New fan here! Holy cow Carly worked really hard to get where shes at. Good interview but expounding on her comment about women in country; i think the reason why we didnt hear alot of women on the radio between like 2012-2016 was because the sound honestly sucked. It was just a bunch of dixieland barbies going in with the same whiny overly done country singing voice singing about sitting in trucks with guys & finding their country summer love. That gets old very very quickly. Especially when its not genuine. When Kasey came on to the scene, it was amazing bc she was this songwriter who wrote reaaallly authenticity & cleverly. And she was writing about more than just being someone’s girlfriend and actually remembering that she has dimension, different sides of her, a voice to speak, different aspects of being a woman. She didnt put hereelf in a box. Similar to Dolly Parton or Taylor Swift. And she just so happens to be very pretty. Then Kelsey, then Carly, then ashley McBryde, theeen all these people. It just started hetting genuine again. People are so tired of the barbie doll who reminisces riding down some dirt road lol. No wonder the record labels didnt want to give them a chance. So i get tired of women saying “meehh we didnt have a chance.” Ok then dont suck lol. Be genuine. It’s not always because you’re a woman. Sometimes it is, but sometimes it’s not..
