  • After crushing my rocker panels on every trail run I've done with Samurai, it's finally time to install some armor! This is a fairly straight-forward install, but I offer up some tips that might help you put them on, and might even prevent you from buying the wrong ones for your rig.

    Thank you. After ordering these sliders and showing up a week later. No full color instructions. I used your video to install the sliders. I only found your video. Crazy that lror does not send instructions. However, thank you for showing such great install.

    You should look into Eastwood products if you haven't, they sell powder coating products and higher quality paint products that may be a bit more durable in case that's what you're looking for. The sliders look great.

    They look badass I’d been wanting to do sliders and was looking at the jeep ones but these look very stout, great content keep it up

      Thanks man! If you weld and have cutting tools you could probably make some fairly easy too. Much like the ones I have on the Suburban. 🤙🏻

      Fortune Off-Road yea I’ve fabbed up some pieces for the sammy like the seat brackets for the BMW seats i installed, it be a good idea like u suggested to add braces to the frame and sliders

    Look awesome, no way around it. My concern would be that the parts added are way stronger and heavier than the body it bolts on to
    If you were to slide on rocks, the sliders themselves would probably fly off ripping through the bolts as bolted onto the body.
    Worse case scenario the sliders will remain bolted pushing up on the body tub destroying it
    A proper rock slider should be positioned under the body panel and affixed to the chassis protecting the body instead of using the body

      Yeah I'm with you on that. I've been running these hard for a few years now and the body has held up. I plan on tying them into the frame soon

    Thanks for making this video. I'm about to install a set this weekend.....now I'm terrified about those jack nuts. Oh well, at least I got some tips from your video. Have you had occasion to put them to the test on the trail? Thanks again.

      Just take your time tightening them. We have lots of videos of the Samurai on the trail in the rocks. Check out the video released last Sunday 🤙🏻

    What is the specific model# for these steps?
    Your videos are great!
    I love the tech and the wheeling videos.
    We need more Nor Cal trail rides......

    Do they not recommend putting primer or some kind of sealant in the holes to avoid rust? Or are Samurais not prone to rusting rockers like trackers and sidekicks?

    • @FortuneOffRoad
      @FortuneOffRoad  3 роки тому

      They probably do recommend that. I put primer all over the bare metal surfaces but haven't put any sealant on. I may do that when I add some braces later on. KM

      @Gyppor 3 роки тому

      @@FortuneOffRoad I would recommend it if you plan to keep the Samurai for a while, I've had a 98 tracker on which the rockers were gone by the time I got rid of it, and my '99 Vitara's rockers are starting to rot - from the inside!

    They look really awesome but If feel like a weak solution to bolt it to the body and not the frame?

    • @FortuneOffRoad
      @FortuneOffRoad  2 роки тому

      You're absolutely right. They take hits well but the body doesn't. I would tie them into the frame if you buy some.

    Hey Kyle, not sure if you've made a video about this, but could you go over how to drive off-road in a samurai? For example, in a video you're walking next to your samurai (ghost riding), how are you able to do that if it's a manual transmission?

    • @FortuneOffRoad
      @FortuneOffRoad  3 роки тому +2

      It just has really low gears in the transfer case. 6.4:1. That gearing allows it to crawl in low range without needing to give it any gas. 👍🏻

    • @TylerHemmings
      @TylerHemmings 3 роки тому

      @@FortuneOffRoad ahhh, so you would need to get that type of transfer case?

    • @FortuneOffRoad
      @FortuneOffRoad  3 роки тому +1

      @@TylerHemmings you can buy one that already has the low gears in it like I did from Trail Tough. Or you can put the gear set in yourself. 👍🏻

    Invest in a riv nut gun. Much better than the Jack nut.

    • @FortuneOffRoad

      I would like to know that too! I definitely need to weigh it before I add bugger tires and toyota axles.

    Dont connect that slider to the frame the body and frame need to flex independently looks sweet keep up the vids 👊

    • @FortuneOffRoad
      @FortuneOffRoad  3 роки тому +1

      In the full size world there was too much independent flex. I kind of want the Samurai body and frame to both become more rigid and not flex. 🤷🏼‍♂️

    Nice install and all but this solution will introduce a lot of corrosion in all but the driest climates.

    don't need em the wheelbase is to short to ever hit the rocker panels. lol jk . but actually they aren't a good fit for me because I live in southeast texas and its all mud, you would have to dig like 40 ft to get to rocks.

    • @FortuneOffRoad
      @FortuneOffRoad  3 роки тому

      I have only hit them one time so far! Glad to have them, but you're right, probably won't use them much.

  • @reddog4x4Matt
    @reddog4x4Matt 2 роки тому

    WTF? You attached it to the bottom panel? There's a perfectly good chassis rail to bolt real rock sliders to so close! Those things are just adding more holes to grow rust from. 50mm tube and ubolts to chassis, way stronger.

    • @FortuneOffRoad
      @FortuneOffRoad  2 роки тому

      More clearance and a better look this way. The frame mounted ones are great too, but these are equally strong if you reinforce at the frame. I predict myself cutting that whole panel off eventually for a mini boatside. We'll see! 🤘🏻
