She is the real thing. As incredible as it sounds, she’s a stride pianist, but not in some stuffy backward- looking academic way, but, to repeat, she’s the real thing. How terrific she is and how lucky we are.
Her family have heard this incredible mastery all day every day for years! - they're not going to stand on ceremony to give applause and appreciation!....
Just one other note: I appreciate she's playing at home, but the people listening, presumably her family, don't seem to offer any appreciation. If I were there, I couldn't help but applaud or say something to reflect my appreciation.
I could be mistaken, but I seem to recall her commenting that it was too much of an interval for her reach, so she had to sort of "grace note" them, hitting the lower note first and then the higher note in quick succession.
Never thought I'd see see someone so talented follow in the footsteps of that great 'Queen of the Piano', Winifred Atwell. I wonder if Stephanie will become as versatile as Winnie.
@aknabea It might take superior talent, but it also takes a lot of hard work to get this good. I think that the effort she has put in is far more commendable.
What i want to know is this...if/when I tried to play something like this my fingers lock up, my mind shuts down, my back aches and my eyes glaze over. What am I doing wrong lol I might just manage the final arpeggio...on a good day. Stepanie makes it look so easy.. Wonderful .
The arrangement is actually by Louis Mazetier, who did indeed infuse his version with several Lambertisms, although Lambert never recorded this piece, and I am not aware that he played it. Louis is Lambert's modern day John the Baptist.
here's a new one you might not otherwise find.... OK, YT won't let me paste the link (to their site), so just search this.... Nouveau Stride - Rules of the Park
"turn in one's grave: used to describe the upset, disgust, horror or anger of a deceased person if he or she were alive to hear of a certain news story, action or idea - especially a negative one." Fats would certainly NOT be rolling over in his grave about this. I'd say he'd be "grinning ear to ear," but everyone that's been in the ground that long grins ear to ear....
she may play 500 songs per day, and maybe they get tired of stopping to applaud and complement her, or maybe she asked them not to coz she does not do it for that and does not want to put them out.
Whoever operated the camera was apparently overtaken by violently spasmodic gas while filming. Fortunately the music was great and Stephanie was beautiful and so this is a great video regardless.
Wow, it sounds like a cross between Charleston and ragtime, the rhythm is that of a rag, however the melody is definitely Charleston and its being played way to fast for ragtime piece. However, all in all, I love the piece and I love your playing :)))
Stephanie Trick is marvelous, and getting even better. Stride is really back!
She speed and accuracy of that left hand is amazing. I'm totally in awe.
Right hand is amazing as well. Listen at 1:44. This piece is Rialto Ripples if anyone cares.
Her playing matches her looks, Stunning!
The look on her face while she plays makes it clear how much she loves what she does.
When she cracks that smile - it's GAME OVER -best and lovliest piano playing.we will ever hear or see in our lifetimes..

She plays Classical, Ragtime, Stride and Jazz Standards, versatile enough for you?
Dear Stephanie! I could have met Eubie Blake when i was in St. Louis 1984, but he was to ill to turn up at that time. All the very, very best! Andy
somebody please explain how .. in.. the world.. you make your left hand....operate....independently .. of.. your right hand.... AMAZING
'I' loves you Stephanie; aye right, if only 'I' was 20 years younger...
Troublesome Ivories (Eubie Blake)
Not completely -- the second part is from "Modernistic" by James P. Johnson
💖
Die ist echt gut.
@aknabea It might take superior talent, but it also takes a lot of hard work to get this good. I think that the effort she has put in is far more commendable.
She's playing a medley of Eubie Blake's "Troublesome Ivories" and James P. Johnson's "Modernistic."
he is on the Rag !
@BugattiD 1. Troublesome Ivories by Eubie Blake, 2. Troublesome Ivories, again from the top, 3. Harlem Strut by James P. Johnson
"Ain't that troublesome? Sh-------------oh' is!" Eubie Blake
Original title was Black Keys on Parade. Also recorded under the title, Ragtime Rag. Sometimes confused with " Tricky Fingers ".
Just watching this makes my left forearm sore :-P
To hell with the camera. My only question revolves around why the piano didn’t burst into flames. Jeez, what playing!
The cameraman is tripping dude! I wish the camera had stayed locked on her hands?
What i want to know is this...if/when I tried to play something like this my fingers lock up, my mind shuts down, my back aches and my eyes glaze over.
What am I doing wrong lol
I might just manage the final arpeggio...on a good day.
Stepanie makes it look so easy..
Wonderful .

tricky fingers by Eubie Blake????
AAAAAGGGGHHHHH!!!!!
Like-ity-like-like. Yowza!
jelly roll's "finger buster"?
The first arrangement of "Troublesome Ivories" sounds like a Donald Lambert arrangement... correct?
The arrangement is actually by Louis Mazetier, who did indeed infuse his version with several Lambertisms, although Lambert never recorded this piece, and I am not aware that he played it. Louis is Lambert's modern day John the Baptist.
time for me to quit and get rid of my old upright, Here she is here it is!
Anyone know what the first song she played is?
Can you play Finger Buster by Willie The Lion Smith?
love you - please write back!
Oh, if I was that piano! Or that bench.
