For real...if the game was released now, even if it had the issues it had on release but Evolution managed to workaround and fix it (Without Sony closing the studio) it would be a hell of a game. Driveclub is the game that made me come to terms that not every arcade-ish racing game needs to be open world as long as it has some interesting circuits to race on...this game is the single reason i still not sold my PS4...
To me this is still the best sounding Racing game out there. Really sad to see it die. Imagine driveclub 2 on next gen consoles on 4K 60 with ray tracing. Bring back polyphony digital.
Timing is important. Enthusia was released like 3 months after Gran Turismo 4, so it completely went under the radar. Even if you play it today with a wheel, the physics doesn't feel outdated compared to many game since.
I partially agree. As I play this game today. I actually feel that Driveclub released 7 years too early. Look at this dreary heartless spill of racing games we've had over the past couple years. Or really lack there of. Driveclub would've killed it in todays market had it actually come out now instead of 2014.
DriveClub is perfect. At the time he was criticized because he was not noob friendly like Forza Horizon. I played all the DLCs and the bikes mode. One of the best PS4 games.
I've seen footage of Driveclub on YT, and it absolutely blew me away! I love all the locations, as well as some obscure cars not seen in other big racing games!
DriveClub was amazing! And as you mentioned, the weather effects were visually incredible, and I daresay they still are. It's truly a shame that we lost Evolution Studios, too. Their WRC games back on PS2 were really good, and the MotorStorm games on PS3 were alot of fun as well. I played DriveClub VR as well, and really liked that too...
This game came with my PS4 back in 2014 and I went from a PS2 straight to the PS4 and this game greatly influenced me! The sound design is godly, the weather simulation is fantastic and the graphics are outstanding! I’ve always wanted a sequel! After understanding Evolution Studios I’m not surprised why this game is great, I’m currently enjoying Motorstorm which is fantastic but it released in a time that was too ambitious. If motorstorm released this year on PS5 it would be crazy to witness! It’s a shame Sony closes down great studios, just like Japan Studio.
Driveclub is literally one of my favorite games of all time, it's like the game was literally made for me with the atmosphere, cars, graphics, weather effects and the soundtrack+ presentation!
Bought it second hand after buying a PS4 in 2015, for only 10 euro then. First owner was already done with it, while there were many updates to come after. Was an amazing looking game, and drove challenging.
I make comparison of Driveclub and PGR4 for years now. Same exact kind of racing game ( kinda like simmilarity between GT on PS and FM on Xbox), both were years ahead in terms of graphics (PGR4 is still really good looking, especialy lighting, and locales, and Driveclub is simply still THE best looking racing game), very simmilar physics - arcade but with clear rules of braking, and predictable, natural car behaviour. Both had amazing, immersive cockpit view (only beaten by NFS Shift/Shift 2). Both had simmilar campaign structure. Both had awesome weather system. Both are legendary. (i choose PGR4 in particular because of the quality leap, i might consider PGR2 but it wouldn't be cosidered good looking xbox 360 racer while PGR 4 would be still a decent looking Xbox One game, but even visualy parts of PGR2 really look amazing and at times indeed they look like 360 game) EDiT: Enthusia is by far my biggest contender for the second place as my favourite racing game of all time (my favourite game overall is Gran Turismo 2). For me when it comes to pleasure and natural feel of driving, Enthusia is still just incredible. I've spent last 10 years of virtual racing mostly doing time trials, mostly on nurgburing, on every game i could get my hands on, and nothing beats immersion of Enthusia. I can spent hours just doing laps after laps there.
For Me Personally, the game which i really like in teen age, was a game , that almost nobody Knew. Yes, the franchise is very famous, much like NFS, but particularly this game- very tiny group of people knew existed and who remember it and plays it till nowadays. I'm talking about TEST Drive:Overdrive.
I used to love just jumping into PGR4 driving around in London or Tokyo, that’s why I bought Driveclub. It has the same feeling and brought back some nostalgia
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who compares driveclub to pgr4. Even though I wanted to play pgr4 so much, I could never play it. It's a shame that driveclub had the same fate.
Both games were ahead of their times. Honestly I wish both would come back and I agree. Driveclub making a return keeping it structure but opening up a few things like giving a free roam or Tourer mode would be interesting. It’ll put it to compete with test drive and nfs. However, if enthusia came back it’ll shake up a lot. Awesome coverage !!
Drive club was amazing as was project Gotham racing 4, the graphics on pgr 4 blew me away, I hammered it with mates online lobby’s into the early hours of the morning many times, and even called in sick at work to play it all day, great times
Drive club was a stunning racing game in my eyes, sounded great, graphics were right up there.Didn’t have it at launch, think i bought it in the ps store on sale then ended up buying all the dlc’s & the bike dlc as well. Some of the online racing was pretty good too if you had some friends on with you.Such a shame it died, i’ve loved Gran Turismo since the 1st one but Drive Club offered something different definitely,it held my attention for quite a period of time.
I still play it from time to time post-server shut down and I'm lucky to have the foresight to get the bikes DLC since it is a lot of fun. Like you, and probably most people, I got into the game a year after release when they launch what is practically a demo of the game, the Driveclub PS+ Edition. At first I just marvel at it's technical achievements, the rain in cockpit view and the pitch black night in a snowstorm are a sight to behold (haven't been topped by any racing games to date imo), however slowly but surely I fall in love with the gameplay and eventually I bought the whole game, even went through the effort of getting the platinum trophy of which I rarely cares about.
I bought Driveclub on release and was totally blown away by the sound and graphics. It reminded me of the first Project Cars. True, there was some initial problems, but the studio patched the quickly. Subsequently, I bought all the DLCs, then I purchased the digital version of the game. Looking at this retrospective, I may re-download o to my PS5 and give it a run for old times sake. I still have the original disk as well. Maybe I can get a few bucks for it? 🤔🤣
Never had the chance to play DriveClub. I'm very interested in the bikes' aspect, since it would have been an alternative to a Tourist Trophy sequel... that never came out. A scond game could also be a viable alternative for those of us who don't want to spend a single cent nor a second in GT7.
I kept seeing this game at Wal-Mart but I never picked up, it's the same thing with GT 3 and 4, seven years too late that means Drvieclub would have been for PS3 if it was back in 2007 (I think ?)
Its online issues at launch, wich occured for months , killed the game. I remember PlayStation Staff being embarrassed in itw with those issues. I think the studio signed its death at this moment . What a pity cause the game was impressive and fun . Only the 30fps really annoyed me.
I wonder if people have tried ripping models out this game for usage in Assetto Corsa, like the cars but especially the tracks, it had some really good tracks
@@josephmachado6081 im aware, but if im not mistaken i had once come across a car mod that sourced its model from gran turismo sport, which gives me hope lol
Driveclub is an interesting one from the way that I see it. There's a lot things that I like about it, but at the same I just can't ignore the bad things that the game had when it came out. Because of the way, the online was made for that game, it feels like this was a future blueprint for GT Sport. It's just that Sony is trying too hard at making a good racing game with good online because Forza has pioneered the online being in racing games. As of Driveclub itself, it's a good game with an interesting car list(like I'll give credit for having cars from Asphalt 8 into a console game), but it's game design feels dated and the bots always hitting your car and trying get you a corner penalty.
I'm so fucking sad I just discovered this game about 2 weeks ago and just got my hands-on a physical copy to play it, I wish I had bought the season pass before it had delisted.
You have to be realistic about what happened here. Sony were never serious about DriveClub. Their golden child is always Gran Turismo. And the same way Microsoft were never that serious about Gotham... while Forza was still on the back burner.... once Forza reached prime time they were ready to ditch Gotham ASAP... along with Bizarre.. I think most people who had DriveClub knew this... Gotham was way less obvious because for some reason Forza 2/3 was strangely not as prominent until Forza 4 and that really drive the nail into anything Gotham. I think there seems to be not enough room for that many 'drive sims' and even simcade lites like DriveClub. The producer of DriveClub went onto absolutely bomb w/ Onrush...
7? Make it 9, even 10. The moment NFSU2 came out, arcade racers progressively moved on to open world. Evolution Studios didn't and was left behind. Even then, what hurt DriveClub was not so much the game, but the lack of content and the online issues. It had little more than 100 cars at launch. Less than TDU2.
I always saw this game as an uninspiring clone of NFS/other famous arcade racers. I was focused on bodywork mods back in the days, this probably killed my interest in it. Also I never gave a f0k about online racing + still counted for Gran Turismo's redemption (which ended sadly).
Overall it was an alright game with some exceptional qualities. Definitely not at the level of a top arcade racer like Burnout, original GRID, Project Gotham Racing imo. The real tragedy was the loss of a good studio.
I really don't like Driveclub. I wanted to like it, but gameplay let me down. Still played that couple years on occasionally. It was good try and at least it got some fans.

This is the best racing game ever. Game was perfect

Man that intro gave me a lot of nostalgia to when I was in year 9. I'm now going into the final year of uni, mad.
I remember Drive club was the game that made me buy a ps4 after so many years. I loved it, warts and all. A shame we mightn’t see another
Closing down evolution studios is one of the biggest mistakes of Sony

The fidelity and immersion and feel of the cars and the especially when driving in the wet was next level when it came out and to some degree still is
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who compares driveclub to pgr4. Even though I wanted to play pgr4 so much, I could never play it. It's a shame that driveclub had the same fate.
I would kill for a 60 fps patch for PS5. (yeah, I know it'll never happen)
One of few good choices of my nearly four decades on earth was buying the game and all its dlc
Both games were ahead of their times. Honestly I wish both would come back and I agree. Drive club bikes was cold as fuck to.

Test drive pgr and driver club are masterpieces
I’m nvr getting rid of my copy of DriveClub I love the game too much

If this game had more events then I would've played it way more than I have so far. That being said I never had the chance to get the dlc.
I wonder if people have tried ripping models out this game for usage in Assetto Corsa, like the cars but especially the tracks, it had some really good tracks
its a lot harder to because its only ps4
@@josephmachado6081 im aware, but if im not mistaken i had once come across a car mod that sourced its model from gran turismo sport, which gives me hope lol
Great game I have platinum really great over shadowed problem about the game I was disappointed as there wasn't any Licence real world circuits

I like this one
Thanks b, thought you would x
Put nearly 900hrs into this on PS4, went back to it on PS5 and i was terrible.. 😐

similar situation to cyberpunk, released too early
And Project Gotham Racing 4 is perfect too
Overall it was an alright game with some exceptional qualities.

*Unlike Gran Turismo Driveclub had Koenigseggs , Mazzantis...* ❗❗❗❗
Wrong timing for this game got released 😢
I really don't like Driveclub. I wanted to like it, but gameplay let me down. Still played that couple years on occasionally. It was good try and at least it got some fans.
😅
A 30fps racing game. Wow wonder why it failed. Tried it recently because of good reviews , feels awful and sluggish
