I have about 40 of these growing. Great nut. I use pruning clippers to break into them. Cut length wise. Here in Hawaii there really is not much for nut meat to forage. Lots of Kukui nut. So I planted enough Cut Nut to survive off of. They are best full purple and fallen on their own. The rats can be a problem. Cut nut can just sit around for months in the shell and be fine for eating. Favorite food of one of our plant ilk Coconut Chris on Big Island. He turned our crew onto the nut about 13 years ago. Those first couple of trees have become many today. I am trying to turn the local community on to Cut Nut because they have decorative potential in landscaping. Thanks and Aloha!
@@allthefruit Not in the native ecosystem. And really, the old timers here were not very creative about plants. Kauai did not have a south east asian connection so we missed all the cool fruit like durian etc. Not that many Tahitians either, most travel to Tahiti not from. This was a plantation island and the people got their food from the commissary. The uncles that knew to plant anything were few and far between. The white hippys brought all of the fruit trees we have now. Less than 10 people are responsible for 90% of Kauais rare/unusual fruits. I am one of them.
I have also been able to try cut nut in Hawaii. The type coconut Chris has been propagating is a good one. I have a farm there in Papaaloa but haven’t planted any cut nut trees yet.
Thank you for this edible Barringtonia nut reveal--We have spent a bit of time in Bogor and have a giant Barringtonia tree, on our property--but was not aware of this one. "gotta dig all of the tropical nuts"

@@nicolassaarni88 Shoots! Coco Chris brought these seeds over here like 13 years ago. My trees are from those trees. So pretty.

Yep, all of them 😂
Remind me of fejoas! The inflorescence also looks nice and can get quite long
Taste is different 😂
@allthefruit I know, I was talking about the shape 😌
Yeah
The taste should be a mix of macadamia and chestnut, also creamier
Maybe
