Great vid. Just bought an Adventure model and put a tall VStream, which eliminated 99% of the buffeting. I'm 6'1". I had a '21 Road King and put a Memphis Shades Hot Wing clip on which also eliminated buffeting. Keep up the good work!
Great videos John! Your ins[piring Me, since I own a KLR back in 1994. I never got into the "Adventure thing" , but you are seriously making Me reconsider. Please, keep sharing your review thoughts on any device you try on the KLR! It's nice to see someone who is truly struck with the "KLR Riding Bug!" Happy trekking on your Gen 3 KLR!!!
If I ride conservatively (55-60mph) I recently hit 250 miles and still had .8 gallons left when I filled up. Fuel calculation was 47.6 MPG. This is without side cases on though. If you're doing a lot of highway or have a full load out then expect about 200-220 mile range.
Try leaning your windshield forward to fix the buffeting. Spacers behind the window or what ever. It causes the air to go higher which fixes the buffeting.
Hi John good info. I have the same bike and I'm not sure of your weight or height. I'm 170 lbs and 5'10". I run a soft pack on the back for carrying things and have bumped up compression and added some rebound and the big thing that helped handling believe it or not was to add a Fork Brace. I had my doubts but it did help. I also ordered a new med. VStream. I have IRC pro foot pegs with stock mounts and actually love it with stock mounts. Probably has a bit of give but I think it takes some stress off ankles and feet. Tires I'm running the Bridgestone AK41 but I am not sold on them. High wear and grip in loose dirt isn't good. I live on the Central Coast Ca which is a great riding area but my son lives in Gardnerville NV and you guys have the best dual sport riding areas. Awesome place.
I'd love to just hear the motor running through the gears to compare to mine but nobody on UA-cam can shut up for more than a second or two so I just assume mine sounds like everyone else's.
The more I study the KLR, the more I think: it's a beginner bike. The KLR is great, maybe unless you are a experienced rider. At which point, Kawasaki only offers lots of KLR upgrades. I don't know why I should have to buy a functional windshield, crash bars, fork brace, skid plate, centerstand, oil drain plug, etc. It seems like 1 cyl is much less fuel efficient than 2. So, fine. That still leaves the 800DE, TransAlp, F850GS, MG850TT, etc. My dealer doesn't allow test rides so customers can avoid relying upon opinions. I am seriously interested in buying a KLR, but I don't think I have ever heard more conflicting views on any other bike. Eg: it's good for touring, it's terrible for touring. The vibration isn't so bad, it's so bad that your hands+body go numb. The KLR is the only bike I'll ever need, I will never go back to the KLR. I'd never ride a KLR faster than 50mph, you can ride at 80mph all day long. It burns a cup of oil per tank, it burns no oil. I get 55mpg, I get 40mpg 🤔 The performance seems to be on par with a BMW 310GS. Why? 95mph for both. 75mpg for the 310GS. I really love the simplicity and long term broad support of the KLR. I wonder if 2nd-5th gears could all be extended. It should be much more capable than a 310GS. It seems Kawasaki must not have things dialed in appropriately. When I see KLRs on the highway, cars are always passing them 🙂
Just got mine and have roughly 310 highway miles of the 520 I've put on. No oil loss, handles 90mph forever if winds permit. Definitely not getting 300mpg. The 240mpg stated here seems reasonable. Handles everything I've thrown at it. Vibrates for sure. Three hours and I want a break. And no worries about passing people. Plenty of power for me at 5'10 165. I got an Abs traveler.
It does it all, but you'll be uncomfortable doing most of it. The bike has a certain charm that's for sure and it's a hell of a lot easier to work on that at 310 GS I'd assume. I love mine, but I'd love it more if I had a 2nd faster more capable bike to ride when I want to relax more.
I think a wind shield that come to a v-shape in the middle would possibly make the buffering much better, iam looking at getting klr and I may just try my luck have one custom made or do it myself, I also want under bar mirrors along with after market regular mirrors
Good info about the windshield and the rpm gauge. I have watched all of your klr videos so far. So you got the mid height v stream windshield from 3d cycle parts? How tall are you again sorry?
Does it feel smoother at 75 compared to the Gen 2? Does yours feel buzzy at 75? My gen 2 would make my hands and crotch go numb so I’m curious how the Gen 3 feels now.

Thanks for the advice. I'll mess with it
Nice keep the klr vids coming!

I have 7000 miles on my 22 KLR. I ran it dead empty to fuel and put 5.5 gallons in bone dry. 265 miles. Equates to 48mpg

I get 46 to 52 mpg. Keep the content coming.
Great video. I’m not sure what size windshield to order. How tall are you?

Wondering what tach you added, how easy it was to add? Same wrt tire sensor. is it worth it? Temp came with thermobob, right?
Does it feel smoother at 75 compared to the Gen 2? Does yours feel buzzy at 75? My gen 2 would make my hands and crotch go numb so I’m curious how the Gen 3 feels now.
I'm getting 240 miles per tank on my 2024 KLR before the fuel gauge begins to flash.
You try putting a rubber dampener in the mounting point of the gps?
Sorry if I missed this in a previous video. What Atlas throttle lock is that? Top kit or bottom kit? And how do you like it?
Good ride
Did you install a thermobob?
I’m getting about 47mpg with mine
75 is actually 68 on my bike
LMAO here’s a good suggestion for GPS. Use your phone it’s free.
Did you do the thermobob or just add a temp gauge?
I added the thermobob that came with the temp gauge
@@johnbutler9012 smart man..I recommend you do the doohickey as well..that is the same exact motor as the gen 2 bikes
@@gabrielkopp2036 I already have one, just need to install it
@@johnbutler9012 it's really easy..I did mine on my 2018 gen 2 and also my sons 2015.although on the 2022 you have the speed sensor to remove
Great info would love to know how you go with the doohickey
Torque is way more fun to play with. HP is a top end game.
Klr is real world, short shift fun.
