Oh and another takeaway, if you use a drone for commercial work, you need to be part107 certified. Commercial work includes social media like UA-cam if you plan to make an income off of that. I watched a video about this last May and then purchased the Part 107 Course sso.teachable.... I studied and learned for 1 month and then took my test. I scored a 95%, which is a testament to how good Greg and the crew over there teach. That link will save you $100 off the course and support this channel.

I'm and architect and visit job sites to monitor progress, answer questions, etc. One international general contractor requires a few upgrades to my usual hard hat and high-viz vest: footwear with ankle-high protection (so I wear my safety-toe mud boots there), safety glasses with side shields, and cut-resistant gloves. I appreciate the reminder of the writing material for safety rules.
Hey Tim your videos are AWESOME and so is the work your Team does. I have worked on the industrial side for a big bunch of years and the things you described are all non-negotiable. But, as I am planning to build a house of my own as the GC, I have watched more You Tube videos than I would like to admit and continue to see a lack of respect for safety practices and PPE. None of us ever get hurt - until we do. Please continue to publish fantastic content for guys like me who need to see it and stay safe out there. PS it was nice to see you tie off the ladder - you are welcome at my build in Chattanooga any day.
Tim and team, I love your content! Thank you! I have a small company in West Virginia. Safety is really something you have to discuss with the guys every day. I'm a lifelong athlete (alpine climber) and so keeping our bodies healthy is something I also echo to my guys. We go with a permanent D ring at the ridge nailed to blocking. We usually put one in every 20' or so. We just spray paint to the shingle color. It can go on while we are sheathing and stays on. We usually have a rope hanging until punch. It can actually be a selling point for some people. I don't think we've ever had a complaint from a client and I show them how to use a painters pole to connect a rope to it and how to retrieve the rope when you're done so they can do their own gutters safely, etc. Hopefully the next contractor appreciates it too. All houses need Maintenance.
Awesome!
We have the roofers add permanent anchors 👍
I definitely wish my roof had permanent anchors and that would definitely be a selling point for me. With solar and everything else, being able to safely anchor to the roof would be awesome
@@toddjasper1 they aren't expensive to have a roofer come out and install. It's worth it 👍
@@AwesomeFramers the next time I have a roofer out, I’ll definitely ask, thanks for the idea!
Gloves and sunblock. A fresh clean set of well fitting (even assembly gloves for those like me who don't like the reduced dexterity and tactile of gloves; like watch a BMW engine production plant video and see their stylez) gloves are pretty inexpensive and do help quite a bit with splinters and etc, as well as keeping your hands pretty clean. Sunblock doesn't have to be chemical, you'll notice my guy Awesome wearing long sleeve shirts in every video (hardhat is also shade for your neck and high spots of your face). Top Tim!

In New Zealand we have to use scaffold edge protection for most roof work. Fall restraint is only ok where scaffold can’t practicably be used or the work is only happening for a short controlled period of time. Always find it interesting watching American content and hardly ever seeing scaffold
There’s scaffold everywhere except in residential construction where the industry is extremely unregulated and any schmuck can do the truck. Allows for a lot of scum driving around soliciting.
This is a good video. People have weird bravado around PPE and it gets so often taken advantage of by unscrupulous employers. When you meet someone who's 30 and already losing their hearing, that's not cool. The Hyspecs ship free to the UK if you buy 3pairs, so think I will get them next time.
Your comment of "All Safety Rules are written in Blood!" really hit home. It should be n BIG RED LETTERS on all job sites. I have worn safety shoes for years because I worked in an industrial complex. We even had dress shoes that had safety toes because if we were visiting a customer's site and wore "business casual" dress, we had to have safety shoes on to go into the work area.
Yeah, that's quite a line. My cousin, who used to work with us, learned that working for a mining company.
I get what you’re saying about hearing protection. I have Apple AirPods Pro 2 and they’ve been tested at 24dB reduction. They are NOT rated as ear protection.
If I was on a job site, 100% the Isotunes or similar would be in my ear holes.
I’m doing my own project and can vouch 100% that the AP Pro 2 have some very effective sound reduction. Nail guns, impact drivers, saws, generators are all MUCH lower sound wearing these.
Note, the Pro model seals into the ear canal, the other models do not and would offer next to zero protection. The Pro 1 seals in as well, but the noise reduction is much less effective compared to the Pro 2.
I bring a battery powered leaf blower up. As you mentioned, some debris can cause slippage. Sliding on an inclined surface ain’t fun (unless you’re snowboarding/skiing in the mountains).
Can you guys do a video on workwear for summer weather? Interested on how you guys beat the heat when it gets super hoy outside. Love your content, keep up the good work.
I highly recommend Truewerk Cloud shirt and shorts as well as the Sun Hoodies

Are you hiring? Thank you for sharing all this safety stuff.👍👍👍
The hearing protection is really interesting.
I’m a newbie building my own house. I bought my own roofer’s harness kit. 8:12 sucks - it’s slippery!
So I have no experience WRT tripping on ropes, but I did step backwards onto mine. I was on my @$$ pretty quick.
Despite that I’m still darn glad I was wearing a harness. A half hour later I slipped on sawdust.
I’m not relaxed up there yet, but I simply wouldn’t go up there without tying off.
If you’re cutting sheathing up on the roof, I highly recommend getting a cordless compact job site blower to blow sawdust off the roof
@@hmtrimworks7148 I was up there with my Makita blower blowing the roof clean the day after the crew sheathed it, when I slipped on sawdust. There must have been a heavy dew or light rain that made some sawdust stick. Slippery stuff!!!
Please get educated on fall protection before using. You could be falsely relying on something being used incorrectly. These really are life safety issues. No Guessing in their use
@@TheBuilderdad agreed 100%!!! I got fall arrest training at work so I’m pretty familiar with the concepts and making sure the lanyard is properly specified etc. I made sure my harness was correct before buying. 👍
Nice video grate message, you forgot respiratory PPE, you can wash dust off your hands but you can’t ever wash off (out) your lungs.
#BringBackAlderaan hahaha love it🤙🏼😂
Nice video. You mentioned a "fist man up" rule. Can you provide a reference or more detail.
Thanks. Google "First man up rule" for more references

What was the ladder tie off strap?? 12:22
Great Video. and it's great that you are getting the word out. I have a safety video coming out soon on my channel. Falls account for 350 deaths per year in our industry. With your video, I hope more and more construction workers and companies take notice and get the protection needed.
Petzel makes a great swivel so your rope doesn't get twisted
I’m old- I’d forgotten that the turn signal in the truck makes a sound by the time I got hearing aids…
Carhartt FR jackets, the ones we get issued are terrible
Do you move the ridge anchor point or have multiples?
multiples.
(Fall protection) if you ware fall protection you need they plan to be rescued. After 15 minutes of hanging you will start losing body parts. This information comes from my PG&E tower training . Losing your legs if you're only two feet off the ground is not a good thing. Carry that shape knife😎
Sala harnesses have little stirrup-type ropes that you can deploy if you are awaiting rescue from an arrested fall. You place your feet in them after the fall is arrested, and use them to "stand" and take the weight off the leg straps.
Spend the extra money and get a suspension or rope access harness. Stirrup straps are no good if your unconscious.
Whaaat?
Only cockwombles say no to use necessary PPE, still: employer is responsible for organizing the workplace to minimize the need for PPE
Good to see that you have changed your mind about using PPE
hearing and eye protection mandatory since 2000. Hard hats as needed. Fall protection since 2018
Who wears a hard hat on a roof.
Well this is more of a health issue. But in Texas I like to wear personal fans for when Temps start to go over 100 degrees
