    I have all kinds of disturbing dreams. I don't want to control them. I just want them to go away. I need peaceful sleep in order to stop being in so much pain. I often wake from disturbing dreams in terrible pain that I can't shake for an entire day.
    I don't doubt the ability of some people to lucid dream. I'm skeptical that everyone can do that.
    People are different. I don't have normal vision. Back in the eighties and nineties there was a popular form of art that consisted of a colored gradient and a bunch of little colored spots. For people with normal vision, the secret to seeing the real image was to focus on infinity while looking at the image. For people with normal vision, the brain would take the image from each eye and combine that into a single image. That single image would be a drawing of some kind. In the same way, I can't view 3D movies. Those movies depend on the brain being able to put together the images. My vision disability prevents that. I see all red or all green through those glasses. I never see the three-dimensional part of the movie. Some people have perfect pitch. Other people are tone deaf. People who are tone deaf simply can't hear what others can hear.
    Occasionally, I realize that I'm in a dream. When that happens, I wake up immediately. When I was a kid, there was a popular bit of misinformation that if someone dies in a dream that person will die in real life. I've had dreams where I died. I realized that I was dead. Then, I realized that everything was too dark for me to be in one place and not hot enough to be in another place. Therefore, I couldn't really be dead. I realized that I was dreaming and woke up. I've told myself that I would try lucid dreaming when I next realized that I was in a dream. Instead, I just wake up.
    If I could take a magic pill, I would take one that would put me back in time to when my health first failed and would prevent my health from failing. That would allow me to have continued my career. At this point, I've been out too long to go back even if I were healthy.
    If that pill weren't available, I would be glad to take a pill that would make me invincible in a fight, particularly a gunfight. That doesn't mean that I'd stop training. I think training is good for me mentally and emotionally. Granted, I'm not healthy enough to train in ways that guys like you would consider serious training. I do what I can. I learn what I can. I incorporate what I can into what I do.

      Brother, I know you haven’t asked for help or advice, and I don’t want to be the guy who rushes into someone else’s situation with up-front answers. But you seem to be having some serious difficulties, and I have one suggestion that’s easy to try and could bring some improvement. It’s this: get a sleep study done, so you know if you have any degree of obstructive sleep apnoea. Troubled dreams can be a message that the body and brain are in genuine danger from lack of oxygen. So please consider finding out if apnoea is part of your problem. Beyond that, there are avenues you could explore such as hypnotherapy and talking to a sleep psychologist. Just start with a sleep study (which can be done at home or in a clinic). You need and deserve good restful sleep - I hope you find it.

    • @VTPSTTU
      @VTPSTTU 2 місяці тому

      @@Justins_shed Thanks for the reply. Your idea is excellent. Unfortunately, I've had sleep studies done and apnea is at most a very minor problem. I even went so far as to buy my own equipment to do my own ongoing studies. I've talked to doctors and done some reading so that I would know how to interpret what I was finding. Maybe once or twice a year, I'll have allergy issues that become severe enough that I develop real apnea. When that happens, I become painfully aware of everything you are saying. Otherwise, apnea isn't the problem. I had done a study with the Mayo Clinic and showed previous results to their sleep team. The person who was reviewing my case agreed that I might occasionally have a little bit of apnea but my major problems are not related to apnea. Again, you had a great idea, and I thank you for that.

    Shane, I have always thought it was INSANE how people talk about these athletes or combat sports in general on the internet. For reference, I am a new fan of combat sports. I had seen a few mgregor ppvs over the years but it never clicked for me until about a year ago watching the ufc. I became obsessed. I used to think mma was just a bunch of meatheads slugging it out. I was blown away at the skill and discipline of these athletes and how they deal not only with the constant rigors of training and fighting, but also cutting their teeth in arguably the most ruthless entertainment industry on earth. You are potentially beating another human being within an inch of their life, or possibly facing the same outcome yourself literally every single time you step into the octagon. I am still trying to wrap my head around how insane that is. I could never imagine trashing someone who has done that at any level. And it's not like it's a good path to get rich either. Big names in the ufc who millions of people clown on twitter just to make themselves feel better probably make the same amount as me working a normal job. And they choose to pursue making a living in one of the most raw and merciless professions imaginable. And think about all the amazing athletes who fight at lower levels, facing the EXACT same potential consequences almost every time with no guarantee of any reward at all. To me, thats just the ultimate respect. I was so moved by what I observed from these athletes, as well as people such as yourself Shane, that I changed my entire life over the past year getting back in shape and even started training boxing so that I could better understand and appreciate martial arts. Seeing the way people talk about this stuff on the internet was quite literally the straw that broke the camels back for me. I am luckily to have a ton of awesome gyms in my area that are all filled with active fighters and even some ex ufc guys. Right now I just train at a local boxing gym down the street mostly working with a coach doing bag/ pad work but I want to get a little more serious and do some light sparring with the mma guys once I feel a little more ready. I'm a little nervous to take that jump not gonna lie lol. I am primarily training for fitness, discipline and in some aspects confidence and self defense. But in any case, thank you for all of your amazing tips and insights Shane. You are a perfect representation of martial arts and the respect they command.

    I don't lucid dream, however, I believe the majority of my dreams are centered around martial arts, and I am a very lucid person. I constantly think about martial arts, practicing martial arts, refining my form for techniques I have never employed. I have never practiced any martial art formally other than boxing and wrestling my friends, but for some reason I just know that I am capable of outmaneuver just about fighter. I don't know if it's a possibility for there to be a "greatest" martial artist, perhaps I have no idea where to start defining that, but I am going to be at the top of mixed martial arts. I'm not cocky. I just know. I understand it all. I won't let myself stand in the way of reaching my dreams. The only thing stopping me is that there's nowhere to train near me, and I don't have the transportation to get to a gym. At the moment my plan is to simply begin taking any amateur or professional MMA match I can get and proving myself.

    i personally think that face to face no one would be saying the crazy things they say online but i also believe that people wouldn't answer with violence even if someone was to say something unhinged. people in general are not super confrontational and they usually want peace and to be liked. the anonymity of the internet, the lack of any consequences and i don't mean getting punched but even a small thing like seeing someone's eyes get sad when you insult them, in combination with society in general turning in a more selfish and careless place (as a product of late stage capitalism) have lead to this type of toxic behavior.
    as for the lucid dreaming, personally i find myself having the best ideas, clearest or deepest thoughts at the moment where i lay to sleep, where i'm between asleep and awake. i have been processing stuff that way since forever but when i manage to fall asleep i can't consciously keep doing that. as a matter of fact i have the opposite happen, meaning that when i realize i'm asleep and try to do something about it, i simply can't. i think that's basically sleep paralysis. this is not coming from a scientific point of view or even from someone who's done even the minimum research on this but i would personally not mess with my sleep. i think doing the work while awake is more than enough and when you fall asleep the best work you can do is rest.
    btw i'm doing all sort of head movement while typing this, so try me b*tch 😜😂

    I always think it's fascinating how the 'hands look weird in a dream' thing matches with AI-generated images, which are also usually spottable because of the hands being weird in some way. What is it with hands that imaging them properly is so difficult?
    Anyway, lucid dreaming is a great way of training, although I have to admit I usually just use it as a godmode simulator for myself.

    *..Holds mouth guard while saying that 1 tip that's gunna win them a street fight..* .... maybe I should bring a mouthguard if I think I could end up in a street fight! Lol... "Let's gooo!" *..slaps in Mouth guard..* I mean... that would give a big advantage towards not getting knocked out!! I would be leary of a guy with a mouth guard ready for the draw.

    Ahh, the Castañeda method for Dreaming practices. I never take lucid dreaming advice from a clean-shaven man over 30.

    Lots of people leaving hate just want to get a rise out of someone else to feel more powerful for a tiny moment. Don't let it get to you. If ypu could punch through the phone, the ones who still commented would probably be dangerous people looking for actual conflict.
