for the reply. Mines a 89, I changed the wiper motor a few years ago. I did your cheap method, and the wipers kind of worked a few times then stopped. I bought the new non intermittent switch. I noticed it doesn’t have a ground wire while the old one does. But anyway I plugged it in and nothing. Could I have blown a fuse? I live in Hawaii on the rainy side. So my bronco is pretty much useless right now. Thanks for the help. It’s very much appreciated.
@@montanawhite5699The fuse is a good place to start. Any electrical problems ever, check fuses. Another thing, turn the wipers on and try wiggling the connectors to the motor and the switch. Also give a slight tug on the wires. Not hard enough to break them, just move them around a little bit. If a wire has a break, wiggling around on them might make the wiper work for a bit and then you know the problem. Same for connectors.
Your video has helped me track down what my problem might be... Just a quick question, when you plug the standard switch (the one without intermittent) do the wipers still park properly when shut off? Or do they stop wherever they are when the switch is off?
@@heliarche thanks! I pulled the cover off the switch and looks like someone tried to grease the wiper motor. The whole surface and contacts were covered in 3 different colours of grease. Wiped it off and it works great now. Thanks again.
thank god went into the ditch last night because of this my wipers just stopped working mid stroke in a downpour then when the bronco jolted from leaving the road they came back to life they quit 5 more times on the wat to work one time buzzing at me
@@Friedrich-Wilhelm-1980 Of course. Everything fails. You can go to any back 40 loaded with rotten out cars and I bet at least half the wipers work though.
Been a while on this'n...I can't say for sure off hand with confidence and I don't want to show you wrong. It was just "87 Bronco wiper switch" I forget but I think it's a two speed switch. Non intermittent was the big thing.

Thank you! This issue has been driving me crazy (no pun intended) and I do not feel like spending $150 on a new wiper governor.
Glad to help!
Thanks for this video. It was very helpful to my problem. Didn’t know you could bypass the control switch. 👍👍👍👍
I'm happy this helped! Wipers ought to be one of those things that just don't fail unless there's something catastrophic going on.

Dig that! I forget how it went exactly. I'll sure check into grabbing a switch and box. Thanks!

@@montanawhite5699Try the proper switch. It's cheap and might work for you. Your wiper motor itself could also be going to crap. Is yours an 87?
