Also great music from Herman Stein, the lesser know of the 2 main composers, (everyone knows the Great John Williams). Stein wrote the great alien sounding music for The Derelict, and also the beloved “Family” theme. He also wrote new music for “There Were Giants in the Earth”, (Dr Smith even got his theme music here, when goofing off and pretending to work), and also music for “Hello Stranger”. At this point, they were mixing and reusing Williams’ and Stein’s music together to great effect!

The Dark Angel I first enjoyed it on WKBD ch.50 in Pontiac MI, a northern suburb of Detroit from 1975-79. It was only run from Memorial Day to Labor Day and was a big part of my summer vacation, from 3-4pm. I'm 48 now and have always been a fan of this wonderfully campy show!

I’m from Detroit as well and remember ch. 50. My mom wouldn’t allow me to watch the show when I was 4, she thought it would give me bad dreams. I could only watch in the 70’s. I used to draw the ship all the time. If I was told back then that one day I’d meet Bill Mumy, and actually get to know him a bit, I would have said you were crazy. But that’s exactly what happened to me in the mid 80’s. I worked at a high end restaurant in Birmingham then. One day the owner told me his brother in law was visiting, and would be coming in for dinner. I asked why he was in town. He answered “he’s attending a sci fi show” “he was an actor when he was a boy. Maybe you’ve heard of him. His name is Bill Mumy”. I almost passed out. I couldn’t believe I was going to meet Will Robinson, my childhood hero. He arrived for dinner and I was assigned his table. He couldn’t have been nicer. Very friendly. I told him I was a long time fan and how happy I was to meet him. He and I talked a bit about the show, but I didn’t want to intrude too much. Over the next few years, he came into town every so often. He always remembered my name and asked for me to wait on him. He once asked if I still watched the show. I told him I didn’t have cable, and hadn’t seen it since I was young. He asked what was my favorite episode. We talked a bit about it. Several weeks later a package arrived at my house. It was from California. I opened it, and in it was a VHS cassette. There was an autographed 8x10 as well. He wrote “Have fun John”. The tape had my favorite episode, his favorite episode, and the pilot. I was so flattered and was over the moon. I still have the tape with his hand writing on it. We lost touch after I left the restaurant, but I’ll always remember the few years I got to know my hero, Will Robinson.

@@theophilusthistle1988 yes, they got it right at the very beginning, stating the journey would take over 5 years. Then they go into a “hyperdrive” for less than 5 minutes, and suddenly are less than a day away from a habitable planet! They show the planet, but never mention that they traveled and found another star. AC was supposed to be the closest Star! Irwin Allen had no patience for scientific facts! Anyway, it was a pretty good first season, before descending into a campy clown show comedy! Season 3 was a little better as a kid, since I loved seeing the Jupiter 2 in space again! But here, any concept of fuel consumption was thrown out! They could land on a planet, take off, go back to Earth, take off immediately, go BACK to the previous planet, take off AGAIN, and continue cruising around “lost”? Wait, didn’t they just find the way back?? Seriously, I know you can’t apply any logic and science to this show, (even in the first season), with “burning hot comets”, and mentions that they left the galaxy! People in general had no idea, but it was already pretty well known this could not be done, even traveling the speed of light!

The first season though had some great writing and story ideas, like the first few on the planet when they have to leave in the Chariot because of the climate change the episodes about the journey to save the family had some great emotion and sci-fi! The episodes like Mr. Nobody was so trippy when Penny gets pulled into the alternate dimension, the one where will uses the matter transport machine left by the mute aliens, another great episode, and Will goes back to earth to get medicine for Penny, if they could have kept that tone and the stupid suits hadn’t ruined it to compete with Gillian’s Island and made it more comical and drove Irwin Allen into the shadows he was so pissed off giving into them later.

I'd have hoped that with Irwin Allen's passing, the 'restrictions' he'd put in continuing or reimagining LiS would've ended.
I don't know which of you have ever read the comic books written by Billy Mumy, but, I thought they were wonderful, and showed us a 'what if.'
As Mr. Mumy has said how his attempts to re-boot the series whilst Mr. Allen was alive fell in deaf ears, it's still sad how in this day - with the WONDERFUL Battlestar Galactica's re-imagining by Ronald D.
Moore as a perfect example of taking something and bringing new life to it, still is not something which has been discussed much.
While I love the entire series, it's fair to say the seriousness of LiS's 1st year gave way to campiness, it's those first year plot threads which could be picked up.
Here is but one example of how the LiS fan base shows how POSSIBLE it is to revive ths series (@hamiltonpl; very nice touches of updating Maureen, Penny, Judy, & a grownup - hunky -Will)
I HOPE one day - SOON - it WILL happen.

Why does it always look like the Jupiter 2 is going 35 in a 45 mile an hour zone?

Easy to explain this. See, Major West got word that the PA Police set-up D.U.I. checkpoints in Outer Space. He's just giving one-less reason for a pull-over.

Please let me congratulate you on your very fine LIS video. You have won a venezuelan LIS fan this side. I can only hope you continue adapting both old and new stories in this format. Can't wait for next presentation. :-)

Where did they store the bus on tank tracks in the Jupiter 2 ? The ship didn't look like it was anywhere near big enough. TV I guess.

That's really well done Phil! I love the way you integrated the colour shots of the brain set from Fantastic Voyage. They fit really well (considering that it was used in LiS anyway). Season 1 was always my favourite. Hope to see some more from you.
