People don't gradually end friendships because of a big explosive situation. They do so to avoid that situation. I've had people in my life that I hung out with and overtime learned things about them that didn't jive well with me, and I think I let onto it at points in a very subtle way. Once the negatives of having someone in your life start to outweigh the positives, that's when links begin to decouple.

MDE fan of 10+ years. This sort of drift is only possible when one side refuses to reconcile. It doesn’t help that people hound both Sam and Charls every day about who’s in the wrong. It’s not hard for that to confirm your inculpability in your head.
So for those who don't know, somebody asked Sam during a live stream about what happened to Charls and Sam's relationship after World Peace got cancelled, and Sam addresses that here from his perspective. Charls already replied to Sam's comments on the issue in a live stream of his own a few days ago and stated that Sam was falsely claiming that they had just drifted apart after the fallout of the cancellation of WP. Charls claims that Sam was explicitly asked to tone down the anti semitic and antagonistic behavior (by whom, Charls never clarified) or else World Peace Season 2 was going to be cancelled, and Charls further claims that Sam ignored those threats and continued to sabotage the next season anyways. Charls is upset because he and Nick were forced to go back to selling their labor and figure things out whereas Sam was the only one who walked away with financial compensation in the end. Charls also claims that he and Nick wrote a show called AutoMile, and that Adult Swim gave it the green light for a season. Sam had his name on the script (for what reasons IDK, maybe he contributed partially to the writing of the show in a minor capacity), and for some reason said no to the show being released, which further upset Charls as Charls claims he and Nick wrote it and he believes Sam said no out of spite. And to me, it sounds like Charls is telling the truth and Sam just isn't man enough to apologize for taking things too far. But it wouldn't be Sam if he wasn't trying to imitate Andy Kaufman half of the time now would it? Either way, I do hope the boys come to terms and try to connect again. It's an uncomfortable conversation to be had, and unfortunately I don't think they'll have it. Hardly ever do you meet someone who is willing to hash out wounds that go that deep and make the changes necessary to continue the relationship.
To me it sounds like Charls is ascribing a lot of malicious intent on Sam when it's not really the case. He sounds like he's trying to convince himself more than anything. I don't see why Nick would continue to associate with Sam if he really was trying to fuck over everybody else, it seems more like Chuck wasn't prepared for the backlash of being a dissident comedian and doesn't want to come to grips with the fact that he wanted to become apart of an industry that fucked him over, so he blames Sam since that's the only thing that makes sense to him.
Sam seems like the kind of person who doesn't like to get confrontational, because when things get confrontational, he knows he refuses to back down, for better or for worse. I could very easily see Sam being told to "tone it down", and him taking that as a challenge and escalating things even further.
@@retingo7940 idk it can't be THAT bad.. all of the people he has with him now have been around for a while. I think Sam just didn't quite understand the landscape he was treading in when the show was cancelled and thought cowtowing was the wrong move. (which it kind of is.. it was Adult Swim who fucked that part of it up, not Sam.)
Thank you for the clarification. If you don't mind explaining further, why/how did Sam end up with financial compensation instead of the other two? Just by continuing to make content etc., or did he somehow get a payday from WP that Nick and Charls didn't? I had always assumed they all made some season 1 money and then it was up to each of them to either keep making their own stuff or go back to their lives. Really makes me look at Sam differently if what Charls is saying is true.
I think what happened is they pushed mde a little too far knowing what the consequences could be. I remember how shitty it was and the shit sam went through shortly after show was removed, I’m sure effected all the guys just the same. From what I’ve seen charls has just moved on with his life (has a family now) and it sucks but I think it’s good to remember the memories that were made and respect these guys personal lives and relationships outside of the show.
@teeveeman there is nothing to be afraid of the right for. you confused me because you are spouting leftist propaganda while knowing the left is full of shit. the alt right doesn't exist. its just normal people who are done with 'wokeism'. gamergate was the start of all this. they should have just let us play our video games
read somewhere that it was because Charls had a opportunity to tour with a band, had to choose between that and MDE presents world peace, and he chose MDE, after the show got cancelled he felt like he got fucked twice.
It would be really good - and real testament to the work these guys have done and how far and deep it's reached - if fans could hear Sam talk about reaching out to Charls and all collectively agree to treat the situation with grace regardless of the outcome and not sperg out if they don't get their content infusion
All the people in the comments forgetting that MDE, Charls, Nick, would have been less than nothing without Sam. You guys must be too new to remember but Sam (with all of his good and bad qualities) is the only reason MDE ever had a chance. The entire fanbase was built off of his early videos. More people liked Sam’s stupid videos harassing his mother than they did any of those weird films early MDE made, and that’s where the notoriety came from. The notoriety came from Sam’s TedTalk and New York fashion hipster interviews and his anime convention presentation, not anything “””MDE””” did. If Sam fucked it all up for them you can’t blame Sam because those qualities that fucked it up are PRECISELY the qualities that got them all there in the first place. Times change.
Also I’d a million times take a Sam livestream over a Charls livestream. Charls does nothing but sound bitter and talk about Moloch and releases one video a year and expects people to pay for his Gumroad which nobody would know about if it weren’t for Sam. Charls would have never been anything without Sam and you all forget it
The older you get the more some type of stability becomes important. You can take huge risks in your 20's because if things go wrong you have decades to fix it. The way I see it is after WP got canned Charl's just didn't want to deal with Sam's unpredictability and the potential damage it could cause anymore. I like Sam but I wouldn't want my livelihood to be dependent on him and his behaviour in any shape or form.
charles is blaming the wrong person. they NEVER ever would have made it into the spotlight without sam's/MDE's "edginess" or how i like to call it, telling the truth in a funny way
@@911WASanINSIDEjob420 I mean if u look at where they are now, Charles plays it safe and now he just twitch streams and produces low quality content. Sam takes risks and u can see it with everything he does and now he's way more successful. I see the same with my own friends. Those who don't take risks are still back at home living with their parents while the rest of us tried to further our goals. I'd say yes sam was a liability but that was the idea of their work and what got them the huge following today.
I like how Sam drops his mask in a way during the answer. Sounds even a tad bit emotional. No raising of his voice to be funny, or being a stream of vicious consciousness.
Charles cared more about having show looked forward for future life of success. Sam was the one who was targetted by the cancel shit. Charles wasn't. Sam was very stoburn and took stance about not wanting to censor himself and didn't want to bow down. Charles just wanted to write and have successful show. Sam refused to leave and credited himself (not just himself, with others) in every piece MDE member made. This effectively cancelled every piece because Adult swim didn't want anything he made and as he technically was signed everywhere, it was seen as partially made by him. This fucked everyone, it fucked people's lives, working shit jobs, taking years to repair it. IF THIS IS A FAIR ASSEMENT. I admire Sam for making a stance and refusing to get manipulated by pathetic media and execs. However, the fact that he willingly pulled everyone down and ruined their life for his self-righteousness sounds like exactly the person today's Sam warns about and tells you to avoid. A person who willingly prevents you to succeed in order to feel better. Charles doesn't want to come back because this took years off his life, that can't be repaired. And I'm certain Charles won't get bought by Sam, surely he offered him millions already. I hope Sam matured, I think this gave him big lesson. I can't blame Charles for refusing to work with him, just out of self respect. But I do wish they would give it it a second chance, who doesn't. Surely Sam grew.
Has nobody who harps on the Charls thing ever had a friend they just sort of drifted away from? It can come from disagreements that pile up over time or just lack of interest from both people, but it does happen.

Ok, so... the thing about this is... If this was the case, then why is Charls doing the exact same thing? What's his own reason for silence? @@anonymousanonymous-nt8ls He's probably more mad at sam for getting Automile cancelled before it even aired by refusing to sign off on it. Right now we could have 3-4 seasons of MDE inspired shows but we don't because Sam said "No."

Here's what I think happened based on what both Sam and Charles have said. Charles wanted mainstream success. He got a taste of it. Sam blew it up because he refused to water down the message. Sam had numerous opportunities to bend the knee to keep them on television and keep everyone working on the show but refused to play ball because he probably assumed incorrectly that the culture was shifting in a more free speech direction with the Maga movement and he would just continue to get away with pushing the boundaries. Charles Resents Sam for blowing up his career and since having already experienced a level of success on the internet probably just views continuing to produce content for an online audience as going backwards. You guys tell me what you think though.
I think you are right on the money. Sam really thought there was a Paradigm Shift 2016, but MDE became one of the first casualties of the anti-Trump culture war offensive. I don’t think there was any specific action by him that made Charls (and Nick for a while) leave (book deal, IRS accusations), more like the carelessness with which he operated felt like a betrayal. It’s hard to crack jokes and be on the same page when you are doing backbreaking labor and living paycheck to paycheck, when the guy who is responsible for the show’s cancellation is mining Ethereum, rents an office and owns a Japanese drift car, a motorcycle, a pickup truck and has just bought a Porsche.
I take issue with the idea that he didn't cowtow to the people in charge just because the culture shift was moving his way. Even if it wasn't, it would have been done
@@Avengerie Charls and Nick also wrote a show that got greenlit by Adult Swim after WP got cancelled. Sam was on the script, and needed to sign off on it to be made, but he wouldn't. So Charls and Nick had to go back to construction work and selling cars because of Sam. I think that was the last straw for Charls. Sam knew he'd be fine whether WP got cancelled or not, but for Nick and Charls it was their livelihoods. This is all paraphrased from Charls talking about it on stream recently. There's a lot more to the picture than the two just drifting apart.
Idk what happened BUT if I had to guess- Nick worked his ass off trying to land a deal with Adult Swim. Finally happened, nice! Well everyone took it seriously EXCEPT Sam. I mean he did the show, wrote funny stuff, but also he sabotaged it by adding in a bunch of racist imagery including name dropping David Duke in the show. So Adult Swim inevitably cans their show (obviously, are you really gonna give someone who likes racist humor a platform & risk your own network?), and everyone else is probably furious. Imagine working your whole life to get your big break, and then one person sabotages it because they think it's funny. And now you're left without a solid source of income, while the guy who sabotaged it already basically has his own platform & source of income. So yeah I imagine Charls is probably kinda pissed that he had it all set out for him, they were gonna get a huge renewal deal & be the biggest show on Adult Swim for years to come, but Sam seems to have sabotaged it for his own amusement. Probably went behind everyone's backs to do so as well. Charls probably saw the best idea at that point was to cut ties due to how unpredictable Sam is to work with. Can't think of any other explanation tbh.
He says at 4:20 that he's trying to get Charls for World Peace 2, so is the context of this video about him doing this daily content like Sam and Nick are doing?
People will believe whatever they want to. Some people will believe whatever's in the comments of this video, for example. Some people believe sexual assault allegations without any evidence, even if the names and faces are blacked out and no one was ever prosecuted, because they want to believe them. They want a valid reason to hate someone they hate, or they want the "real inside story". For a guy, when you feel like one of your closest guy friends has seriously disrespected you, you don't "patch things up"; he's dead to you. You don't ever give the full story about it because that means possibly bringing that person back into your life to rebut, which is the last thing you want. Costello hated Abbott, who only wanted to patch things up before it was too late. Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin stopped liking each other. Simon & Garfunkel broke up. It's like they say about being in a band with a bunch of other guys; it's like having multiple girlfriends. Everyone's emotional and easily hurt, because they've opened their artistic selves up to each other. Arguments start over the tiniest matters and slightest facial expressions. Drama is inevitable. More often than not, things just don't work out. Eventually everyone goes solo. And you can bet your ass, for the rest of Lou Costello's short life, he was asked a million times why he wouldn't just get back together with Abbott. That's life.
Charls finally addressed it a it more directly. Basically Sam was told to cool it with the alt right stunts and shit, he didn't. Charls blames Sam for the show being cancelled and fucking up his chances at fame and fortune. Probably way more to it than that. I think the fans are just tired of everyone involved being vague and coy about the situation. Just say what it is. Address it and then the fans can move on from pestering Sam and Charls about it.
Oh how sad sam prevented charls from selling out for materialism and fame. You do realize that being famous in this system is like being a famous prostitute right? If anything charls should be thanking sam for not allowing him to be sucked into the nihilistic meaninglessness of hollywood comedian culture.
NO dood that was jonni $$$$ singing his song the long nail bois and ice tea ripped off from him at the end. jim morrisons band has nothing to do wit dis what even
Yea and of course when you hear from Charls it’s a completely different story Sam charls for some reasons truly believes purposely sunk WP 1 and in the aftermath it ruined everyone’s life except sams and to me charls sounds severely paranoid to deal with sam ever again
If you’re warned (and "threatened") that certain behavior is inappropriate and will likely lead to negative side affects for the show down the line, and you do it anyways, it’s just an accident? Read between the lines here. Obviously what Charles was saying was that Sam made the choice to do what he was warned against doing. I’m sure it wasn’t for the sole purpose of getting the show cancelled, but at that point what do you expect? So in a not so round about way, assuming what Charles is saying is true, Sam got the show canned on purpose. Edit: And to clarify, if Charles believes Sam did this to hurt him personally or as some ruse to force him and Nick under Sam's own media umbrella where he has majority control, I'd say that's far fetched. I just think Sam can get out of control; throwing caution to the wind without much forethought, and whether it be for the meme or to get some "important" message out there, it's him making the decision to act in that way. It's partly what makes Sam so funny, but in this case, it appears to have been to the detriment of himself as well as those around him.
@@TopSpeedKertus I actually agree with u 100 percent I personally because I’m not in the situation so my emotions are not involved don’t see what Sam did as some sinister thing that’s completely unforgivable making it impossible for charls to do WP2 but hey what do I know

I don’t really agree with Charls mentality but I think it’s just this. Doesn’t seem like it was some big blow up between MDE like people will presume. I especially don’t understand why Charls acts like he disavows what he did with MDE, acting like he was selling out..ridiculous. I know this clip is about Charls, but does anyone know what happened with Andrew Ruse? I don't think he's worked with Sam since MDE but he directed just about everything before it ended
I don’t know but Andy Ruse used World Peace as a launchpad and probably made a ton of connections which is why he’s now producing Joji videos. MDE sketches were the first good thing he ever did. So he should be thanking Sam every night before he goes to bed
No problem with Charls, but I think Sam and Nick were the main draw. I really liked Erick Hayden too, but there's a chance Erick is coming back. I'm honestly tired of people asking Sam/Nick about Charls. Just move on
People keep bringing up Charls for the sake of it, Charls doesn't like Sam and has changed his content around for years, nobody should want him back because that's how it is. If anything, they should be campaigning for Ruse.
Charles explained it before better then this. He wanted to make content that was more comedy based so they didn’t get cancelled and Sam was more focused on getting a message out there no matter what.
Same fucked up and basically burned too many bridges and Charles is pissed off a bout it and doesn't want to deal with Sam's bullshit. It's that simple.
It is obvious that Sam has his own side regarding what charles said on his stream. To say he is lying here because he dosent want to stir up drama and badmouth Charles is not really accurate IMO.
@@joenelson4629 Charles getting mad heated about it was cringe. I think even if things were good between them, Charls probably wouldn't of been able to drop everything he's doing right now and work with them. Animosity on all sides here. I'm an admitted sam stan but what charls says about this is perfectly believable having watched so much of sams shit over the years. But... it could also be true that charls simply blames sam for the cancellation and is assuming malice when sam may have just been intentionally pushing boundaries as a goal, while charls saw it as a legitimate entry to the entertainment industry that was snuffed out. Alot of the mde fan shit is cringe but the Charls situation is the most, guys it just don't always go good. People part ways for their own reasons, people change and grow or whatever.
The problem is the conflicting testimonies from either side, it's not cringe for people to want clarification. What IS cringe is if they keep begging for it.
Um Nick and Charls would never have gotten MDE on television, never would have built a fanbase, never would have been anything without Sam. MDE fan of 10+ years. This sort of drift is only possible when one side refuses to reconcile. It doesn’t help that people hound both Sam and Charls every day about who’s in the wrong. It’s not hard for that to confirm your inculpability in your head.
New fan what should I check out
So for those who don't know, somebody asked Sam during a live stream about what happened to Charls and Sam's relationship after World Peace got cancelled, and Sam addresses that here from his perspective.
@@at5297 it's pretty obvious to me that Sam is really difficult to work with
@@retingo7940 idk it can't be THAT bad.. all of the people he has with him now have been around for a while.
No one is left from the old days, except for Nick now
"gradually growing apart" is not how Charls describes it lol
I think what happened is they pushed mde a little too far knowing what the consequences could be. I remember how shitty it was and the shit sam went through shortly after show was removed, I’m sure effected all the guys just the same. From what I’ve seen charls has just moved on with his life (has a family now) and it sucks but I think it’s good to remember the memories that were made and respect these guys personal lives and relationships outside of the show.
What consequences?

read somewhere that it was because Charls had a opportunity to tour with a band, had to choose between that and MDE presents world peace, and he chose MDE, after the show got cancelled he felt like he got fucked twice.

Check out the solo Charles live streams he did. Such a funny dood
It can come from disagreements that pile up over time or just lack of interest from both people, but it does happen.
its illogical to me to throw away a relationship that was never broken
Doesn't friendship mean a damn thing anymore?

Sam, I trusted you.

Idk what happened BUT if I had to guess-
Nick worked his ass off trying to land a deal with Adult Swim.
As much as I like Sam this is totally believable 🤣
Edit:
And to clarify, if Charles believes Sam did this to hurt him personally or as some ruse to force him and Nick under Sam's own media umbrella where he has majority control, I'd say that's far fetched.

Even Andy Ruse who never made anything good before MDE sketches like Moms, and who used World Peace connections as a launchpad for his career producing Joji videos. Sam is the only reason people pay for Charls shitty Gumroad where he releases one video a year. You’re all delusional
