Actually, he _did eventually_ give up once. In the "Three Little Dogs" , he put a whole bunch of dynamite in front of their house near the end and says: "This here's the last straw. If this don't work then I'll...I'll go into television!" He's a wolf of his word, I'll say that.

@@hubertberrum6242 Oh yeah. Well it's the fancy wolf that beats up his hick cousin I think, not the one that goes after the beautiful woman or usually goes up against Droopy.
Apparently, this southern accented cartoon character didn't have an official titled name. He is sometimes referred to as "Whistlin' Wolf," "Southern Wolf", or "Dixie Wolf" mostly to distinguish this character from other, but separate, Tex Avery wolf characters, (particularly "Slick Joe McWolf.") I do wonder why "Whistlin' Wolf" wasn't more fully developed into a series of cartoons. The character had a compelling persona - laid back, persistent, not easily discouraged (though he does give up at the end), does not come across as being mean or evil even though he was usually the adversary of Droopy. ("Whistlin' Wolf" did star in one cartoon, titled "Billy Boy".)
Tex Avery did had plans to do more shorts with the character as a main lead but by the time Billy Boy was finished, MGM dismantled Avery's animation unit. This particular character (along with Tex's other characters including Droopy) reappear as a regular in the recent Tom and Jerry show, primarily as either as a foil and/or antagonist for the duo.
@@zzamorano1717I wonder if Tex did the animation for him in "Billy Boy". He has a completely different way of walking, sliding his feet. And that's when he started doing that annoying (to me, anyway) repeating the last word in a sentence thing. Didn't much like that one.

Idiots who are persistent in their goals as well as being unwavering good sports. There are genius level characters who lack any likeable characteristics whatsoever, for the time this was actually pretty damn progressive.
Although he would be erased for lack of correctness (smh), ol' Dixie could teach a lot about letting things go and just be graceful whether you win or not.
In a way, these cartoons were ahead of their time. In an era where cartoons were all about a clear cut hero and villain, he was just a wolf following nature’s law who took all of his schemes to survive backfiring on him in stride.
One of my favorite characters from this generation. He's the O.G. of all chillness.
I miss cartoons like this. The wolf was the most chill character.
Pink Panther also remains chill for the most part.
