Well, in 1957 no guarantee you'd have a Bath in the house, tin bath or go down the baths once a week. Wasn't til the 60's when the economy began to really take off that people really began extending and adding proper kitchens and bathrooms to older terraced houses.

I just scoured the internet looking for pics of the interior, and every picture I could find of one of these just shows two bench seat/bed conversions, and that stove unit, with a tall cabinet to the left of hit, too small to be anything but storage. I'm thinking that bathtub was a bit of artistic license.
My friend brought an old pistol to the range. The booklet that came with it said “This pistol should not be fired by men with weak hands or women.” Who cares!
So you drive 5 km, park it on the side of the road, take the budgies outside, heat a kettleful of water, and take a sponge bath in a cramped van without a toilet but windows everywhere, hoping nobody peeks in. Who could say no?
Where are you finding all these Pathé "historical" movie clips? I am looking for one that dates back to 1934-35, featuring Marlene Dietrich visiting British film actor, David Niven, at his home near London. Perhaps searching on "David Niven" might turn up something?
That sounds very early? Niven didn't get to the US until 1934 and he wasn't even working as an extra in Hollywood until 1935. Since he had been a subaltern in the Highland Light Infantry prior to that, and based in Malta, I doubt he even had a home in England then.
Of course it was supposed to be. They did have a sense of humour in the 1950s you know, and Pathe were in the entertainment business. This is a light-hearted little magazine reel shown in cinemas before the main feature.
Whoa, I’ve apparently been forgetting to put on my dress and heels when I go to play outside. And my husband! He has absolutely been dressing all wrong. 😂. OMG. I can’t believe how funny this is now.
Why do I have a feeling that when this narrator found out about women becoming astronauts and fighter pilots and world leaders he ended up having a stroke.
That does not necessarily mean that the world has moved forward more quickly. In many ways it has moved backwards - it still benefits the minority, not the majority. Think about it.
“Luxurious caravan” = a tin box on wheels with a flimsy table. Bathroom = room with a bath tub that appears out of nowhere. Maybe the sink doubles as a toilet. And indeed, why not? 😂
Yes...you're right. I grew up in the 50s and he seemed to have a monopoly on all these short films in the cinema. Usually on just before the big picture and we were all rushing to buy our ice cream before it started. Happy days!
The narrator was Eamon Andrews, who became the host on this is your life. Got to remember that not everyone had TVs back then, the pictures and Pathe news, or look at life was contemporary news/happenings, social media spreads it globally instantly now.
_" lost in a flutter of feminine confusion."_ I can't get enough of this narrator.
I know, you would be linched now!
It's all filmed outside their house too!! They probably got a Guinea each to shoot this 🤣
😄
Like a woman she's always forgetting something 🤣 different world back then!
don't forget your budgey
Tragic that misogyny has gone so out of fashion in recent times.
The idea of a famous actress going off in her Dormobile to sit watching the rain on the seafront at Southend or somewhere fills me with delight
you sir, are brilliant
It’s not a door mobile they had sliding doors

Would be dope as a G.L.O.S.S. cover band~ lmao can I steal it
@@TheOnlyHandsomeJack sure but if you make it big with that name and become a millionaire you gotta buy me a home on wheels lol :)
"Like a woman she' is always forgetting something!" you wouldn't get away with saying that now and rightly so! Charming film, loved Dora Bryan.

It's all so delightful and beautiful. How slim everyone was back then,
Before KFC, McD and Subway hit the UK.
they introduced low fat foods in 1970 and processed foods full of sugar
...And smartly turned out. We look like such slobs in the 21st century!
Love how they drove 3 blocks away just so she can take a bath 🤦🏾♂️

While he was out golfing........she pulled the curtain across. Neighbour over perhaps from three blocks back?

To arrive at the theatre in that must have been amazing. The ladies were beautiful. Especially the second one.

The Chimes, Bishop's walk, London.
And then those rebellious Beatles and Rolling Stones came along !
