VP follows the original arrangement very closely. Metallica's song starts out slowly with guitar and voice, slowly builds up to the lead guitar, then quiets again. So glad you reacted to this! So many reviewers have been blown away by the arrangement and performance.
Great reaction, I sure hope you do more Voiceplay, they are the best. In my opinion, of course, but I'm always right. Suggestions: Go The Distance - featured E J Cardona, same artist as in I Can't Make You Love Me Bang! - featured Deejay Young, same artist as in Christmas Don't Be Late Carry On Wayward Son - featured Omar Cardona (E J's brother) same artist as in The Dragonborn Comes
Honestly, the first time I heard this one I wasn’t totally sure what I thought of it, but it’s grown into probably my favorite musical arrangement they’ve ever done. Like there’s other videos of theirs that I like just as well for different reasons, but if I were to go solely on the music and how it makes me feel…this one is incredible. Mesmerizing, every time.
Great reaction! If you've never heard the original song, it is most definitely worth giving a listen. This cover is very faithful to it in many respects, but each version is its own unique and sublime experience.
On VoicePlay & PattyCake Productions Patreon you can get your very own VIOLAYNE T-Shirt available for Patrons only. Thank Geoff for this amazing arrangement and #VIOLAYNE.
I really enjoyed your reaction. Because you weren’t familiar with the song, you appreciated it on its own without comparing to the original, which was refreshing. Some commenters, and a reactor or two, have criticized because it “didn’t sound the same”. But I think of it not as a Metallica cover, but a cover of the song, which was made famous by Metallica. This captures the spirit of the song without trying to imitate the original. Not that the other reactors who know the piece weren’t also really good, but you brought in a new perspective. I had to go out to listen to the original because I don’t really like metal. It is worth checking out simply because it is a great song, but it won’t hit my playlist. But this (and a few instrumental versions) will. For an excellent example of their singing, without any theatrics, you might check out their cover of Tennessee Whiskey, or True Colors, where Layne doesn’t beatbox at all.
Their next video is similar to this one but different song and different guest singer. It is awesome. It's on Patreon right now. Don't know yet when they're going to release it to UA-cam. Great reaction Salvo ❤️
Great reaction- thanks! If you enjoyed the "Violayne" here you would love Voice Plays cover of "Warriors". In "Warriors, both J None and Layne play violins and Layne really shreds the violin while beatboxing in that one.
Glad you liked it! It's one of their top ten, I think. If you want more of VioLayne, check out "Warriors" from when Earl was still part of the group. There's another little surprise in there too!
Sorry I don't remember, but if you haven't done Tennessee Whiskey, it might be perfect. Gorgeous voices and arrangement, without much "theater" (But of course, it's VP, and Eli did the vid, so each view of them is absolutely gorgeous and looks like a renaissance painting)
Thank you for a great reaction to Voice Play. You will love Voice Plays cover songs ...Eleanor Rigby... Mr. Blue Sky.. & Stay With Me.. originally by Sam Smith. Voice Play knocks these out of the ball park.
I don't think they have albums but all their songs are available for download so you could just put them into a Playlist and create your own VP album lol. Also definitely check out the original song. It's a masterpiece.
Yeah, I’d be curious to hear what they planned on (because I have read that the original plan was to reproduce the iconic guitar solo vocally as well). I’m sure it would’ve been amazing. But the violin solo-damn. The visible confidence and pleasure Layne takes in playing it, and the surprise of it, and it’s so well played. Damn…. Hmmm. I guess it depends. Do you want to hear more straight-up music without the cosplay? Carry On Wayward Son is another awesome piece. Do you want to hear the one and only other song where Layne plays violin (and so does J.None)? Warriors-a bit of cosplay there but not as theatrical as, say, The Dragonborn Comes. Do you want to see some really goofy fun? Little Mermaid Medley, or We Don’t Talk About Bruno. And OMG, if you haven’t checked out In The Hall of the Mountain King, you really have to. Or go to their shorts channel and pick two or three. Whatever you do you’re going to have fun! Looking forward, cuz this was a great reaction!
After watching you react to a Journey live concert instead of an album, I'm ready to watch you reaction to Voiceplay live. I don't even think they do anything but UA-cam.
They did do a couple of CDs, but they’re very old. One was a holiday album, one was called Collide and it was all songs with guests, and there was one that was all Disney. But they’re on Spotify and you can get the MP3’s on iTunes. Or…do what I did. Join their Patreon and get ALL the MP3’s free. 😁 I’m going off break now and don’t have time to review what you’ve already done but if you want to see the orig members in action (at least as far back as is on UA-cam), then you want “I Love Me”, “Cheerleader”, “Grim Grinning Ghosts” (which is the theme to the Haunted Mansion ride in Disney Orlando) and of course, their version of Phantom of the Opera. You’ll be able to tell they are old vids both in the production value and because Geoff has short hair. 😂 Later vids I consider must sees are “Queen in Five Minutes”, “Boy Bands In Five Minutes”, “Tennessee Whiskey” and “Hoist The Colors”. And I don’t know if you know about Geoff’s solo stuff? My faves there are “House of the Rising Sun”, Ain’t No Sunshine”, and “Ghost Riders In The Sky”.
They do have a few albums I used to see them when I was working my way through 800 and some odd videos.. Metallica had a guitar solo in where the violin or should I say VioLayne came it. Geoff had arranged for the guitar and as it to be show time he wanted Layne to do his violin for this and boy, did it work. If you haven't seen Warriors from 3 yrs ago, Layne plays the violin and beatboxes, J None plays a few lines with his violin. It is one of my favorites. Last year they did Dream On (which Geoff labeled Warriors 2).
They went by the group name 4:2: Five in their very early days. Time Machine was issued in 1997. Geoff would have been 17 and Layne’s (and presumably Earl ) would have been 18. They were good then but they have certainly stepped up.
Since you like Disney: VoicePlay's Little Mermaid and Moana medleys are awesome (Geoff blew me away as Ursula). They also did Frozen II (I still need to see the movie) and "Go the Distance" from Hercules. 6 years ago they did "Grim Grinning Ghosts" which is another bass feature and was one of their first dips into serious makeup and theatrics. All the "Nightmare Before Christmas" songs are awesome for October. Non-Disney - Warriors for more "VioLayne" music, "Boy Bands in 5 minutes" is hilarious and appeals to all generations, and "Queen in 5 Minutes" is so well arranged, telling a good story through the music, which gets a massive kick up if you know a bit about mythology. (It's okay if you don't know who the deities are though.)
Honestly you could pick a VoicePlay song at random and be blown away. They do such a massive variety of genres that anyone and everyone can easily pick a bunch of favorites. Eleanor Rigby, Kiss, Carry On My Wayward Son, We Don't Talk About Bruno, Queen Medley, Billie Eilish in 5 minutes, and Tennessee Whiskey are some of my faves.
And VioLayne and Voiceplay breaks another reactor. Albums.. Yes. Several can be bought on Voiceplay merch store and on Amazon. J Noneb( like none other). His actual last name is Nunn. J is the initial of his first name. He hates it so just goes by J. He was a member from 2018 - 2021. He left to sing with the US Navy. He is with the Northwest Passage Naval Band in Washington. He has 3½ years left. Hopefully he returns to Voiceplay. Until then he collaborates with them both in video (phone) from Washington and in person when he's on leave. I have several videos of him on my playlist he has done since the Navy. Feel free to check out any video on there. All are public and from the artist channel. If you want to widen your horizons... Pattycake Productions, owned by Layne and Tony Wakim (former member) has many awesome videos as well. All the songs are original to Pattycake. But are Disney character based. My favorite is The Villains Lair series. Where else can you get the Disney villains together in one room? And live. Not animated. They just released season 2 episode 4 That's All. A couple months ago. Another favorite is The Villains Haunted Mansion. Bump In The Night - is A Thriller parody. And many many more. Great reaction Salvo btw. Love ya ❤
I also hadn't heard the Metallica original, and it really doesn't matter! Some of my VP favourites I don't think you've done yet: Oogie Boogie _(really_ not done this?!), Queen in 5 Minutes (gets the heartstrings), Daddy Sang Bass (so wholesome), We Don't Talk About Bruno (just fun), Hoist the Colours (pirates!), Dream On (epic)...
One question? Why nothing about Barry White? Since his death in 2003, his voice has barely been heard. Why? Known for his distinctive bass-baritone voice. Prodigal singer, songwriter and producer of rhythm and blues and soul music. Is there any embarrassment in having admired such a voice that will never return? I'm a new subscriber and I will wait if sometimes...
To Go back to the begining with disney they did beautyfull covers of the Little mermaid, oogie boogie, ect. … but the Cover of Queen is perfect and funny
I really don't get under what rock one have to live to never hear "Nothing else matters? Especially if one wants to make money reacting to and talking about music. It would be proffesional to at least watch it before reacting to a cover. Takes 6 minutes.
I guess I have always lived under a rock by your standards. I missed the whole metal era since I was a struggling single mom and didn’t really have time to get into bands.
I'm 100% sure I couldn't tell you who 98% of the top100 are if you played them for me. Does it mean I live under a rock? No. It means I haven't listened to them before. Not everyone listens to a ton of music in their spare time, and some people even shy away from the 'popular' bands in a genre. You're the one living under a rock if you think every person in the world listens to Metallica.
Nobody expects the VioLayne! Nobody!
VP follows the original arrangement very closely. Metallica's song starts out slowly with guitar and voice, slowly builds up to the lead guitar, then quiets again. So glad you reacted to this! So many reviewers have been blown away by the arrangement and performance.
Their “True Colours” is incredibly beautiful!!
That is a BEAUTIFUL song!!
Check out their video the" Warriors"

There were many reactors that were broken when Layne started playing the violin. Your reaction to that moment was pretty good too.
This is one of my favorite Metallica songs and totally accessible to non-metal people. Please play the official Metallica video
Loved your reaction! It’s amazing what they can do isn’t it? 😊
you stepped back to double check the sound layne made during the violin part. he does the same effect in their cover of enemy
Great reaction! If you've never heard the original song, it is most definitely worth giving a listen. This cover is very faithful to it in many respects, but each version is its own unique and sublime experience.
That bass is not human!! lol Amazing cover!

I heard VP's "Dream On" and it is excellent! Brings be back to H.S., listening to Aerosmith on my 8 track.
Their next video is similar to this one but different song and different guest singer. It is awesome. It's on Patreon right now. Don't know yet when they're going to release it to UA-cam.

that’s Violayne! ❤🏴
I recommend Bang. Or Tennessee Whiskey.

Thank you for the reaction, watching reactions to this cover has been a blast. I just love watching reactors left speechless. :)
Thank you for a great reaction to Voice Play. You will love Voice Plays cover songs ...Eleanor Rigby... Mr. Blue Sky.. & Stay With Me.. originally by Sam Smith. Voice Play knocks these out of the ball park.
Voiceplay likes to do big finishes, they definitely did not disappoint on this one.
I do think this one is my new favorite. If you'll react to them, I'll be here.❤
I don't think they have albums but all their songs are available for download so you could just put them into a Playlist and create your own VP album lol. Also definitely check out the original song. It's a masterpiece.

I'd recommend carry on wayward son and dream on if you haven't already listened to them by voiceplay. Also, Hoist the Colours is another amazing one.

Very nice reaction. I am hoping you could check out Beast in black: Ghost in the rain or sweet true lies. Keep up the good work

You should check out Geoff Castellucci’s video of “Sixteen Tons” it’s amazing!!
Will there be more Dimash reactions?
Great music get covered. And in this case VERY well. Metallica ain't bad either, LOL.
I really don't get under what rock one have to live to never hear "Nothing else matters?
Especially if one wants to make money reacting to and talking about music. It would be proffesional to at least watch it before reacting to a cover. Takes 6 minutes.
That was kind of cruel to put it that way. Many other reactors don't listen to the original first.
I guess I have always lived under a rock by your standards. I missed the whole metal era since I was a struggling single mom and didn’t really have time to get into bands.

Nice but it will never match the original. Give it a listen.
