I realized i was growing old when i started making excuses not to go out and just chill at home. I use to be very social in my 20s but when i hit 33 something changed. I prefer smaller groups of people and just hanging with longtime friends and family. Hanging and conversing with strangers aint it. Lifes too short
Last month, I was doing my lil' 3 mile jog and for the first time, I was kinda winded. Nah, I've been doing this jog since I was in middle school and never had a problem. Anyhow, a lot swirled through my mind as I was winded. I thought I done fell off. I thought I needed to go to the hospital. I thought... am I getting old? My tastes in music kinda dates me because I do not listen to current music whatsoever. My lil' cousins and my friends' kids be listening to the new "artists" and I be tryna go along w/ it, but MAN! Honestly, family, I don't be wanting to hear all that ol' boom boom because it make me nervous. Imagine being at a lil' function and all you hear is trap and auto-tune. It's legit torture. I do not mind being called "auntie." I'm typically the big sis, but auntie is coo'.
LaChele, you had me laughing when you said "I was kinda winded" now THAT is early Mama speak right there. and it is funny. my father was telling me the other day that people stop checking for new music by age 27-30 so you might have gradually stopped at some point in your mid 20s because you no longer had time or energy to sit thru new tracks so you keep what you have. you will find that this progresses to TV shows and at some point you'll only grab newspaper to read. we reach an age where we just do not have time ( in hours ) to check for new stuff because our minds is constantly occupied with everything around us. the one thing about getting older no one talks about is the fact that it gets difficult to find a good eating establishment past age 35 . i only found out because my father noticed that i was picky about menu because i did not want digestion to interfere with working hours and THAT is a feature of older age.

By 27, we have enough music stored away in our memory banks for a lifetime. The enthusiasm I had for music ended around 2007. Kinda early on, but eh. Music just wasn't fun no more. I cook at home and have not eaten in that cafeteria in years (2018).

Auntie does not translate well the same way Uncle does because it reads "mamie". when i am south africa , all the teens call me Malume ( Uncle ) or Nthate ( elder ) i remember being called that at age 25 already so i kind of had to adjust to it before having grey hair . i mean i have albinism so i am not gone get grey hair but i have brown moles that i keep lasering off because of risk of cancer but they are there because i am middle aged.
