Rhythm Heaven Custom Remix: "Buttercup"
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- thanks to the incredible piece of software Rhythm Heaven Remix Editor for being a huge asset in creating the audio track for this video(and, made by the same person, Polyrhythm Mania, which allowed me to make that custom Polyrhythm section), and all the fine folks on Discord who helped me work out a few of the kinks.
some of you will know I have recently fallen in love with this series so when I saw how easy it was to compose in RHRE I just had to give it a spin and pay tribute to what are now surely some of my favorite games of all time.
I haven't played Megamix yet so I didn't use any minigames from there, and frankly I like the way Rhythm Heaven DS with the touch screen on the right looks better anyway; I decided to make this video like a triathlon remix featuring the original "trilogy" of games. sorry, some stuff like Moai Doo-Wop and Love Rap didn't really work out.
p.s. there is one pretty noticeable editing mistake in this that I was not able to sort out! see if you can spot it... there's a few other small things like the English text in Tengoku because I used Rhythm Heaven Silver, Space Soccer never feeling quite right no matter how much I fiddled with the timing, and Lockstep missing the offbeat snare drum sound effect right before it transisions to Love Lab (it just didn't sound right with the snare in there).

The “I don’t know what this rhythm game is” to “I make custom remixes in my free time” pipeline is a dangerous but common one
It’s not a story the Jedi would tell you..

ok as a huge rhythm heaven fan, how do I make one of these-- is it all just video editing and scrubbing the music out so it's just the SFX?

this feels like a random compilation of events across the multiverse with the through-line being that everyone is just having a good time, experiencing a random moment of joy in their day to day life.

Reading this comment… made me smile… thank you.
it also feels kinda like revisiting an old album of photos or a galery of old videos remmbering good moments

Everything is alright at least once in a while
i love how if you try to "play" these, theres some inputs that carry over to other songs, i remember gray getting excited over that in a remix from the DS game. wholesome.
Yeah that's really satisfying
might've been remix 6 if you mean the space soccer to lockstep transitions
@@DespOIcito They might mean remix 10, with the lockstep head in the shoot-em-up section
The pipeline of "I watched Jerma play this" to "no I don't think I'm gonna go for all perfects" to "I got most perfects in the games" to "I made a custom remix 3 months after playing my first game" is a scary and groovy pipeline

@@scarymath6666 The pipeline of “Jerma’s playing my favorite game, maybe I’ll watch it” to “hey, this guys pretty funny” to “wow, maybe I should check out his other stuff” to “THIS GUY IS FUCKED, HE ZERKED IN THE BOX” is a scary and hilarious pipeline

1:19 this. god, this was the best part. frog hop couldn't be in a better section of the song. the sheer ambience made me smile.
fucking perfection, man.
Going full circle from Tengoku's Samurai Slice to Fever's was a nice touch 👌.
This feels like one of the only remixes I've seen that really understands how it might be played. There's no moments where the inputs would come out of nowhere or overlap awkwardly, it all works together to keep the beat going and even has fun moments where it preps your input for one game and then flips to another, or keeps your stylus held for the chorus kids sections. It's masterfully done and it's from Grayfruit himself! I love it, and it feels like a remix that could actually be played and feel smooth to play too.
1:34
This is probably my favorite part; just the simple piano melody leading into the main chorus is enough to satisfy my monkey brain. Also not to mention it's one of my favorite mini-games.
AND the fillbots section immediately after goes super well with the music
Everything here just fits like a glove
dude. ok. a friend of mine sent a twitter preview of this to me and i freaked out because my favorite funny streamer man made a little custom remix of one of my favorite songs of all time from one of my favorite artists of all time - and it brought me an unimaginable amount of glee to see this show up in my recommended just now. the fruit and jack stauber are genuinely and honestly a couple of my biggest comforts ever, and to top it all off with a sweet and charming trilogy of rhythm heaven on top of it just sealed it. the kind of genuineness that stems from this man... his humor, his wit, his game interests, like, i cannot recommend another streamer who critically resonates with me in this way. of course there's influences, but grayfruit just has always hit it out of the park for me. i still believe he is so critically underrated in terms of attention for the quality that he gives out. i lose track of time, but i've probably been watching his content for over two and a half years now and he's one of the only video game people i still always stop for to catch a highlight video. i guess what i'm trying to say is that grayfruit has carried me a lot over that span of time, and this particular video just carried me over the edge to gush about it all. i really hold this kind of stuff in really high regard, so... yeah. thank you, mr fruit. you made my absolute day with this, and i'm certain that there's a lot of other people who think similarly.
i fully agree
What an amazing gush it is!
1:15 Intentional or not, I love how the "Ow!" from the song is synced with the blue DJ whacking his hand across the yellow DJ
pretty sure it's "pow" and they're just gesturing emphatically

The Choir Trio screaming along with "Golden tooth" was godlike
That was amazing. The best part has to be the harmonizing at 1:26, I have difficulty believing that wasn't designed specifically for this video.
I liked that one, I felt like it could have used 2 more notes and it would be perfect but there's no problem in singing along. I love this remix all the same
i know right
Ur smash montages are what introduced me to a lot of artists I like (Neil ciceriga, kkb, and skylar spence) so I’m glad you’re still supplying groovy beats to the masses grayman
I can’t tell you how many songs I’ve added to my playlists because of grayfruit’s overtures. He has some great taste in music, along with Lark.
@@2scoopsrice523 same.
Lark got me into Liturgy (from a Harry Potter stream edit vid)
Great work, it flows really nicely and it's fun to see a custom remix once in a while that uses a lot of games instead of a small selection
I actually used to do that a ton on my old channel, but I got a lot of feedback that didn't like that, and prefered the smaller selection
Real quick I just want to say I come back to this video whenever I start to have panic attacks and it helps me ground myself and calm down a lot. Just how everything is perfectly on beat makes everything feel like it’ll fall into place in due time, it’s something I can concentrate on fully. I can’t listen to the original song because it doesn’t have the same effect, so yeah this video is awesome
Just an absolute masterpiece. I hope this is just the beginning.
see, this guy gets the relationship between the rhythm games and the rhythm of the song; the way cues are lined up with the beats of the music is just lovely, and feels straight outta rhythm heaven
2:15 this section is so good for some reason that I want an entire remix just with this! Why? Wtf
An incredibly unexpected type of content but a welcome one. It's wonderful to see someone get so into a series that they make something like this.
0:48's transition from rap men to space soccer is really well down. great remix
After watching this for like the 4th time ive now noticed the natural progression through the games you made, gotta say i love this remix
I like it how it goes through the games from old to new instead of being all random
*Thoughts from a custom remix peruse-r*
Great use of various minigames!
It was fun to 'play' along with the video.
Remember to include count-ins for games like Flock Step, though. "3, 4!"
*Superb!*
Didn’t expect this but I am nonetheless happy.
Fantastic custom, you have great potential as a custom remixer!
I only watched part of this when the video first released. but now I've seen it fully about six times. kinda grew on me
I think Grayfruit would absolutely adore Rhythm Doctor, it's being made with Rhythm Heaven as its biggest inspiration
Agreed 100%! Rhythm doctor, as simple as it seems, has become my absolute favorite rhythm game.
1:50 such a rad transition
2:30 This is the most grayfruit move I can think of, making the first frame of a transition that mile-wide pig smile
This had me smiling and bopping my head the whole time, like it was my first time playing RH again. Amazing work and uniquely you. Thank you for this
These multiple harmonies, just released all the serotonin possible
The thing that is super satisfying about this remix, is I've seen a couple which are like "Wow, groovy! But there's no way a human being could play this."
But snapping my fingers along to the inputs, Grayman always makes the inputs flow good. Pool girls into choir boys is just one example. Monkey feet into Side runner into bunny hop into worker's march is another great moment.
listening to this mix was the first time I'd heard this song, and I never played a rhythm heaven game, just watched your streams, but for whatever reason this video is one I come back to all the time if I need a little boost. comfortingly compelling!
This made me tingle in ways I've never felt before, it's a true masterpiece.
yo i saw you messing around with this on twitter, actually stupidly satisfying 😌🙏
1:35 just hits different holy shit Mr.Fruit, anything you make I'll look forward to it man cause so far everything has been crazy, keep it up
this gives me a vibe that no other video has been able to do in months
2:24
walkin moment
I just wanted to say that I really love all of your Rhythm Heaven content a ton. I've always thought the games were neat, but never paid too close attention until your streams. You encouraged me to obtain my own totally legal copies of the games and slowly work my way through, and I'm having a blast. Thanks for all the good vibes and great laughs : )
It looks like we’re mixing things up for a journey down memory lane! Time to hop through the generations! (and no practice for you.)
Love the stuff! Keep it up buddy!
There’s something strangely wholesome about this. Just a bunch of people jammin
THE GAME CHOICES WERE SO GOOD. THIS GAVE ME THE “OHMYGODOHMYGODTHISISSOGOOD” FEELING IN MY CHEST AND IM SO HERE FOR IT
I still cant tell if that's Grayfruit just saying "Oh yeah~" at 0:05
This is honestly one of the best custom remixes I’ve ever seen; it’s crazy impressive that this is your first one.
This is legitimately really good
The parts with just the "marching" type games felt sooo chill... loved the vibes!
In. Credible. The footstep compilation at the end was perfect, as was every other part of the remix. Keep em coming!
The diversity of the minigames makes this remix so much better
I don't know why, but this mix makes me tear-up everytime I listen to it. The original song doesn't do that for me. Gray really hit it with this one.
i was not expecting to be made incredibly happy today! what a wonderful surprise.
너무 좋네요 계속 와서 듣고 있어요!!
finally the full version i’ve been waiting for this
The vibes I’m getting from this video is crazy!
I’m guessing the “mistake” you mentioned is the sudden cut-in to rhythm rally with no cue, this is still groovy as hell though.
The true final remix.
This was so calming
The cut to the calm rain of the ghost minigame without any ghosts at the end was a bit surprising, but I really loved it. It lined up perfectly with the calmer ending of the song, and gave me chills a bit.
An amazing start as a custom remixer, you have lots of potential and I hope you do more of these!
Videos like this is why I love your channel so much. You just never know when a banger like this will pop out of the already banger stream edits.
This is legitimately the last thing I would expect you to post, but I'm not complaining
The transition in 1:47 from munchy monk to rhythm rally is absolutely brutal
ya that was a mistake ^^; I somehow didnt notice that for like months after posting this lol
Yo this is insane, it's super inspiring to see someone get into this series so quickly and easily, and then NAIL their first ever custom remix from being so inspired. Awesome work here dude, that tap trial part is nice every time
I watched this on a whim and was fucking blown away when I looked down a bit and saw that it was made by my main man greyfruit. Does this greyscaled eggplant's talent ever stop?
I really enjoy how the remix slowly processes from old rhythm heaven to new rhythm heaven
Never would've expected this. Gold.
for a first custom remix this nails it, super impressive to see you do something so good out of left field and whether this is a once-off or just the beginning i really like it
I’m powerless to stop myself from clicking on this video every time it shows up in my recommended. UA-cam is fully aware of this and has started recommending it frequently
this is a certified hood classic already
This is really well thought out. Loved how you started with Rhythm Tengoku and moved your way through the trilogy, and you really hit it out of the park!
Lovely tribute to such a lovely franchise. Praying for a true remaster of the core 3 games on Switch since I never liked megamix :/
It makes me so happy to see the continued appreciation of rhythm tengoku... this game defined the summer of 06 for me, I downloaded the Japanese rom after reading about it in an IGN article and spent hours playing this with my friends... I remember considering playing this on stage for a talent show but was worried everyone would think it was lame, in hindsight I should have haha
The fruits decent into rhythm hell after he unknowingly fell head deep into the fandom has been a journey on par with the Devine Comedy. This is only the inferno, the rest is yet to unfold.
You make cool comments mister cannon man.
@@Wyrm3 Much obliged mister/misses/indeterminate Destroyer of Things. I really do appreciate the kind words.
Holy shit, this is an AMAZING first custom remix. Especially for someone that only recently got into the series!
This is honestly such a bop. Each game fits and transitions so well into the next and matches the song perfectly. Excellent job!
been here since like 2017, and seeing gray go from editing fighting gameplay perfectly to snazzy music, to editing rhythm gameplay perfectly to snazzy music has been fun
Rhythm heaven it's one of that games of my childhood that awake on me so mutch memories, but this remix, give them a more powerfull nostalgic vibe to me
The sync on the ghost is godlike. Also really like the Rhythm Heaven DS inspired transitions.
i appreciate the linear progression from tengoku to DS to fever, this is definitely something you did with a huge grinch smile because of how smooth it is
This really electrifies my golden tooth.
holy SHIT
i was actually imagining the start of that as a rh custom!
welcome to the house of fun, my paesano
reminds me of my style of "use whatever the fuck you want but keep certain games recurring" too!
This is such a good song for this game. It's got that constant simple metronome beat pounding throughout the song, while the vocals and guitar noodle all over the place to allow for a diverse blend of rhythms while keeping a constant beat
i've watched this many times and only just now have i noticed that the last target at 0:59 is the face of the lockstep characters. i don't kinow if this is just something that the game did but great attention to detail.
I know this is late, but the game did indeed do this in one of the remixes!
jack stauber rhythm heaven is content i will fucking die for more of
Idk why but this video feels nostalgic
Based game, based song, based video. I give this a based/10.
this is a solid first custom remix! it looks like it'd genuinely be a lot of fun to play, and it doesn't veer into "too hard" territory the way a lot of custom remixes tend to. looking forward to the next one!
i saw this on twitter and could not stop watching it, absolutely amazing custom remix! well done : )
Oh shit I love that Rap Men Clappy Trio bit. Genius
Far and away my favorite part of this is the last note, where the samurai's yell gets compressed and isolated to match the song. Love that shit.
1:14 is absolute gold
ok but the built to scale moment actually electrified my heart
This is the type of music you can just get lost in with thought, if that makes sense
lovin this new rhythm heaven era of grayfruit so far
Can't stop watching this. It's the first custom remix I've ever seen, and it sent me down a rabbit hole. Now that I've seen plenty more, this is still the best. Well done gray guy
