We did this on my father's and neighbors farms back in the 70's and 80's with great success locating old water lines between wells and pump stations, and for placing new lines too...
I'm in sewer and water industry ,In the 80's a fella I worked with showed me this method to water or under ground pipes , I was using this method all my life ,my kids still think I'm nuts. Tech stuff is great but old school will never die . Cheers from Toronto
Video trickery. We all know dowsing is fake. I’ve now lost all respect for you. 😂 We had irrigation ran last year and I marked the underground cable and internet lines for the landscaper using dowsing. He couldn’t believe it.
I agree this method works well with practice. Is it absolutely perfect? No. Is it much much better than chance with practice? YES ! Does it make any sense to my scientific based mind? NO ! Just a couple things that I have found in my 40+ years of using this method. The biggest key is to concentrate on exactly what you are looking for as it will help limit false positives. Concentrating can also help find depth, material, flow direction etc. & water quality/quantity. It has been said by old timers that you can only find water but you can find anything you concentrate on. Even as said in comments disturbed earth in trenches. I have located & predicted several wells, located every type of buried line, structure, communication lines, septic tanks & beds, rebar, differentiated between suction & return pool lines. I have found old abandoned lines on my property as well as old fence lines that had no evidence of being there. I traced a water line that had been installed 80 years ago for almost 1 mile & found it was sourced in a spring with a gravel collection bed in back of a farm that was fully overgrown & buried so no trace on the topography . We verified by digging down a little & found crushed stone where there should have been none. I have taught many people & when my daughter was 12 we doused a well independently on a farm & marked the same spot. Well drilled to depth indicated & flow was as indicated. 4 other wells on property drilled over span of 60 years had not produced significant flow & the seasoned well driller was skeptical to say the least as we marked within 100-150 yards of the other wells. He had to call & let me know as soon as he had proved the well that it was exactly as we had predicted ! He was still skeptical but would call when ever a homeowner asked about dousing. Also the "mark" is right under the instep of your feet. When you get good you can almost feel a tingle in that spot of your foot. The rods are nothing more than indicators & anything can be used. I have heard of balancing shovel in hand until it points down, also classic Water Willow y branch , pendulum method etc.
We did this at College , back in 1963 /64 . Trainee Gastitters , we had to use 1/8 Welding rods , bent at 90 Degrees , and walk down the Road searching for Gas and Water lines . It does work .

Dowsing is a good example of how humans can convince themselves of anything if they believe it hard enough.
"There are more things in Heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreampt of in your philosophy." Quarks, bosons, dark matter, Angels.. Just saying.
I use it very frequently in my job. It works for sure!
Best way to find underground utilities is to not call Miss Dig. Or to call Miss Dig. Both work.
One of my old foreman’s 20+ years ago used the copper method on a job once..I was thinking “what in the harry potter is going on around here?”😂
I use copper, aluminum, or galvanized. They all work the same. They help you find each side of a trench.
It makes sense the copper rods would interact with the electromotive field. I don’t understand how this works for finding water, seems a bit hokey.
Cool. I've seen this done for wells but not utility locates. Thanks!
As a locator, I approve this message. Although this will get you fired on the spot.

Video trickery indeed! The very idea!🤣🤣
My grandfather showed me this years ago.
Heck yea it works for man digging in his yard and just needs to be close enough.

I like the witch doctor. Smart man. My idol LOL
Dang.
Had to watch twice.
Might have try this.
Have done this many times with success in the fence business the old timers were pretty smart.
My grandfather, mother and brother can witch wells. I can not. I don't care if anyone believes me but I do want them to have a good dang day.

Done it and works pretty good. Better than nothing at all.
It's worked for me for two years, and I still don't know why.
It worked well on Gilligan's Island.
