- This video is my attempt to explain my 2020 contribution to the Trans Euro Trail (TET) - a 60,000km dirt road adventure through Europe.
The route is provided by motorcyclists, for motorcyclists, without charge.

Thank you all for your kind words - it's a pleasure to having given you all something to enjoy in your own time and upon your own terms.
Do cherish, respect, support and enjoy the TET - it's a wonderful project that benefits both motorcyclists and rural communities.
Just discovered the channel. You need your own mainstream tv show.
Me and a few guys just did this on some larger bikes my own being ktm 790 adventure with luggage ,we didnt do the steps as this was hard work as it was , also one other valley every thing else was a go ,it was great fun very glad this was put together cant thankyou enough ,topjob
Im doin this in2 weeks time with 2 mates on 701s where did you start from and how long did you take? thanks..
What a fantastic effort. Thank you for putting the time and effort into researching and creating this route for the benefit of all. The video is great too with the commentary answering all the questions I'm thinking off as it progresses. Time for me to buy a suitable bike now!
Glad it was helpful!
Looking forward to this with a few of my mates as soon as possible
Great video
Excellent ... and to support your work, I have checked every mile of it on OSM, adding in the missing the missing lanes, & correctly tagging as BOAT/UCR etc. I have also ensured precision & key details are on the map, especially in the more difficult to navigate areas. It should help anyone using a OSM routable based map (OSMAnd, Maps.me, etc) or a converted download running on their Garmin, navigate the Tetty.
Thanks Russ - there's no substitute for accuracy and motivation to a social cause.
@@WiltshireByways Hi James (I'm pretty sure James aka Jimmy K is WB!) do you have a GPX for the Welsh TETTY? I have looked on line without luck!
@@TheIdlesurfer Hello Andrew. The TT (not that one) is included in the UK TEY download, available free from the TET website or via the TET app on am Android device.
@@WiltshireByways Thanks James. I've got it now and doing it next April. Also, thanks for this. I played a very minor part in setting up the TET, and the effort you linesmen go to is immense, as was Brian before you. Your work is really appreciated.
Excellent work Jimmy 👍
awesome job, excellent way to bring forgotten lanes back into use.
I really enjoyed riding the Great Western trail last year, all the hard work you put into researching these routes is much appreciated. Looking forward to trying out the Tetty later this year when we are set free to roam again!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I thought great western had too much tarmac ...still a great few days away with mates. We will do this route soon as it's not too far off my door step as we from R.C.T sw... 👍👍
Fantastic, Plans underway thanks for all your hard work :-)
Great work!
Thanks, for putting this together hopefully give this a go in the near future
Please do!
Keep up the good work 👍
Looks good thanks
Great, thank you. Good luck.
Tremendous work, thanks very much for the contribution to the community. It must have taken hours of work to recce and map, not to mention fuel, tyres and pies. Looking forward to riding it.
You're welcome, enjoy!
That looks great. Many thanks for your efforts again, really appreciate it. Looks like West is best later this year.
You bet!
Fantastic!
Many thanks!
Nice work 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
A really good idea, thank you 😊
Thank you!
Hopefully get down there and try it this year 🤞
Great. Thank you. Just a quick jump from Rosslare!
Enjoy!
This is Epic
Rest in peace James
I'll add my tuppeny's worth. I did this trail on my 701,which as James observes, is probably a bit big, heavy and powerful for this trail. I managed it but my two friends on lighter, smaller bikes had an easier ride. On some lanes fallen trees made progress difficult on my 701 which has a Rally Raid screen. I'm a strong lad, but picking up my 701 for the 5th time on the trickier sections (and one pure rider error on a snotty descent with a hairpin in 2nd) was beginning to get very sweaty. Day 1 and day 3 are most fun. Brechfa Forest was brilliant fun. Some spectacular views and some really fun trails, but also some pretty difficult ones. I'm an averagely skilled but fairly experienced trail rider. I found 95% of the TETTY easy, 3% challenging and 2% where I'd have loved a lighter bike. I was on full on enduro tyres. 50/50 tyres for my skill level in the dry would just about have got me round it. In the wet, probably not.
Thanks Andrew! 🖐️
@@WiltshireByways thank you James. That was a big effort from you to put that trail up. And the Welsh locals were just bloody brilliant. Friendly, kind (my mate broke down and we were overwhelmed by the kindness of the good people of Fishguard). Once again,James, thanks for putting up 3 days fun and sticking about £350 into the economy of West Wales.
Looks just up my street :-)
what we need is a mass organised ride, 50 bike or (preferably) more ride out inside a day or two - all equipped with tools to allow access to be opened further, this will attract more and help keep growth down - with no traffic the route becomes insane
Nooo, just not the mass ride. That definitely not amuse the locals. I cannot think of a mass ride as of anything else but a herd behaviour, sorry if come across harsh.
split into groups and organise locations on the route of course - not going to place 50 people on one trail that needs help@@RhythumDancer
Hi cool channel you got my subscribe & full support⚘😇🥂
Thanks for this great video. Do I just download the Wales section of the UK TeT for this route?
The UK TET is one file containing several routes.
Heading for the Tetty in a couple of weeks James (echo the thanks below for your efforts putting it together), plan to start at Ammanford, go clockwise and camp on the way. Would you be able to suggest approximately where to stop on days 1 & 2 given the distances?
Perhaps aim for the Tenby area at the end of day one? There are more campsites further west.
this is a good thing
Great work, many thanks James. Just to be clear though, are you saying at 4:00 that there are a lot of additional lanes you could have included, had they not been physically blocked?
Correct.
Hi, we heard about this trail from a guy in a pub in Brechfa. I live in Pembrokeshire and after a couple of hours of googling I cannot find a GPX route for this trail. I don't have an android phone, IOS only and when you download the GPX route for the whole of the UK from the TET website it totally cuts off Pemsb and Carmarthenshire. I'd love to explore this as usually we drive our bikes to Brechfa forest to ride, this looks amazing and it's on my doorstep, just seems like you are the only chap in the know. Any help much appreciated. Well done it looks incredible.
Use a different application. Some cannot process the size of the UK GPX.
@@WiltshireByways Thanks for the quick reply, it was more about finding the Tetty GPX file, which was actually a really difficult thing to do. In the end I found it as a trail in OutdoorActive after searching for Tetty GPX.
It's an incredible project, I didn't realise that it was an "add on" and that's why it was seemingly hard to find.
@@RouChater It's part of the UK TET file. If you're not using it, you will be using an out of date route as it had been updated several times.
@@WiltshireByways It wasn't on the UK TET GPX I downloaded from the website this morning
@@RouChater It is. The problem is that you're using an application that cannot process such a large file.
Do you think that a X Trainer can do this..
Yes - I mention it in the video.
'a degree of caution is advised' ha, ha, ha
; )
Is the tetty trail the same route as the tet?
It's part of the TET.
You say most of the route is tarmacked roads, roughly what proportion is lanes vs roads?
More tarmac than anyone would like.
@@WiltshireByways ofcourse... 1 mile of tarmac is more than I would like BUT... Is it 50/50? Cuz if its 90% tarmac i'll give it a miss.
If you don't enjoy tarmac riding then I think the TET is probably not for you.
Any chance of a straightforward answer?
Not for such a complex question. Try following the route on a map to answer it.
60,000 km ? really
depends on optional loops but 51,000km is often quoted with 2600km in UK
@@footpathman9679 Thats unreal. Nearly all the byways in sussex closed after the Nerc act & that buck tooth witch Janet Street Porter with her ramblers. Now they are moaning lanes are over grown
Perhaps nearer 55,000km - a fair bit has been added to the TET since the website was last updated.
@@RA9gaymore we lost a lot from NERC and many of us lost a favourite (in my case Walna Scar) but in England and Wales we have a lot left and we're much better off than many other countries - including Scotland - and as Wiltshire Byways says, use what we've got and it'll keep them open/usable. I watch UA-cam videos saying 'best trails in Europe' and realise we have some of the best here but some areas much better than others.
