John Legend effectively took the Les McCann/Eddie Harris 1969 live version, and filed off the edges - still very good, BUT best when listened to back-to-back with the Live at the Montreux version. Either version you prefer, things haven't changed much since '69.
I get down with the ROOTS...John Legend is OK...But they took the luster out of this joint...it needs Benny Bailey blowin his horn and Les McCann burnin the keys.
Owen Biddle made this cover. Damn what a badass. I love The Roots and I love Mark Kelley but the bass in this tune is what makes it. Outstanding.

Have to agree, but not a bad cover, just not the incomparable original.
McCann & Harris blew this song up in 1969....this sounds so fake. None of the original or kick that they had. Thumbs down!
