This is a refreshing view of Commodore Tarriela, usually in news interviews he would seem to hold back on his statements. But in this interview I can clearly see the difference between answering a set of questions designated for the masses; and answering a question designated for peole that is well immersed into this WPS issue topic such as myself. I've been following this issue since 2012 and this interview somewhat satisfied my concerns over the management of this issue. Glad to hear the "adamic hat" verion of PCG spokesman for the WPS! Excellent job sir. It gives such deeper insight on the issue.

Sir commodore, conversion of Offshore Supply Vessels into PCG ships would probably save the PCG a lot of money and a lot of time. This probably would accelerate the acquisition of PCG vessels by the dozens annually (obviously exaggerated but the idea is more than 1 per year).
I 🙏🏻 hope that this voice of a true patriot (Commodore T.) cause a tsunami in the conscience of the so called top brass of our AFP and PCG- who are first and foremost a public servant whose sworn duty/allegiance is to defend our country against all enemy foreign and domestic!

China is among the first countries who signed the UNCLOS in 1982 and ratified it in 1994. But now China refuses to follow the rules based order of UNCLOS and rejects the arbitral court's' ruling, to claim sovereignty on the WPS and the south china sea, Even as the Philippines DFA continue talks with China, To deter/counter China's expansionism in Philippine EEZ, The PCG and USCG continue joint patrol of the WPS, the Scarborough, Ayungin, and Escoda shoals. US Japan deploy troops, missiles and Typhon launchers systems, thru EDCA and RAA. The philippines boost defense capability faster, have more ships, aircrafts, anti-ship missiles and anti-ship drones.
I humbly suggest our Phil coast guard and Phil Navy should acquire Australian paper drone technology and they can swarm our West Phil Sea w/ drones to deter aggressors. Not only these drones are functional but cheap. Now, Ukraine is using these drones effectively for surveillance, attack and detterence. A $400 dollar drone could destroy a $1M tank or $100M ship of Russia.
Eight PCG personnel were convicted of homicide for the killing of a Taiwanese fisherman in May 2013. In that incident, a PCG patrol boat opened fire on a Taiwanese fishing vessel in an area where our economic zones overlap with that of Taiwan, 180 nautical miles southeast of Taiwans's Cape Eluanbi. I wonder whether the PCG install water cannon in their patrol boats. It is safer to use rather than firing bullets.
I think it's more important to focus on how the Chinese ship cutoff the American ship in the south China sea 3-4 weeks ago. The Philippines should really think about China. The water cannon is a nice gesture to the Philippines by China.

We should also deploy fisherfolks in our EEZ. But, these fisherfolks who plan to stay for awhile in the sea should be properly trained in the guerilla warfare, in case, the Chinese Coast Guards, Navy and militias will swarm them and threaten their life. They are really there in the seas to fish as fishermen do and with more fish yields probably and therefore more business opportunities. But, they may have to be committed that it is a very risky business, indeed, knowing that the Chinese Gangs are there to threaten and harass their livelihood and may, also, intentionally kill in the guise of inventing an alternative story of accident encounter with the help of duplicity and skilful diplomacy. And, also, these fisherfolks should be assisted in acquiring at least one or two good fishing vessels with high tech monitoring system, aside, from the usual banka, for them to take shelter in an emergency situation. They could ask the Philippine Navy and Philippine Coast Guard, who are just stationed on nearby islands like the Pag-Asa Island, for help in case the Chinese Gangs decide to swarm on them or throw water canons at them. I know, it is easier said than done, especially, when precious lives are threatened! It is a crazy idea, but, the Chinese Gangs have done it well in the gray-zone area that resulted in neutralising their target victim and enemy, the Philippines, into taking action by force. The Chinese knew that we are always for peaceful resolution so they got away with just pulling the tiger’s tail just enough to agitate it a bit in a controlled manner, but never really attacking it. The Chinese Gangs have discovered a new tool of warfare, in this case. The ability to subdue the enemy without any battles is the ultimate reflection of the most supreme strategy- Sun Tzu. So we should now know that China never considered us as friends. We are their enemy, after all. The CCP has this screwed mentality that we were egged-on by the United States, which is not true. As a coastal state, what China did to our ordinary fisherfolks and the rescent incident in the Ayungin Shoal in our own EEZ is a testament of threat to our sovereignty, sovereign rights and judicial rights granted to us under UNCLOS in which China was a signatory. The malicious war tactic and intimidation technique done by the Chinese Coast Guards, militia boats , and Chinese Navy are testament to their insensitivity and insincerity to really be friends with us. Their mentality is already screwed with the CCP propaganda rammed into them regarding the invented nine-dash-line narration since the 1940’s….
