i always loved 2d animation, it's a shame it's not popular amongst young people, and schools fees are making it almost impossible to learn it the right way.
This was an episode of the classic Disney anthology program that played Sunday nights in those days. Basically they're catering to a crowd that is unfamiliar to the animation process by doing things in a 'user-friendly' manner.
@VinylisNotOrdinary of course this was a tight time for disney with a new studio competitor don bluth (former disney animator) this special was def to promote the black cauldron
Hailey Mills did not get cast as Eilonwy possibly because she couldn't even pronounce the character's name properly. "Oh, was that you? I'm Princess AYE-lanwee." I'm glad Susan Sheridan was cast, she has a very charming voice.
I wish Disney would put shows like this on The Disney Channel today, the stuff they have one nowadays is terrible. I love Hayley Mills, I always thought she was cute, and I love her voice, I just saw her recently on a new story and she still look young, she is a beautiful woman. afterall she played Pollyanna, she will always be her to me! :)
I was gonna say, she was "acting dumb" for the benefit of the Disney Channel audience, which is primarily made up of children who might've not otherwise understood so they had to repeat it several times.
The princess troup is very tired but a huge market for sales.traditional animation is beautiful artform and should always be respected,I do like computer animation done right but it often leads to lifeless crap with hiphop lions & stupid celeberties. The computer is being used, by animators almost compinsating for a lack of skill much like singers who can't without Autotune.......
7:00 LOL! Disney needs to drop the princess trope. No wait, Disney is now basically a dead studio pooping out Nickelodeon quality cruft on their cable networks. Other animation studios should avoid the princess trope... no, they did it anyway and now look what happened to them. No wonder why traditional animation is all but dead in this nation.
Wow, a young Glen Keane! He has always been so great not only as an artist but at explaining and teaching the art. Great program!
You know Haley Mills actually didn't get the part of Eilonwey, it was given to someone else. Kinda sad cuz I love her and I love that movie
Thank for uploading this on youtube. Really enjoyed it
wow i never seen this special, pretty cool! Thanks for the upload!
Young Glen Keeeeeeane! I loove his work!!

Is it possible that this special served as the inspiration for the Disney Family Album? That was a miniseries on The Disney Channel in 1984.
The sneak peek behind the making of "The Black Cauldron" in the works was because Hayley Mills was originally supposed to voice Eilonwy.
Glen looks so young!!
The three men at 6:58 are Rick Rich, Ted Berman and Joe Hale.
HOLY CRAP GLEN KEANE SO YOUNG!!!

Sheesh, Miss Mills, it's not rocket science.
not here for the hayley hate in the comments from 10 years ago 😪😪
3:24 Blond moment!
How is it pronounce, anyway? I've never seen the movie and just by looking at the name, I would also pronounce it AYE-lanwee.

You do know It is an act, right.
wow, they really wanted to make a blonde look dumb.
i have to disagree with you in that one.
I've always found Hayley Mills incredibly irritating. Worth it for the other interviews though. ;)
Donald don't put up wit no blond
