You should add some thin black plastic strips inbetween the balls to stop the light bleeding. That would help with the contrast i reckon.
    Amazing work as always!

I agree about the light bleed. I would have sectioned it all off into individual squares around each LED and then simply placed one sheet of white plastic over it all......hey presto......you've got a dazzling light panel.

I've about a 150 in a box, made a slow colour changing led using 7 balls but had to buy lots to get them without writing g on them. I also found that sanding the LEDs defuses the light better.

I'm currently working on something similiar. Only monochromatic (red) tho, but 64x36 pixels, so total of something like 2304 holes. I originally planned to use black acryllic and drill it using stand drill, but after like 200 holes i gave up, split the panel in half, put it into my CNC and let it drill it for me. It took like 6 or 7 hours, but holes are almost perfectly straight, perfectly aligned. I did broke it obviously, putting 2000 holes into accryllic makes it really fragile, but nothing few drops of super glue couldn't fix. Currently, i'm building drivers for it, and hopefully by summer i'll be finished. This is very nice project to inspire from, and it looks amazing! Great job, thanks YT reccomendations, you earned a new sub! :)

There are ways to get straight lines with a grinder, though it requires some preparations. There are attachments you can make that essentially turns the grinder into a crude circular saw with a foot that will align with a straightedge. Or get a circular saw for metal. They do exist.
Also, get a robot to do the drudge work, lol.
