Can you imagine playing like this at one of the innumerable violin competitions out there today? He’d get the boot after just the first round. Which is more an indication of today’s taste in violin art and less about the genius of this great artist. Long live Ivry!!!
Normally I would be inclined to think that you would be correct. But I do wonder sometimes… You see, his tone is so warm and full-bodied, and his precision when it comes to simply hitting the right notes in tune to me is second to none. And he has such vigor in his playing, and such a unique artistic attitude!!! If you and me can recognize his genius, then surely there must be at least one seat on those judging panels that can as well, right? Hmmm…🤔
@@Tennisisreallyfun There are plenty of violinists who hit the right notes in tune, even more accurately than Gitlis. But I'd rather listen to Gitlis because he has personality. He's not one of these modern perfect robots.
@@stepaushi You have no idea how much I agree with your comment and how much I appreciate that you even notice this. Everyone lauds these young celebrities these days as superstars. You know, your Sarah Chang, Chuan-Yun Lee, etc… But what I hear is a pure technician. Someone who can hit every note, but when it comes to sound, can only hope to produce something cold, hollow, and soulless every time they bang on their poor instruments. There are many violinists, but only a select few are truly great, and Gitlis is certainly one of them!
@@Tennisisreallyfun What on earth are you talking about? If there is one young violinist whose playing is NOT cold, hollow, and soulless it would be Chuan-Yun Li. His warm tone and idiosyncratic interpretations probably come closest to Gitlis out of any modern violinists.
Wow, just wow, it's like he takes the notes, carelessly throws them at his instrument to see what sticks, and hey, guess what, they are "accidentally" all perfect. Now I hate myself.
There are just these great characters who never quite walk in the same plane as everybody else, and who are so damn good you just meet them wherever they are and let them take you places you can't imagine. Glenn Gould was another one of those.
Les artistes viennent sur terre pour nous apporter la joie, Ivry Gitlis nous apporte le bonheur d'atteindre la perfection, lui en jouant merveilleusement et nous en l'écoutant. Chaque note si bien posée nous élève. Annick Vidalot
Jesus marijja...when my violin teacher gave me this music, he played it in half tempo, and I still thought he is mad for thinking I will ever be able to play this :p
Great performer of technique, true; however, a mean spirited charlatan as a person. Listen to him on Hilary Hahn's video on Ginette Neveu making fun of her odd appearance( which she could not help) not her talent which was much greater than Ivry Gitlis who had technique , but not her MAGIC!!!

Ivry is no less than Paganini. I am sure about this after listening to his performance of companella.

There's a guy yawning at 3:10!!!!
Yes, he was obviously not aware of that genius moment he heard...poor guy 🤷
He is like Picasso
S'aproche de lui David Garrett, mais je ne suis sure de ca Un specialist le peut dire La maniere d'aborder les notes s'aproche
Most of the audience look like they want to be somewhere else. Sad.
Half of these views is mine
Gitlis is like a street musician prone to histrionics who impresses only the uninitiated.....
