some people put bike racks or a car hitch behind their RV. You sir need to tow a man cave so you can keep a few axes. The Epiphone semi hollows are really practical guitars to have around.
You do not know what you are talking about. The Epiphone is a very collectible guitar. Gibson and Epiphone company goes we’ve back. Both companies have a history. Some Epiphones are very collectible. I have both Gibson Les Pauls, Fenders, And lots of Epiphones. I think maybe you need to get a house? Maybe, just a thought. Also I have been playing guitars for around 40 Years. Had hand surgery in 2019. Not bragging, I just think that for $ 500.00-800.00 I can get a good tool. Where about $ 1,000-up to the sky. I just think for the money you can get a really nice playing guitar. To be honest I was a little let down when I purchased my first Gibson. Don’t get me wrong it is a good guitar? Epiphone s are Great guitars for the money. Thank you very much. Garry B
Hi Dylan, If you are concerned about having room for your guitars and you want a Gibson ES 335 style model why not get the ES 339? It's like a ES 335 with a smaller body. Everything is the same including the scale. It's just that the body is a little smaller. It's slight wider than a Les Paul, but about the same length. It's a little lighter too. I've waited for years for Gibson to make a smaller version of an ES 335 they finally did a few years ago. Epiphone has an ES 339 also. The ES 335 is my favorite guitar but it's a little too large for me to play comfortably. I use to own a 1968 Walnut finish ES 335 but traded it for an SG Standard.
I have both Gibson and Epiphone SG guitars .The Epis are their high end models from the past 15 years or so ,and are very nice instruments with Gibson USA pickups and specs/features that set them apart from typical Epis... that said , my Gibsons just have that "feel" that puts them over the top for me. If I was forced to choose between my Gibsons and my Epiphones, the Gibsons stay .
Before you gave the reason I guessed the SG was the keeper because SGs with single P90s aren't as common as dual humbucker guitars, so that could be a factor. When I see an SG with P90s, I always think of Pete Townshend for some reason. Maybe because he got such great sound from his.
An idea when you´re on the road,is that you limit the time for keeping the "extra guitar" by xxx numer of travelled miles with it.It would be intreresting if you made a video with the topic "what is a collectable and what is not? Is there low priced guitars out there today that could be a good keeper and might be considered a "collectable" in the future?" Thanks for what you are doing here!
I owned a Epiphone LP 59, im not gonna lie if someone ask me to throw my Epiphone away and he/she would give me a Gibson LP Standard in exchange, pretty sure I would throw my Epiphone guitar away. And im sure Epiphone fanboy will do the same with me. I owned many epiphone guitars, its a very nice guitar, but Gibson has a better quality.
I've decided to keep my les studio and sell my sheraton for largely the same reasons. My dilemma is, do I swap the Duncans in the les for the 57 classics in the Sheraton before I do. If it didn't involve working on an archtop it would be an easier decision.
I've got a 2010 Gibson Les Paul in Iced Tea burst. And I've bought 3 Epiphone models after they've changed the headstock shape. I had to return them all. I did not like the finish, the pickups and the quality control sucked. they all had terrible string buzz. Poly flamed finishes do not move. It's the nitro cellulose that does it for me.
Dylan, you Gibson fanboy you 😂😂 I would be interested to get your take on the Squier Contemporary Strat specifically the single coil mod which either comes as hard tail or a trem . Pickip placement reminds me of Robbie Robertson’s positioning
"I have to be able to promote my products" So one P-90 slot vs two humbucker slots. Seems like a straight forward choice. Let's see if my math adds up?
"Collectibility" means absolutely nothing to me. Even less so in an instrument I like enough to keep. It would only have meaning if I meant to sell. Interesting that your reasoning is opposite. I would keep the two guitars that made me want to play the most, and to hell with collectibility and brand name.
Hopefully neither, every guitar has It's own personality and use, these are two guitars every guitarist should have in their collection, along with a strat and a tele, and of course a 24 fret guitar, although you may be able to mimic the sound of each guitar, with just one,I found it more useful,to just get the guitar used to make your favorite tone,or favorite tune, two guitars that are exactly alike, can even sound different,so choose wisely, brand names mean nothing,if the guitar doesn't feel right in your hands, and is just going to collect dust sitting in a corner somewhere, budget guitars make it possible for those who might have wanted a guitar, but don't want to put out the money for a brand name, the quality of budget guitars has really improved these days, throw a set of Dylan's pickups in an Epiphone, and save yourself $1000 of dollars, and blow away the brand snobs.
If you're not a Gibson fanboy, you should be! Jk. Personally, I think Gibson nailed it so well with the Les Paul that even Les Paul copies are amazing instruments that are extremely versatile. You can take them to just about any kind of jam session and sound great.
Once you get a guitar that has that mojo (for you) then you just don't want to put it down when you play it. You just want to keep playing and playing.
I am of the opinion, ya keep both. This could be good because you made both guitars yours and you put your heart, soul, and sweaty MOJO into both. I even believe that dead pieces of wood have a frequency that only their owners can drag out of them. That's why guitars aren't made out of metal, plastic or ceramic because those materials don't have MOJO likewood
Man, you just shot yourself in the foot. You are a pickup manufacturer, you should never go for the single pickup guitar... 3 pickups at least... Best of luck and its perfectly understandable. The collection and gibson, not that much, because there are so many gibsons out there that their collectible value is questionable.
@@davidburke2132 My point wasn't to keep the epiphone, just saying I don't see a normal gibson has a collectible guitar, its something you want to own. Collectibles are usually things that are not made to be collectible, they just become desired things. There are many vintage collectible gibsons, but they were never made for that purpose. Will a regular gibson, or fender from this day and age ever be a collectible? In, my opinion, they are too expensive to be used by upcoming musicians and become iconic, and the established musicians will use custom shop stuff, so most probably not. Most probably some obscure "affordable" model, or a strange brand that appeals to a particular musician will become the next collectible guitars, not a 2021 SG... Maybe the Fender Clapton strat, which is the guitar he uses on tour. Or an 1995 epiphone Riviera..
@@josearaujo8616 and the purpose of a collection is often not about rarity or increasing investment value. Often when it comes to guitars it’s about filling a specific recognised niche. In that sense, put bluntly, an Epiphone version of an ES-335 is not a “reference” guitar. A Gibson ES-335 absolutely is.
@@davidburke2132 1995 Riviera is played by the Strokes guitarist. But maybe its also another sort of collection, but in this case its the guitars you love, does not have to be a specific brand or model.
The best and most insightful thing is you give us YOUR reasons for choosing what you keep! I like it!
Hey Dylan. I've commissioned a build from Matt and Chris at TTG and it'll feature a set of your P90s. So looking forward to it.
I'm a proud owner of a Schecter Sun Valley Super Shredder in Birch Green. Looking forward to what you have to say about it.
I have one of the new SG Juniors. Also, for me, a bucket list guitar. I love mine, but I am interested in your P90s. My ES 330 may benefit from them.

Have always wanted a 335 style guitar! Thanks for making a very very nice guitar.
just got my first Gibson les paul standard in cherry burst bad ass and I got it at the Gibson garage in the beginning of August.
The finish is not "superficial"... Epiphone is a poly finish, Gibson is a real nitrocellulose finish. Worlds of difference material-wise.
I kept both of them and bought more Epiphones, Gibsons and Gretsch's. What I do is KEEP THEM ALL
That McPherson is pretty damn killer. I played one at Gruhn Guitars in Nashville and it honestly blew me away
I thought the SG was a dream guitar of yours.

Best 335 value? Eastman...hands down. As good....1/3 the price...ask around.

We all kinda knew the Epiphone was sold as you had already hinted at that during the Thursday live show.

Sell both and buy a PRS Fiore :)

Gotta be NITRO. 😛
Great job!
Good video, sound logic. I too want a 335 style guitar. One day...
Recently got one of the SG Jr.'s and I would need years of very expensive therapy if I had to part with it.
I wonder if there will be a Dylan-branded Sustaniac type pickup in the future? lol
Great content thanks .
