Found a 2001 live show recording of Rise Against, one of the first with decent sound quality, pure Unraveling songs.
• Rise Against Live in M...
29 minutes of goodness.
I'd just like to put this out there : Am I the only one that listens to rise against for lyrics ? I see so many people complaining how from this album they all went down. In my opinion, they still sound awesome and their lyrics are as strong as ever.
No, you're not alone, for me, a good song is meaningful, relatable but important lyrics with tones and music to support and reflect the emotions and feeling in the lyrics :)
Some of my favouroite RA songs are from the Black Market, so I guess I love the old and the new :)
kratosaurion24 *_Went down? Endgame and The Black Market are AWESOME!_*
They're not bad it's just different and many people do not enjoy change of their bands as they believe they should sound like.
The band grew up and maybe wanted to try something new, because it's what a musician craves to do ; explore new melodies and sounds.
Also Tim has been singing pretty much every day for years and you can only expect someone to go so long without any issues with their vocal chords (he has a much grittier voice and while he can still probably hit the notes he was known for, they arent ideal for him to be doing every single day.)
Maybe they should take some cues from RA and see the good in the "bad".
Crazy I still find new powerful and just great songs from Rise Against and this one has been out at least 14 years. Idk I might have just elective amnesia...
First a spark
Then a flame
Now a fire
We explode
Into the darkest of nights
Disconnect
Cut the cord
Lines are dead
Now they'll know
With everything comes a price
every rise against song is nothing short of pure poetry
i love this song, i wont ever understand why someone would dislike Rise Against or any of there songs. they are the best and i support everything they 'Rise Against'. :)
0:39 i swear it isn't "lives that take no longer take place" its "adds that no longer take place" this makes more sense as well because the song is referring to the influence of the media
This tune is so underrated
the chorus sounds like someone going through sever depression and turning off there phones and blocking people out. the verses are the negative reality that drove him there.
@ProLemZzz other than Tim saying it's about the book and all of the references that you can pick up throughout the song, you're right, I guess I don't really have an argument. If you went out and read the book and actually understood it, you'd see it's a very easy connection to make.
love Rise Against ^^
Man, I LOVE this song! It's like I find a new "favorite" song from rise against from time to time. They're all favorites!! lol
LOVE THIS SO MUCH!!!
Thanks for all the lyrics°!!! Rise Against's just AMAZING!!
I enjoy all of their albums and songs. I think it's kind of cool to see how their music has progressed and changed throughout their career. I don't have a favorite album or time period of their music; it's all different but they all have meaning and great songwriting.
@sbrcs564 I didn't know Rise Against when I first read it. I found out about them about a year later. But every time I hear this song, I think about Bradbury's concept of us becoming addicted to fantasy to a point where we can't face reality.
Ok, I must see them live. I love almost all of their songs :)
One of my favorite songs!!
i like this song very much \m/
Fuck yes. The description gives me pure happiness. Thanks for that, chicken.
i LOVE this song..very very very very nice work RA!!!!!!!!!
@TheNordbjerg *sigh*
Why do I even bother arguing with ignorants like you.
Queen Elizabeth II is the queen of 16 sovereign states, including Canada and Australia, and is the head of all Commonwealth nations.
The countries I mentioned all have English as their official Language, they merely have different dialects. Just like us Faroese have Danish as our second language, but with a very different dialect.
@Super9Maddog im honestly in utter disregard, i truly cant believe anybody would feel so badly towards this song, its amazing.
@Devel1001 the song was exclusively put on the american cd. To get it find a hard cd with the track on it. But you can use something like frostwire to get it.
one of my favourite song by rise against =)
The most intelligent band ever does a song based off of one of the most intelligent books ever. Makes perfect sense.
@Audifan8595 I know, when I read that book, I thought "Man, this sounds like something deep enough for Rise Against to talk about." And then, what do you know, that's what this song is about.
"first a spark then a flame now a fire we explode " best part of the song :)
@themightychickens Thankyou for the link to that awesome vid!
im lovin it
@themightychickens thank you sir.
This has to be fav ATM by far
@SkullcandySteve1 Agreed haha. I love all of RA's stuff too, and Whereabouts Unknown is definitely near the top of this album for me, especially the first minute. What do you think of Rumors of my Demise Have Been Greatly Exaggerated (off Siren Song)? I wouldn't say it's my favorite since it's like a 10 way tie, but it probably stands out the most to me because of the truly beautiful lyrics that I can relate to and killer chorus.
@TheNordbjerg So you would argue that Canadians, Australians, South Americans and Indians are all in fact part British?
Rise Against:D
looove:*
@thelinkinparkmaniac Well apparently the only way to get this song now is by buying the Itunes version. (that was 2 minutes of reseach)
have you heard their latest album? All their latest songs lead up to a revolution
Great song. Second best off the album.
this song reminds me so much of their earlier days in music a song that you could do street bmx to
First a spark then a flame then a fire WE EXPLOODDDEEEE :D:D
I feel so awesome when listening to this on my ride to school xD
ha finally not a single dislike on a good rock song.
I don't think it's all about the subject matter either, 'Bullet' by Hollywood Undead is about suicide but it's happy tune and fast beat makes it an absurdly cheerful song, music like this invigorates you, it makes you angry and brings a rush of blood that you wouldn't get from other kinds of music.
"These triggers ache for the touch" That's the best part! I really don't know why I like that part. Probably because I have seen so many people commite suicide since I was very young and they put it so beautifully.
@sbrcs564 You're right, it is based on Fahrenheit 451! It always reminded me of that book, but it's really based on it? That's sick! :D
It's is most certainly NOT here alone. And if you think about the lyrics as a whole, that makes no sense. So until Tim directs us otherwise, let's sing it as fear alone.
this song reminds me of rise against
@thelinkinparkmaniac It doesn't matter in which country you were in when you bought it smartass, it depends on who you bought it from.
@TheNordbjerg The Faroe Islands are an autonomous province of Denmark, and are a part of the Danish Kingdom (among with Greenland) and have been so since WWII. That does not, in any way, make us Danes.
Now I don't understand why you would think I have some sort of dislike for Danes just because I live by factual information, but I would appreciate if you would stop making such ridiculous assumptions.
@thelinkinparkmaniac Depends on where you buy the album...
The Faroe Islands, a bunch of islands north of the UK. Population: 50k.
Best song by the best band ever
@ProLemZzz Well it would be Ads then, not adds. And second, no you're wrong. And if you've ever read Fahrenheit 451, lives that no.... makes perfect sense.
Kotov Syndrome is my favourite off the normal version of this album, but this the BEST off of ATR. It's simply amazing.
do listen to it here alone like a crutch maybe that's what keeps us up
nice song keep up the good work :)
@okok986 I was hoping someone would make that connection. very good song, very good book
I mean that Rise Against signs a lot about wars, animal rights, climate, etc., when Anti-Flag signs about things like GATT, WTO, Mumia Abu-Jamal, School of the Americas, etc. Anti-Flag goes deeper with their songs than Rise Against.
I knew it would come :-P
@jmelbo17 well unless your hearing is impaired... then i can't understand how the hell you get lives... Oh and no your wrong, it doesn't make perfect sense seeming as "Elective Amnesia" and the song both refer to the media's influence so why the hell would they sing about screams and lives... yea mate don't think you know make sure you get your facts right before you present an attitude (y)
@TheNordbjerg Well you weren't exactly asking, you were stating inaccurate information.
Fahrenheit 451 is a great book, but I don't think this song is based off of it. Sure, they have elements of fire and of giant, controlling TV screens in common, but the song portrays fire as the liberator while the book portrays fire as the enemy and destroyer. Pretty strong contrasts for one to be based off the other.
It would be a pepper, rebelling against ur digestion leaving some damage for sure ;D
@gears2fan888 The title is a play on words. Selective Amnesia is a real thing. Elective Amnesia is something RA made up.
@00Powell nevermind itunes exclusive i found out.
You didn't hear this from me, OK? Look in the description if you're into The Unraveling.
And keep it a secret.
The specific meanings are the easiest to achieve. Fact throwing in the audience's faces is easy. Reaching the actual problems which we face, the actual social and personal structures and relationships beyond the obvious is what a 'best meaning' would be.
And this is exactly what bands like Rise Against and Flogging Molly aim at. And that is why they DO have the best meanings. Because they try to bring the focus towards the real meaning of things. And not just the consolidated leftist discourse.
That was quick. Any email with ZB involved?
@gears2fan888 Nope it's "Elective Amnesia" the title is right.
When I first heard the intro I was like "damn, another slow song from ATR"...
Unbelievable what it had turned out to be.
@KevinioHD Yes that was it
it rise against was a food what would it be ?
We don't sleep very much
These triggers ache for the touch
Where's the strength we relied on?
Here alone, like a crutch
Maybe that's what keeps us up
All the night with the light on...
Glowing screens simulate
Ads that no longer take place
Can this be what we've become?
Paper-thin, overweight
Pills to arouse or sedate
Still we don't know we want
We can't let go!
Can't you see?
To lose control,
Is to be...
Finally free!
There's the first bit with a bit better lyrics :P
@zairales that was the most random but awsome comment ive ever read.
CHINESE CRYSTAL ELDERY FISH!!!
@Super9Maddog Good for you.
i like it
We explode!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
with everything comes a price!!!!!!!!!!
This song by Rise Against is so fucking awesome !!
it's talking about the presidents !
First a spark, then a flame, now a fire...
What they have done to us ! Spark Flame And A Fire !
That is so fucking incredible !
We don't sleep very much Presidents voice at the main line the first verse!
Then Finally Free!
They have been free to control us !
To lose control is to pay !
Fuck ya dude !
I think you can now understand !!
Probably tied for the best song on ATR with From Heads Unworthy IMO.

Your profile picture....*Hypnotized*

@jmelbo17 It is fear.
@ProLemZzz the song is about fahrenheit 451... lol what are you talking about? in the book people stop living and just watch TV's that show what life is like. jesus go read a book dude lol. owned.
It feels really late at night but its only 11:15 A.M. Weird
@Devel1001 Piracy, buy the album with the track on it, rip it off youtube with movie maker, just to name a few
@themightychickens itunes has it
I just went on google earth and found the Faroe Islands. That sucks dude. How far off of mainland UK is that?
@Volvagia0slayer seems more like aldous huxley's book (Brave New World) influenced this more than 451. Although i've nvr read huxley's
@Super9Maddog this song is awesome i feel proud 2 give it da 125. like i spoiled my ears.... just my opinion
@TheNordbjerg no... ?
@Equallymoveable Yes yes I am.
@aniharman100 Very true, my bro.
someone call the cops...I just raped the replay button.
best >_<
yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh
this would be a great theme song fro the Brotherhood in 1984
@SalvatoreAlBoin Hate "it?" As in this song? This is my favorite song by Rise Against :P
Well, elective is a word associated with choice or selection: I elected to walk the dog (I chose to walk the dog)
amnesia is when you forget things. (I suffer from amnesia; i cannot remember my name)
put two and two together.
@FiftyPoet i read this at 11:20 and i was just thinking that. are you my uncle? 3 weeks in the future thinking what im thinking?
🌎
You mean the best band ever? Yeah, its totally them
Rise against makes me wanna wage guerilla warfare
