The Tiger 900 Rally is a nice bike, but for the price it darn well should be. For similar money I'd probably favor the new BMW F900 GS, but in all honesty if I were looking to spend that much on a new bike I'd just go all the way and buy a new Goldwing and be done with it. Coming back to reality though where one has financial commitments and responsibilities, my self-imposed limit for buying a bike (new or used) is $10-12k as for me it will always just be a luxury item that I can only enjoy 8 or 9 months out of the year.
Great review. Absolutely agree about the GT pro being the gold standard. I got a KTM790 Adventure instead of a Transalp luckily so with the tech pack open, I'm getting a lot of goodies like cruise, tubeless, cornering abs, low center weight, 95hp, 2 pos. seat, and more. Still cannot compete with the Tiger but it's a lot better than the Transalp. I'd also love the GT pro but can't afford it and even if I could, it's a lot of money like you said. Maybe you can consider the Tracer 900GT+, which also has everything, just not an off-road bike. Can't wait for the Suzuki testing you were talking about.
Had a 2022 900 Rally Pro, then upgraded to the 1200 Rally Pro. Conclusion I came to was the 900 was the better/easier bike to live with overall. Ended up swapping the 1200 for a Harley Low Rider ST which has been a fun change of pace. Unfortunately, I got the ADV bug again so I’m taking delivery of a Transalp next week largely based off your long term coverage of the bike.

Here in my part of the US, they didnt sell very well (that should be "quickly"). My local dealer couldnt keep RPs in stock, most sold before delivery. On the other hand, they had a pair of standard Rally sitting for a few months. Those that did buy them, added many of the options the RP came with standard. I considered buying one in 2022 when they offered me a nice discount, but found a used 21 RP, 1600 miles with all the proper farkles, at less than the discounted price for a Rally.
I tried a Tiger 900 Rally Pro before settling on a KTM 890 Adventure largely because of the buzz from the engine at higher speeds induced by the “T plane” crank. I rode one for several hours in the US but at low speeds dictated by their backroads and loved it’s low end grunt which led me to try one having found my ATAS DCT just too heavy and ponderous (with, to me, wooden front brakes). Did you find it smooth enough?
The KTM is sportier, but I found the Tiger more comfortable. I agree that the AT feels heavy, but I'm looking forward to trying the 2024 model to see how far the tweaks have gone.
@@RocketMan_Moto Thanks. I wasn’t after sportiness as such but the low centre of gravity was a revelation after the Honda. Pity the comfort isn’t great plus, to your point on the seat to footrest distance even for me it’s cramped. The Honda footrests were also too far forward to me. I might give new the Tiger a whirl.
You forget that it has everything already included in the price, while other manufacturers give you a bare bones bike for not much less and then still have to add all the optional extras.
I’m always slightly surprised whenever I hear a UA-camr mention anything about not being able to afford something! I guess I must think that the rules of economics don’t apply to them- even though I know better! Plus,for some reason I always feel like everyone else has money, and I’m the only one who has to watch what they buy!
I own the Rally Pro, and I prefer it to GT Pro which I rode on the test ride. With Rally Pro I rode from UK to the Alps twice and travelled many off road routes as a new rider. I would not be able to make it on the GT version. As I got used to the 21 inch front wheel, I find it more suitable for road riding as well :) It certainly doesn't luck any power and unless you want to race on the motorway high speeds which most of us don't do, it goes head to head with all other bigger bikes like the GS, KTM's etc. I took my time while searching for the best bike for me, and now 2 years later I can confirm it was excellent choice. Strong, tall, comfortable, suitable off and on road, economical. What more do you need? Great for mountain passes on and off road, good for motorways and city traffic when you get used to it.
I bought a then new 2022 rally pro in green as per your demo ..absolutely loved it , all day comfortable ..other than a very slight top heavy feeling it was superb…however did 2 long tours round Lake District and coming home started to get numb right wrist ..this then manifested itself into being able to ride it less and less before the numbness set in , got to 20 mins max ..I used my big 1200 XE scram during this time and had no issues ..so reluctantly after 3 months and over 3k miles I sold it for a GS as I wasn’t gonna gamble on the 1200 being vibey as well …I know latest model has had a lot of work done to minimise the vibes ..but I’d recommend spending a day on one and doing a lot of miles to see if it affects you before parting with dosh on one ..if not for the vibes prob the best bike I’ve ever owned..

I experienced the same thing with my Rally Pro. I came from BMW GS and GSA. I had had brief test rides on the RP, then bought a used one. Dint realize until my first long day ride. The handlebar geometry was uncomfortable and left me sore and numb as well. I compared the rise and sweep to those of my BMWs and found that the Triumph was much "flatter" (like a MTB bar). I looked into replacing the bars with aftermarket ones, but Triumph put the wiring for heated grips IN the bar so would make modification difficult. With further checking I discovered that the Rally and GT models have different handlebar part numbers, Could not find info on geometry for GT bar, but found one "used" for low enough to be worth a try. Bingo! Same width as RP bar, same sweep and rise as Beemer bars! And it came with the switch cluster removal tool. Swapped out in an hour (I broke and repaired a grip heater connector). Been perfect ever since!
I also had the same experience with the Rally Pro and traded for a BMW F850GS. The F850GS was ok, but not very exciting. I traded that for the F900GS and... WOW, what a great bike. Highly recommend the F900GS. Amazing bike.
It is a revelation when you sit on a bike that is the right size. I have the same problem as you, I'm 6'4" on a good day and have just finished tuning the size and riding position of my Super Tenere. Well, then I sat on last year's Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE. well I had thought that the more road focused XC would be more my style but the XE is just the perfect fit for me. Apart from having no weather protection, I'd probably trade up, but I'll now have to have a look at the 900 Rally Pro. But I very rarely go off road, but there are a few dirt roads in Tasmania. Decisions, decisions. 😊

Hi from Greece! I am looking also for the tiger 900 GT pro and I have a question for you. What about BMW F 900 adventure, it has 21 inch front wheel and it’s about €19,000 also with all the extras. I personally think that triumph is more complete.
I bought the F900GS (previously owned the Rally Pro). The F900GS is an amazing bike. Yes, the tank is small, but it gets great gas mileage and is an absolute blast to ride. Plus, the quick shifter actually works when you get it wet, unlike the Triumph. Definitely test ride the F900GS.
@beatsmarttie5777 I'm not a fan of the Chinese made engine either, but a 3 yr / 36k mile warranty says they believe it will hold up. It is a very loud engine (in terms of mechanical noise), but it runs well and I wear ear plugs anyway. So, as long as it stays reliable, it will have to do. Triumph does the same these days - only their's comes from Thailand. It's the way things are done these days. As long as it doesn't break down, I'll ride the thing. In a perfect world, it would be nice if it had a German made engine, but whatever - it is what it is.

Unfortunately we live in a global world these days, and yes, the Chinese often make cheap junk , but they also have the capability to manufacture to a very high quality standard. Quality all depend on what the OEM parent company like BMW demand from their production process. Also, if that 750/850/ and now 800/900GS was all made in Germany, it would cost almost 75-100% more
Always enjoy your videos for sure. I got the 2012 Tiger Explorer. Going to any of the 900's I'm gonna miss the shaft drive. I'd love something much more manageable in weight and height. I'm 65yo. My 2012 has 55K US miles on it. Had it for so long. I'm really not sure what to do with the old gal. I don't need another new bike, but I want the GT-Pro. Four other bikes to ride but none comfortable for long rides like the Explorer. Ugh 😂. I'll figure it out. Like I said at the start. Always enjoy your video's.
Always find out the service cost for your reviews, Ive heard Triumph are expensive to own. Have you tested the CF 800 with a 4 yr warranty and the Vstrom 1050 at a more affordable price point
Finally got to take a test ride of one this morning, have to say the vibes (for me anyway) have gone now, I feel its night and day (vibes) from the previous model Tiger 900 I rode last year. I will likely get the suspension set up for me but as off this morning I've just ordered one in the Ash Grey colour which will replace my current (heavy Adventure bike). The ride was very good, I can live with the slower response on the screen I've seen many people comment on, ride height was perfect for me, its approx 30kg lighter than my current bike and in sport mode the bike is superb. Finally Triumph have made the bike they should have a few years ago when they initially released it. Bring on June now as I can't wait.
Is there any marked aerodynamic advantage for the beak? Because they always seem to be the clear negative in the looks dept. It's a deal breaker for me and so many do it so I must be in the minority if they keep pumping them out across most brands.
Good to hear you like the new 900RP, I like for same reasons but went with a 2022 new shape 1200 RP with 3450 mile at £13,350 I couldn’t say no to it and prefer over the 900 due to larger engine and also a big reason shaft drive. Not sure what a nearly new 1200 RP is there and wonder if you have test ridden one ?
It does look like a sweet bike, but as you note, that's a lot of $$. Maybe it's in line competitors ... I don't keep 'em all straight. Great video as always 👍 Considering cost which is hugely important 😀 the Transalp wins 🏆 hands down. Buying a touring bike 🏍 is only part of the overall cost of motorcycling. Without listing everything else involved in the overall cost of buying an Adventure bike. Cost of touring 2k Motorcycle gear 2k Fuel ⛽️ Service costs etc etc Honda made a really good touring bike in the Transalp. Its interesting comparing bikes as long as they're in the same price bracket 😊
I‘ve had my Tiger 850 Sport for nearly 3 years now and would dearly love to swap it for a 900 Rally Pro for all the reasons you mention (I too am 6‘2”tall and would like to have more leg room). My local Triumph dealer (in Switzerland) has a special edition Rally Aragon on sale at a knock down price, and as far as I can tell it is almost identical to the Rally Pro apart from added crash bars but no heated seats. I can‘t figure out why the dealer has been unable to shift either of the Aragon models he has in stock. Would you know anything about whether this special edition was somehow less desirable than a normal 900? Thanks.
I’m afraid the Aragons are now going cheap, because they’re the previous generation. None of the improvements of the facelifted bikes I’ve tested recently. This means 13hp less, smaller TFT screen, undamped bars, less comfortable seat… The money you save now, you’ll lose when you sell😬
Interesting feedback. You are second reviewer to say that the Rally Pro handles or feels better than the GT Pro. Seat height is so crucial for handling. I'm only 5'9 and I still prefer to ride bikes with the seat in high position. Even if it means only one foot down when stationary. Honda can keep their gold rims haha. I'm only a fan when they are a premium brand. It's a bit like painting non brembo brakes red. Just shouldn't be done. Looking forward to your reviews on the Suzuki and Aprillia. Thank you RM
It's lovely, for a price, as you say. I don't know if you keep them to higher mileages, but the valve job on Triumphs is extortionate. But, it is nice. Why not? Ride safe. Spring is coming! 👍

Nice bike, shame about the stickers. Triumph seem to have surpassed themselves with the number of tank stickers on this one - why do they find it necessary to put far more infuriating stickers all over their tanks than any other manufacturer? Rant over, thanks for another great review.
After watching your GT review , I had a test ride and I agree with you the rally is comfier and has better suspension. The toggle switch is ridiculously close to the indicators, so I could only scroll up. That niggle aside I went for the rally pro, pick up in a couple of weeks 👍

just too expensive now for what they offer. basically 1200 gs money from 20 years ago, but with out the 1200 gs. just a 900 triumph... Is it good enough for the money? Personally no. Plus, I am pretty much done with the adventure bike segment. Way too expensive and to be honest the only real contender is the 1300 gs, love it or hate it (and if you can afford it) it really is the bench mark. and has been for over 25 years now...
@@RocketMan_Moto agreed. The gsa will be a better bike. It typically is. I had a 2013 gsa for 5 years. What a bike that was. But the gs of that time wasn’t even half the bike. It lacked the larger fly wheel, and some how that seemed to make a massive difference to the whole feel of the bike. I can’t be bothered to get on the bmw finance merry go round again. So, I just bought a ktm 890 smt, (this time I saved up and paid for it in 1 go. And that makes a massive amount of sense with a motor bike. Now I get to enjoy it guilt free.

Hi, I don't understand why you get more leg space while riding on the rally pro over the GT pro. It is the same bike, I can understand it when you are standing still, but not when you are riding as it is the same bike. The ground clearance is higher because of the dampers right? So if you have the seat in high position on both, the legroom should be the same when you ride it?
Hello! Nice review, but "more comfort due to the higher seat" makes no sense for me. It's only taller because the whole bike is taller.The distance between the pegs and the seat should be exactly the same on both models.
So can you honestly say the Tiger is better on road to flick through the corners than the Transalp? I find the Honda amazing in that category. I realise the Tiger suspension is far superior to the Honda.
Honestly... I don't care too much about handling on an adventure bike. I'm lucky in having more than one bike, and I will get the Speed Twin out if I want a blast in the hills :)

Exactly. I'm always a bit wary of multi-brand dealers. If I have a problem with the Stelvio's shaft drive, for example, will a mechanic who's more used to servicing Vespas be up to the job?
I was told (by a dealer, so take it with a grain of salt) that you should buy the best you can afford at the time....buy once, buy right. Marketing/sales hyperbole? Perhaps...But i was in the habit of buying below my budget and I was swapping bikes every year or so. So, i took the salesmans advice and bought the best bike I could afford (meaning no finance and no sacrifices from elsewhere in the budget) and ended up with an r1250gs. Its been a year and 4 months and I haven't looked at swapping bikes....yet. So maybe that salesman was right. Once again, excellent content Rocketman.
100% agree with this statement. Forever changing cars and bikes because I always settled. To be financially "sensible." But in reality, I was spending more by losing money on selling bikes I wasn't content with.
I agree, but tbf 'chopping and changing' has taught me a lot about bikes. When I first started, I knew next to nothing about them and bought myself a 2004 Triumph Daytona - nice to look at but a real pig to ride. Live and learn, I guess :)
Glad to see they changed the display graphics. I've grown accustomed to the one on my 2021, but my goodness....what were they thinking. I changed the handlebars to a set from a GT which have a tad more sweep (fortunately found them second hand and only cost me $90), and bought a set of SW-M ION pegs which are adjustable and dropped the peg height by almost an inch. This really opened up the cockpit for my 6'1" x 34" inseam frame. I came off ten years on GS and GSAs, and I had no issue at all with the feeling from the 21". The twitchy-ness can be "dialed down" by raising the front end with preload, and removing a bit from the rear. Amazing bike really, very happy with it. Oh yes...after two years with it, I still find myself trying to select modes with the turn signal =P PS: I consider that phone holder useless for storage, but that space makes for a great location for relays. Switched (only comes on when engine is running), powers relays controlling lights and GPS.
Do you feel a big difference between 19" and 21" ? I am used to riding a 19" cb500x, that's why I tend towards gt pro, v85tt, stelvio or suzuki 800re. I am 1,80. Cheers ✌️

Good to hear! I agree about the 21" wheel; once you get used to it, as I have on my Transalp, I actually find smaller wheels a bit too twitchy.

Bingo! Same width as RP bar, same sweep and rise as Beemer bars! And it came with the switch cluster removal tool. Swapped out in an hour (I broke and repaired a grip heater connector). Been perfect ever since!
I also had the same experience with the Rally Pro and traded for a BMW F850GS. The F850GS was ok, but not very exciting. I traded that for the F900GS and... WOW, what a great bike. Highly recommend the F900GS. Amazing bike.

It is a revelation when you sit on a bike that is the right size. I have the same problem as you, I'm 6'4" on a good day and have just finished tuning the size and riding position of my Super Tenere. Well, then I sat on last year's Triumph Scrambler 1200 XE. well I had thought that the more road focused XC would be more my style but the XE is just the perfect fit for me. Apart from having no weather protection, I'd probably trade up, but I'll now have to have a look at the 900 Rally Pro. But I very rarely go off road, but there are a few dirt roads in Tasmania. Decisions, decisions. 😊
The Scrambler 1200s are lovely bikes, although I'd be a bit worried about that high exhaust during the summer months here??

Hi from Greece! I am looking also for the tiger 900 GT pro and I have a question for you. What about BMW F 900 adventure, it has 21 inch front wheel and it’s about €19,000 also with all the extras. I personally think that triumph is more complete.

I bought the F900GS (previously owned the Rally Pro). The F900GS is an amazing bike. Yes, the tank is small, but it gets great gas mileage and is an absolute blast to ride. Plus, the quick shifter actually works when you get it wet, unlike the Triumph. Definitely test ride the F900GS.

@beatsmarttie5777 I'm not a fan of the Chinese made engine either, but a 3 yr / 36k mile warranty says they believe it will hold up. It is a very loud engine (in terms of mechanical noise), but it runs well and I wear ear plugs anyway. So, as long as it stays reliable, it will have to do. Triumph does the same these days - only their's comes from Thailand. It's the way things are done these days. As long as it doesn't break down, I'll ride the thing. In a perfect world, it would be nice if it had a German made engine, but whatever - it is what it is.

Unfortunately we live in a global world these days, and yes, the Chinese often make cheap junk , but they also have the capability to manufacture to a very high quality standard. Quality all depend on what the OEM parent company like BMW demand from their production process. Also, if that 750/850/ and now 800/900GS was all made in Germany, it would cost almost 75-100% more
Always enjoy your videos for sure. I got the 2012 Tiger Explorer. Going to any of the 900's I'm gonna miss the shaft drive. I'd love something much more manageable in weight and height. I'm 65yo. My 2012 has 55K US miles on it. Had it for so long. I'm really not sure what to do with the old gal. I don't need another new bike, but I want the GT-Pro. Four other bikes to ride but none comfortable for long rides like the Explorer. Ugh 😂. I'll figure it out. Like I said at the start. Always enjoy your video's.

Always find out the service cost for your reviews, Ive heard Triumph are expensive to own. Have you tested the CF 800 with a 4 yr warranty and the Vstrom 1050 at a more affordable price point
I’ve owned several Triumphs and found they’re not really any more expensive than other brands😊Tried the 800MT but didn’t like the engine very much.
Finally got to take a test ride of one this morning, have to say the vibes (for me anyway) have gone now, I feel its night and day (vibes) from the previous model Tiger 900 I rode last year. I will likely get the suspension set up for me but as off this morning I've just ordered one in the Ash Grey colour which will replace my current (heavy Adventure bike). The ride was very good, I can live with the slower response on the screen I've seen many people comment on, ride height was perfect for me, its approx 30kg lighter than my current bike and in sport mode the bike is superb. Finally Triumph have made the bike they should have a few years ago when they initially released it. Bring on June now as I can't wait.

Is there any marked aerodynamic advantage for the beak? Because they always seem to be the clear negative in the looks dept. It's a deal breaker for me and so many do it so I must be in the minority if they keep pumping them out across most brands.
Afaik the beak is just for 'style' on these large adventure bikes??
Good to hear you like the new 900RP, I like for same reasons but went with a 2022 new shape 1200 RP with 3450 mile at £13,350 I couldn’t say no to it and prefer over the 900 due to larger engine and also a big reason shaft drive. Not sure what a nearly new 1200 RP is there and wonder if you have test ridden one ?

I‘ve had my Tiger 850 Sport for nearly 3 years now and would dearly love to swap it for a 900 Rally Pro for all the reasons you mention (I too am 6‘2”tall and would like to have more leg room). My local Triumph dealer (in Switzerland) has a special edition Rally Aragon on sale at a knock down price, and as far as I can tell it is almost identical to the Rally Pro apart from added crash bars but no heated seats. I can‘t figure out why the dealer has been unable to shift either of the Aragon models he has in stock. Would you know anything about whether this special edition was somehow less desirable than a normal 900? Thanks.
I’m afraid the Aragons are now going cheap, because they’re the previous generation. None of the improvements of the facelifted bikes I’ve tested recently. This means 13hp less, smaller TFT screen, undamped bars, less comfortable seat… The money you save now, you’ll lose when you sell😬
Interesting feedback. You are second reviewer to say that the Rally Pro handles or feels better than the GT Pro.
Seat height is so crucial for handling. I'm only 5'9 and I still prefer to ride bikes with the seat in high position. Even if it means only one foot down when stationary.
Honda can keep their gold rims haha. I'm only a fan when they are a premium brand. It's a bit like painting non brembo brakes red. Just shouldn't be done.

Nice bike, shame about the stickers. Triumph seem to have surpassed themselves with the number of tank stickers on this one - why do they find it necessary to put far more infuriating stickers all over their tanks than any other manufacturer? Rant over, thanks for another great review.

After watching your GT review , I had a test ride and I agree with you the rally is comfier and has better suspension. The toggle switch is ridiculously close to the indicators, so I could only scroll up. That niggle aside I went for the rally pro, pick up in a couple of weeks 👍

just too expensive now for what they offer. basically 1200 gs money from 20 years ago, but with out the 1200 gs. just a 900 triumph... Is it good enough for the money? Personally no. Plus, I am pretty much done with the adventure bike segment. Way too expensive and to be honest the only real contender is the 1300 gs, love it or hate it (and if you can afford it) it really is the bench mark. and has been for over 25 years now...

@@RocketMan_Moto agreed. The gsa will be a better bike. It typically is. I had a 2013 gsa for 5 years. What a bike that was. But the gs of that time wasn’t even half the bike. It lacked the larger fly wheel, and some how that seemed to make a massive difference to the whole feel of the bike. I can’t be bothered to get on the bmw finance merry go round again. So, I just bought a ktm 890 smt, (this time I saved up and paid for it in 1 go. And that makes a massive amount of sense with a motor bike. Now I get to enjoy it guilt free.

Hi, I don't understand why you get more leg space while riding on the rally pro over the GT pro. It is the same bike, I can understand it when you are standing still, but not when you are riding as it is the same bike. The ground clearance is higher because of the dampers right? So if you have the seat in high position on both, the legroom should be the same when you ride it?
The pegs can be set lower with the higher suspension

Hello! Nice review, but "more comfort due to the higher seat" makes no sense for me. It's only taller because the whole bike is taller.The distance between the pegs and the seat should be exactly the same on both models.
The whole bike being taller makes it more comfortable for me

So can you honestly say the Tiger is better on road to flick through the corners than the Transalp? I find the Honda amazing in that category. I realise the Tiger suspension is far superior to the Honda.
Honestly... I don't care too much about handling on an adventure bike. I'm lucky in having more than one bike, and I will get the Speed Twin out if I want a blast in the hills :)
@@RocketMan_Moto Fair enough, but most of the Transalp owners such as myself, only have the one bike so it needs to be a do-it-all bike and the Honda still ranks highly in that category. And especially in value for the money.
Totally get that. Sorry, didn't want to come over all arrogant :) The Transalp is lighter and more flickable than the Tiger, but the Triumph is more comfortable and therefore gets my preference :)
This bike likes two things. It jumps on the road all the time. It loves drinking fuel.
It's less economoical than my Transalp, but way better than a Ducati. And I disagree completely about the 'jumping'. The suspension is excellent :)

Exactly. I'm always a bit wary of multi-brand dealers. If I have a problem with the Stelvio's shaft drive, for example, will a mechanic who's more used to servicing Vespas be up to the job?

I was told (by a dealer, so take it with a grain of salt) that you should buy the best you can afford at the time....buy once, buy right.
Marketing/sales hyperbole? Perhaps...But i was in the habit of buying below my budget and I was swapping bikes every year or so. So, i took the salesmans advice and bought the best bike I could afford (meaning no finance and no sacrifices from elsewhere in the budget) and ended up with an r1250gs. Its been a year and 4 months and I haven't looked at swapping bikes....yet. So maybe that salesman was right.

100% agree with this statement. Forever changing cars and bikes because I always settled. To be financially "sensible." But in reality, I was spending more by losing money on selling bikes I wasn't content with.

I agree, but tbf 'chopping and changing' has taught me a lot about bikes. When I first started, I knew next to nothing about them and bought myself a 2004 Triumph Daytona - nice to look at but a real pig to ride. Live and learn, I guess :)

Glad to see they changed the display graphics. I've grown accustomed to the one on my 2021, but my goodness....what were they thinking. I changed the handlebars to a set from a GT which have a tad more sweep (fortunately found them second hand and only cost me $90), and bought a set of SW-M ION pegs which are adjustable and dropped the peg height by almost an inch. This really opened up the cockpit for my 6'1" x 34" inseam frame. I came off ten years on GS and GSAs, and I had no issue at all with the feeling from the 21". The twitchy-ness can be "dialed down" by raising the front end with preload, and removing a bit from the rear. Amazing bike really, very happy with it.
Oh yes...after two years with it, I still find myself trying to select modes with the turn signal =P
PS: I consider that phone holder useless for storage, but that space makes for a great location for relays. Switched (only comes on when engine is running), powers relays controlling lights and GPS.

Do you feel a big difference between 19" and 21" ? I am used to riding a 19" cb500x, that's why I tend towards gt pro, v85tt, stelvio or suzuki 800re. I am 1,80. Cheers ✌️
Depends on the bike, tbh. The Rally Pro’s 21 feels like a 19, but the Transalp feels almost like a 17🤷♂️
