Superb compil! This is one of the greatest 80's works of TPOK Jazz! The two Mario LPs was overshadowed by the colossal hit, Mario. This LP always show intricate sweet sebenes from Papa Noel, most of his acclaim at the time was for his "Bon Samaritan" album, but people forget apart from Franco and Dr. Nico, Papa Noel was one of the guitar leaders of the 3rd generation. The mi-solo guitar from the late Thierry Mantuika is very audible, raw and alive!
Drummer Nado Kakoma brought something different to TPOK Jazz - modernization. The modernization helped TPOK Jazz survived the competition from not just Afrisa, but also Empire Bakuba, Zaiko Langa Langa, Choc Stars and other bands that was dominating Kinshasa at the time.
Vocalist Djodjo Ikomo, from my research, he was big in Orchestre Veve in the early 70's. In the mid 70's, Djodjo and guitarist Roxy Tshimpaka "Niawu" left for Nairobi, Kenya. Nairobi is one of the major music cities in Africa, just like Kinshasa, Abidjan, Johannesburg, Lagos, etc.
Djodjo made a couple LP's with a band called Bana Ngenge, this also had Roxy on lead guitar. Samba Mapangala was one of the major artists that helped spread the Rumba virus in East Africa. In the early 90's, he came back to Kinshasa, joined Empire Bakuba.
Carlyto Lassa was the new kid in TPOK Jazz. Apparently, Carlyto didn't want Franco to play on any his songs, he was primarily a Simaro vocalist. This escalated into beef. Carlyto ran to Choc Stars in 1986 hahaha
Thanks for the comment brother, more compliation is coming soon, hence why Carlyto got suspended from OK Jazz and joined Choc Stars.
Great information
True bro one Love
Carlyto was suspended in OK Jazz, because also he was truly full of pride (a little) with of absences. He was supposed to sing songs of Franco, but this songs were finally sing by Malage De Lugendo. There are several versions of his reason for his suspension like: He was dating a famous female singer in OK Jazz, whose name I don't want to say.
Carlyto Lassa is still alive. He could shed some light on this😂
Amen !
