Seaport Village is incredibly meaningful to me. I would go there every time my family and I visited San Diego (almost yearly since 1992, which is also when we lived there for a year). I have wonderful memories there and loved riding the carousel. Also, getting a hot chocolate from Upstart Crow is a tradition of mine. It would be tragic if this place disappeared.
Edit: I just learned Upstart Crow closed. Now I'm actually sad. :(

Whenever I would visit San Diego, I would always make time to walk through the village. Always stopped @ Upstart Crow bookstore! Their cafe had very tasty things, so it was a nice place to stop for a coffee and yummy snack and of course pick up a great book!

The flag store reminds me of that guy who sells stuff outside of the local dollar tree. Man has every flag flying at once, he's got his confederate flag next to his Biden flag, next to his Recall Newsom flag, right by a pride flag, and it's a sight to see tbh

I live 10 mins east of there. My wife and I used to walk the whole Embarcadero area all the time. Also, ducks love snails. Instead of poisoning them, gather them up and take them to the local duck pond.

Theres actually some controversy about whether or not its okay to feed bread. Its definitely not the ideal health food for ducks but we don't really feed the ideal food to any other wild animal wandering around so its a bit odd to single out ducks to be concerned about.

Growing up In San Diego I loved hanging out at Seaport Village. They had some great little shops back in the 80'-90's. A Magic Store, Book/Coffee Store, a video arcade and yeah lots of random touristy stores! Also took a lot of High School club photos there .. ie ASB, band photos, student council etc.... loved it!!!

Aww, haven't been here in ages. Glad it's still there and I hope it stays. These "seaside centers" often get bulldozed and turned into uber modern centers that look nothing like the area in which they sit, so I hope this one keeps it's nice charm.

San Diegan here! I love this place even though it's a tourist trap. It has great food, and it's fun to walk around the shops. They sometimes have good live music and street performers as well. I always come here during Comic Con to take photos, since it's a short walk or trolley ride from the convention center. .
I'm interested in why you didn't talk about or show the carousel! It's incredibly historic.

I've been going to San Diego for years for Comic Con and I've been to Sea Port village like twice in all that time. Both were just to go to a restaurant someone recommended. It's a really lovely area but the problem is the Gaslamp is even more convenient for the Convention Center and has tons more options for food and bars than Seaport Village. It could really benefit from more dining options and less tacky tourist stores.

Seaport Village always gave me mixed vibes. Despite being a tourist trap, it does have some cool spots to check out like the Hot Licks, Geppetto's, and that one tile store (My wife loves this place). In a time where malls have become so generic and uniform in store selection its sort of a throwback to when malls had more variety.
BTW, despite the gross-out gimmicky name, Professor Phardtpounder's Colon Cleaner is actually a nice spicy mustard sauce. Goes great with sausages or hot dogs.

I remember visiting my Uncle as a kid in the late 80's and also in the late 90's early 00's when I lived there. They also had or have a Left handed only store.. As for Kite and Windsock store being anywhere else my area of Eastern CT is vary tourist focused and we have a outdoor mall much like this that also has a Kite shop also has a flag shop and a mom and pop Toy Store. so there is a formula for these

Oh man! I'm really shocked about the possibilities ofSeaport Village being torn one day!!!😬 From 1985 to 2003, I must have gone to San Diego 15 times on vacation, I love the place so much that during those times it has been my "second home". I've been to seaport village tons of times and I loved it there. I ate there, bought a kite, flew it on the grassy banks nearby, and bought refrigerator magnets, coffee cups and those fabulous penny smashers !!! Its a fabulous place to hang out while out there by the ports where they have the convention center, the bay excursion and the Fabulous Anthony's Fish restaurant that I hope its still there! It seems a bit sad that the COVID has diminished everything and San Diego is no exception. Watching your video on Seaport Village kind of shows me that the place is holding on ok but when I last was there in 2003 it was a bit more a bustling place and I'm glad for the most part it has kept its sparkle today. Thank you for showing this video. San Diego has been very dear to me, a very beautiful place!

Fellow AZ resident here; I reside in Yuma, so I make the jaunt to San Diego quite often. Seaport Village has always been a place that I check out when I'm in the area. I agree that it isn't what one would call dead, especially when there are events happening nearby.
When you drove into Seaport, you likely saw the construction taking place on the corner of Pacific Highway and Harbor Drive. That is for Manchester Pacific Gateway, which will be one of the most lavish resort hotels in the world. When it's completed (whenever that may be), I can't help but think that it will be a factor in getting business back up for Seaport Village.

I have many fond memories of Seaport Village. I would go to SD almost every other year for vactation and would stay at the Hyatt right by the mall and often walk across the parking lot to visit it. My elderly mother would love to sit and feed the ducks. We went and bought a bag of duck feed pellets from a pet store located in northern SD. My Mom gave pellets to several children to feed the ducks. I don't remember ever seeing that sign about the ducks though.
I haven't been to Seaport in about 8 years but it seems that it looks the same. Lots of the same stores are still there. You're right about the restaurants. It's the clear draw of the mall. Lots of them are really good. The Harbor House has some excellent seafood!

We visited in December, 2020, just before the second lockdown. It was pretty darned quiet, but the setting is great and I hope they can make it a better destination area. We stopped in the Hot Sauce shop, and we ran when we saw the flag shop. It doesn't help that the high-end Headquarters at Seaport sits between Seaport Village and Downtown. The Headquarters probably takes away the few luxury shoppers that would consider Seaport Village, as well as tourists walking from Gaslamp.

I used to live in SD for about 12 years back around 2002ish and used to enjoy just walking around this place esp aft we had a meal at our fav restaurant beside the USS Midway. I remember that hot sauce store and love the walkway by the water.

Just moved to Tucson from Virginia. Its nice to have a two story mall again. Sal did a video of our mall in staunton Virginia right before it shuttered. Absolutely a sad place. Anyway love your videos.

I went to high school in downtown SD, and we ran a lot to Seaport Village. I miss the bookstore there a lot, it got replaced by Geppetto’s. Also, you get to see otters and sea lions swimming around sometimes :)
Edit: One time when I was 13 my friends and I went to the chime store and the lady at the checkout counter was very mad at me for playing the xylophone in their store. Granted, it did say “Try the Xylophone!!!!”

3:00 Interesting, I ended up coming across a toy/game shop something like that in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware last summer. I picked up a couple of board games for my two brainy grandnieces.

I lived in San Diego from 1997-2001. Sea Port Village was one of the places we often went to. Even back then the shopping section was kind of dead but the restaurants, snack shops, and carousel were always busy. People did just go there mostly to eat and walk around.
I go to Seaport village every time we visit San Diego. I was last there in April and I noticed they had renovated a bit and some of the restaurants were different. My favorite Greek restaurant was no longer there 😞. It was pretty busy. Probably because it was around Easter .

Oh dang, this is the first time seeing a mall I’ve been to in here. I went in July and it was packed full of people, I’m surprised that people considered it a dead mall.
My parents got me a hammock when I was a child at Swings n Things and I bought a newer more durable model for myself as an adult.
My parents loved going to the Crazy Shirts and my Dad owns so many of those green money-dyed shirts.
I think I remember buying some brush pens and stickers at one of the stores there too.
My favorite fixture there is the cow couch in front of the Ben and Jerry’s. This mall is firmly associated with the smell of Ben and Jerry’s for me, actually. Last time I went though, I decided to try some birthday cake ice cream in a fancy cone from the fudge factory that’s next to the Ben and Jerry’s, and it was expensive but it was tasty.

Loved the look of the toy store. Also the choo choo in chattanooga used to have a penny smasher. It would imprint the train on it. Me and my wife both got one. Think we both lost them.
