Kind of like the mystery oil leak I had in my truck. Oil started leaking from around the drain plug nut, 2 months and almost 2500 miles after the last oil change.
Still can't figure that one out.
Regardless, since the 4.3 v6 Vortec's oil pan removal procedure is enough to make a grown man cry, I am still using temporary plugs. Have had zero issues with them.

I have an almost identical Chrysler Grand Voyager SE with 205,XXX miles on it. The van was owned by my grandmother since new, but the cooling fan had allegedly broke. She then just parked it, so it had been sitting since sometime in 2012; she had offered the van to me a few times as she called it an "Sye Sore." A few months ago I decided to see if it would start on the "varnish" it had in its gas tank. I gave it a jump and it amazingly started almost right up. I then finally took he up on her offer and that night I changed the oil, coolant, and found that the cooling fan seemed to have been unplugged. After plugging it back in, the fan started right up and seemed to work fine. I wonder if some crooked mechanics worked on it or something? Since ahe lives in the middle of nowhere they don't salt the roads near her, so the undercarrage is amazing for an old Illinoia car (A hell of a lot better than my Suburban).

I am still shocked that this 3.3 failed in that fashion. As well as you maintain your cars, that sludge is also troubling.

Having a major engine issue is a pain in the butt. My dad's old 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme SL lost all gaskets because the nimrods at Uncle Ed's Oil Shoppe didn't read the fine print on the coolant and radiator cap saying DEX-COOL ONLY and they put in the green coolant. The car lasted 5-7 months and the motor died at 117,500 miles in November of 2005. He sold the car to the local mechanics and they fixed up the car and got sold in 2011 and might be somewhere in the scrapyard by now.

Switching from Dex-Cool to the green stuff didn't kill that engine. Many people, myself included, have done that switch and with good reason. Dex-Cool is infamous for eating gaskets, especially in the first engines to have used it.

@@uxwbill yeah. Well something broke the engine and there was oil in the engine and enough coolant in the tank. Not sure if the 3.1L V6 engines were notorious for blowing engines.

I counted the van, Honda and the trusty red rocket.
I finally got to watch the last part of the vid and with that sludge and broken piston, that engine is finished, imo.
Wonder if a valve broke the piston or something else?

This happend to my Grand Voyager last year.. But in my case the little ring of metall did not fell into the oil pan. I parked the car in the garage. Next morning i was going to fill the washer tank up. The car was running and of course with the hood open. And suddenly the little ring popped off and almost cracked the windshield. Glad i didn't get it in my forehead. I waited for a week to get a new ring like that. But its not very hard to fix if you got a new ring. ( Sorry for bad english )

Indeed I have! :-)) That is just incredible. Your mother had been complaining about a tick in the top end, right? I don't know if that would have anything to do with how it failed though.
Unless it was overheated at any point, I can't think about what could have compromised the integrity of that piston. If you do wind up tearing that thing apart, it might be worth taking a look at the other pistons and seeing if they are showing signs of having the same type of damage.

I hope that there is a part 2!. What a shame, it has almost made 200000. Id love to hear this thing run again and not put it down. That is a freaken lot of sludge for Mobil 1! What did you say about the transmission cooler lines? I'm kind of
foggy on what you said there.

Anyways I'll be looking out for the continuin development.. seems in good shape other ways :) By the way, you make really entertaining videos... keep that up will'ya :)

@uxwbill Just junk the van unless its body and suspension is worth a new or rebuilt engine. You could also just part it out using ebay. Chrysler 3.3 and 3.8L engines usually hold up well like GM's 3.8L.

The 3.3 is supposed to be the good engine, my family has owned 3 chrysler products with the 3.3 and all have made it past 250K miles, our newest and current 3.3, which is also the newest car in the family fleet by 5 years, is still running after 285K miles, how a 2010 Grand Caravan has held up this long with that many miles is beyond me, though it's a commuter car, doesn't drive more than 100 miles in a day, my old Grand Marquis gets all the miles put on it, but that's because it's only got 218K miles on it
