Most millennials do not know the history of this song. Nigeria was hit by a serious drought in 1988. When this song came out in August 1988, and hit the airwaves, the heavens opened and torrential rains as had never happened before fell all over Nigeria, even in the core Northern states where rainfall was sparse. Very spiritual song. Majek was a great musician whose songs came from heaven itself. Sad to see how his life ended.
I got turned onto Majek by happenstance. Saw Spirit of Love cassette on the used rack at a local store back in like 1994. Picked it up, popped it in and was simply transported. Every song a jewel musically and spirtually. I'm Not Tired brings me to tears literally every time I hear it still. His passing so young is a tragedy to be sure, but so it is sometimes with the brighest fires. They burn hot and warm so much but die out too soon.
I remember listening to his song in the 80's as a little girl. I just read from the comments section that, this song was a passionate plea to God to send rain because there was a drought in Nigeria at the time, and immediately the rain fell like never before. If this is correct, then God really listened to this man pleas. May he rest on in Musical Heaven. #Legend🙏🏻
