Brent, you're a genius! You figure out every angle to accomplish your mission! Fantastic!
Try a hood prop from a mid 80's Corvette Brent. It lifts up and kicks to the side and sits on the edge of the support. When you want to retract you slide the tube back so it drops in on itself.
The way you wrap your head around each stage , then fill all the blank space with solutions is nothing short of pure magic . Then again Genius may be closer to the mark . Thank you for the education , I will await the next episode . Stuart in Ontario ..
Cool idea, can't wait to see it completed.
You’ll get the cover figured out, no doubt. You keep teasing me with the 54 Belaire. If I were closer to, I’d be bugging you to sell it to me. I just love that car and it was the year I was born. Maybe you could give us an update on it! Anyway, I enjoy your creativeness! Keep up the good work! You’re an inspiration!
The beginning of the cover is really cool. Your mind is awesome Brent. Thanks for the video
Minty !
Thank You for sharing your video, and letting us hang out .
Later ...
Ingenious Brent....
Anxious to see complete
Hey Pablo🐕 Love'n those frys...keep well all.....🤠
Good design. Just a thought, but would some kind of tubes/sleeves at the front for the top to go into when you close it help?
Theres a lot of wobble in washers, but igt you replace them with tubes on the ends of the long pieces, that should make them more stable hinges.
There’s nothing “Halfass” about your plans. I can envision it at your destination, hood up and bedcover up what a cool look.👍
Like, share and tell a friend
Awesome design simple and functional great content as always
You are GENIUS !!!! Whatever the "PROBLEM", you can find the "SOLUTION " !! 😅
Kinda like a Ford Retractable without the retractable part!😆 Super cool project Brent!
Looks like it would make a nice awning at the back of the truck to sit under when at a car show.
Greatest invention since the wheel Btent!😊😊
I think this is brilliant
You might try garage door channel and rollers for the front of the bed. Just a thought. Hope it could work. Thanks and we'll see you next time.
Gussets in each corner of each welded joint to stiffen the main frame. Cross brace at top of side pivot arms to provide lateral stiffness. Lower pressure has struts.
What you're doing with your tonneau cover is freaking awesome 👍
Very cool idea I like it
Awesome idea Brent, some tweaking and she will work great. Maybe some square tubing with bushings and shoulder bolts instead of the conduit could eliminate some of the play in the hinges? Maybe a lip to ride under towards the front of the bed with some teflon rollers to keep from wearing the paint and popping up until the second hinge point? Just some possible ideas, McMaster Carr is a great place to find stuff like this.
Love the engineering on the fly. Mark of a true DIY craftsman. Also, Crazy how stiff those struts are without leverage applied to them.
You’re a damn good fabricator , Thanks for another , Brother !
Saweeet🥞
You could add some sleek gripps to your roof that double as roof rack (surfer style) makes it easier to handle that top.
This truck gonna be a nice one👌
On the tail end, you could put 2 little short legs that swing down with gravity for the top to set on when open and swing back into a pocket when close and i think if you had bushing instead of washers on your rods it would take out a lot of wobble and maybe instead of struts you could use the old spring in a tube like the old pickup campers had
Make sure you use marine grade vinyl UV safe...:)
Brent, your brain hamster is an amazing engineer . 👍🏼🛠 🍺🍺
Now you have to add a trailer hitch and build a matching mini trailer so Esther has somewhere to put her luggage when you take this on a road trip!
My tonneau cover is going to work pretty darn good! Cheers
Gas struts off a hatch back car where the rear window opens separate from the tail gate might work as they are not as heavy duty like normal hatchbacks.
Awesomely done once again Brent.
Its great the way you figured that out, cant wait to see the finished truck!
Do you want to stiffen that trunk up? Cross bracelet, gusset it in the corners and from one end into the other and the other end of the other cross brace that’ll stiffen it all up
Looks. Good. Understand. What. Your. Doing. Thanks ❤❤❤❤
I am impressed!
Man you are a genius
Cool i am sure you will get the wobble out of it all in all great idea .Well done sir Brent
Hi My Dear Friend Very Very Good Job I Like It ❤❤❤❤❤
Thats going to be cool and very handy for you once you get it done
the thing you need is like inside slider out of a van door
Hi Brent. Just an idea… you have lots of elevation on the back of your tonneau when it’s open, room enough for a slide out carriage for your roof assembly. No reaching over the bedside awkwardly and having your tonneau standing up like a wind sail whilst dealing with putting on or taking off the roof. Just throwing that out there…
Hey Brent try turning the bender upside down. You can sight down the pipe and the handle as reference for square if that makes any sense.
I think when it is said and done with all the cross pieces and a Y it will be mint...catch you on the next one..later!
And put rubber stop inside bed sides so top doesn’t hit ground
Fabulous, long as it isn't too windy. I know you will figure it out.
👍 just dont open it back in a wind storm!!! thanks for the videos
! keep pushing!!!
Carson topped wif spider legs. Larger conduit support rods braced together with bearings might help.
Excellent video Brent :) , tannoe cover going turn nice also look nice too and got planned nice 👌 👍 too!
Just a thought. Hinge at the cab end and put a sliding tray out the back. Like your idea though.
Fantastic day again…you are so talented!! Maybe check out a fold-up boat canopy for a few extra ideas🤔…cheers from Australia 🇦🇺 😊
I like your ideas they are crazy but they work I love the fact that you laugh even if you have problems a high five from an Italian who lives in Brazil man🤗👍👍
Proof positive that the knee is an essential metal fabrication tool, especially when Brent uses his! Good stuff as always 😎👍💯
Brent, that was a true cover story! You did a linier 3-d drawing in space with conduit! WOW! Fun to watch! Thanks!
You could make a third foot for the back bed cover to pivot out and hold the back off the ground like a pendulum that would auto out and back into the bed.
With that light of a material in gusset the corners all of them to keep it from racking
Looking fantastic Brent , would some skateboard wheels work ? One on the top and one one the side kind of like an l shape .
I've seen some old hood hinges out of flat steel with a spring in the center that might solve your problem! Looking good.
Cool concept Brent
it would be way cooler if you could make it lift up by its self
Brent for the track why use overhead door track and still use your rubber wheel idea !
Alot of work Brent. It looks like you have mastered it!
Great work on the tonneau cover so far. Love the ingenuity. It will come together. Think you're gonna need some hefty chicken wire/wire mesh to give it the rigidity, or a lot of cross-bracing. Look forward to seeing more. Be safe and stay well.
Today's build was awesome young man ! Thank you 👍👍💯 % 🤙
I'm probably too late for this but you could take out the fender bolt and put in a stud for a hiem joint on the end of the prop rod to pivot on,, just a thought, nice work on the top Brent 👍
I'm thinking that you can do a piece of conduit from side to side on your lift bars but put a half moon kind of bend in it to clear the top in the bed. That might work.
Better to have your tonneau hinge and lift forward and rest on your windscreen posts. because your top is going to be a 2 man operation , the only way you will be able to lift it out of the bed will be one man on each side lifting and walking toward the rear of the truck.
Maybe take a look at "Bimini Top" hardware for ideas...pivot ends and sliding stuff
Well thought out.
This truck is really coming together nice!
The main rods that the cover hinges on is wobbly because you don't have any cross brace. If you extend those arms towards the back of the truck past the pivot point, and also don't change the pivot points and make a wheel and track system, each arm will essentially have two mounting points, and take out a whole bunch of wobble. It's an idea.... We try thinking about.
Like where its headed! Very cool
Brent could you brace the pivot points from side to side dianglely to make it more ridged
Hi Brent, I’m thinking bracing on the top pivot should be both sides, but they don’t have to be huge, just a 4” separation at the top may be enough.
Where the rods are hooked to the bed you can make a guide plate to help keep them from wabbling around and stabilize it
Looking Good Brent, look forward to seeing this come together. Be good 👍
How about something like the 57 Ford retractable hardtop? There could be some idea there.
as usual amazing 🥸
DON'T THINK IT WOULD BE BETTER TO OPEN IT FROM THE SIDE, AND THEN YOU CAN OPEN IT LIKE A HOOD, AND USE SOME ROUND ROD TO HOLD IT UP, AND YOU CAN THEN PUT MORE STUFF IN TO IT! - YOU DO YOU! 😊- JUST MY COMMENT ONLY! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK 👍
Love your stuff young man .More please!Flat stock on the side arms won’t twist or wobble on you .
Hi my uncle,
You might be far done with this already and might have the cover working by now, suggestion,
(Your tube welded to the frame and box)
Use 4 heim joints and use stainless tube (instead) and weld heim to said stainless, and include the struts, you know stainless tube will help eliminate the floppy
Just my 2 cent,
Anyway, if you need a foreign buddy hook me up 😂
Have a blessed week.
Ciao Ciao
You like moving parts and like making new stuff more than me , I like the frame but I would build it to raise straight up with a hinged in the front only and install a slide tray for the top to slide out the back with ease, but your truck and you always pull off the unbelievable stuff. Which is why I love watch and following your show. Big fan always
Have your Tonnele cover slide back, then tilt up
Thanks for sharing 😀👍
Gussets in all the corners would really stiffen it up. Could use light 20 ga sheet to make them. Love the concept and execution
i hand bent all the copper lines on my daughters harley. my thumbs were sore for a week after that.
Looks great!!
Happy Wednesday Canada 🇨🇦 😊
I so enjoy watching your fabrication Brent. You seriously make it look simple with a degree of difficulty.
Liking it brent😊
Nice job on the tonneau cover, Jack, RI, USA
Nice idea Brent looks good
Brent your ideas are amazing looks fantastic 🎉
I think that going to work Brent!!
I was screaming conduit bender. Retired electrician.
Another method of tweaking the conduit is put handle of bender on the floor insert conduit and tweak a little.
No bending over.
I like it great idea. Great video.
very exciting enjoyed seeing this Brent
Do another set of bars connecting to your support arms. They can scissor and provide added support
Do gussets on each corner to eliminate the flimsy framework.
Thanks!
