This was the 2001 amas. Meaning they're going off the year in music from the year 2000. So going by that, nsync should have won best music group since they owned the year 2000. They were robbed. How the backstreet boys won is beyond me

I understand this is AMA 2001, but I agree to the comment above. Millennium did so well worldwide and Black and Blue set a record as well. When Black and Blue was released in Nov 2000, the dynamics of releasing album changed. It used to be US first then the rest of the world will follow. Black and Blue recorded the best international sales in a week for an album in history by selling over 5 million copies in its first week of sales globally. I wonder if they put this into consideration when they chose the BSB as a winner. Millennium Album sold 1,134,000 copies while No String Attached sold 2.4 million copies. Now, both these numbers are just US sales. Millennium Album ended selling at least 24 million copies worldwide that’s why in 2015, Millennium became one of the best-selling albums of all time. Backstreet Boys was insanely huge in Europe and Asia, but Nsync not much. You can actually check out each album certifications in different regions.

Nicole Beth the 2001 amas were based on the year 2000. nsync was promoting no strings attached by then. nsync hadn't even released the 1st single off celebrity before the 2001 amas.

@@jane_7777 That's because even when Justin Timberlake was still with NSync, its was always about him not NSync as a whole. NSync was always seen as Justin and his backup singers and dancers. Also, he became popular because of his relationship with Britney. He even used his breakup with her as marketing strategy for his solo album. He got songs that are suited for his voice and that would be loved by listeners. I mean, he's better as a solo artist. He just used NSync and his relationship with Britney as a stepping stone to become more popular.
