I LOVE Sarah's unmatched delivery as well. I saw SUPREME Mary Wilson's performance of this with the Duke Ellington Orchestra which Was INDEED SUPREMELY FABULOUS! C. J.
Sarah's interpretation of classics always gives new emphasis to the simplest statements. And as others note, her voice flows like warm honey. Exquisite!
Truly elegant, classy and clearly sophisticated. Oh how Wonderful. These Men don't feel this in our time & day. I would give anything 2 slow dance with a real man on this song many haven't heard it before.😍

Same. I really started listening in my early teens and now I now I realize why I left in the first place. The truth is that I wasn't ready then. What a find Mrs. Sarah is.. so precious that you must prepare yourself to experience her glory.
I Agree! Sarah's Treatment of THIS and ANY song she got her hands inn became an absolutely EXQUISITE "WORK" of Standalone expression! I Saw THE SUPREME MARY WILSON in her production of "Sophisticated Lady" with the Duke Ellington Orchestra when it opened in Ohio. IT TOO was GRAND and she was SUPREME as "Sophie"....THE....Sophisticated Lady!!!!! Beautiful!💖💯💥💥💥
This is the best reindition of this song, that's out there! Sara is hard to beat! She has total control of her voice! The folks, now-a-days could take a lesson from her! This beats Rap all together! ❤
Beats rap? I wouldn’t compare this to any genre. As I wouldn’t compare any genre to this. Nonetheless I agree; this to me is the best rendition of the song as well.
This is so, so beautiful; an exquisite rendering of this wonderfull trio. Warm and smooth singing, precious craftmanship of the background. A masterclass!!
They say into your early life romance came And in this heart of yours burned a flame A flame that flickered one day and died away Then, with disillusion deep in your eyes You learned that fools in love soon grow wise The years have changed you, somehow I see you now Smoking, drinking, never thinking of tomorrow, nonchalant Diamonds shining, dancing, dining with some man in a restaurant Is that all you really want? No, sophisticated lady I know, you miss the love you lost long ago And when nobody is nigh you cry Smoking, drinking, never thinking of tomorrow, nonchalant Diamonds shining, dancing, dining with some man in a restaurant Is that all you really want? No, sophisticated lady I know, you miss the love you lost long ago And when nobody is nigh you cry Sophisticated lady You cry
I was a kid of 12 and I listened to a 10" 78 RPM of Sarah that belonged to an older cousin. At the same time, in the same pile of 78's, I discovered Billie Holiday. That was a very, very long time and I've never swerved in my devotion! Sarah song "Body and Soul," and Billie, "Yesterdays" by Jerome Kern.
When I listen to Sarah Warner's voice singing this interpretation I don't think there's another singer that could pass this version and a warm from that fantastic guitar player and bass player absolute killer version
Yes, my downfall, those sophisticated so-called ladies who sometimes weren't. The sweet sadnesses of life that focus more sharply in my memory as I listen.
Sarah Vaughn, Mundell Lowe (guitar), and George Duvivier (bass), just the three of them, doing what is, essentially, an American Art Song... Can it get any better than this? No.
This is not an easy song to sing by no means and as beautiful as this song is look how many great have even tried to attempt to sing it,so she does it well if not masterfully
Sara Vaughn had to have been born with a classy voice! I haven't heard, even one song, that she has sung, that isn't plumb classy! She has a terrific range and has total control of her voice! She can jump two octives and be right on key. She has the ability to drag a note from phase to another and make it sound plumb classy. There's something about her voice that can enamer your being.
I'm 98, it's the year 2022 and LOVE this song.
❤
Art, with capital A, is A-temporal.
Lol yea right

I am only 94 and it is 2023. I saw Sarah perform once in BIrdland. She was and still is one of the greatest female voices ever!!
Ms Vaughn was an original artist who will always be remembered and alive in our hearts-
Sarah's interpretation of classics always gives new emphasis to the simplest statements. And as others note, her voice flows like warm honey. Exquisite!
I haven't heard a better version. Flows like warm honey.
Mr. Ellington, Miss Vaughan.........this is beyond words. I love music. Thank you,.
Only Miss Vaughn gave the best to one of the best songs ever written. My opinion.
I was 21 when I discovered this music on a double CD I'd bought; Ladies Of Jazz. I've loved this ever since
The Divine One, Sassy . . . Utter class, distinction, and sheer perfection. Ms. Sarah Vaughan truly was and always will be a "Sophisticated Lady" !
