I mean, apart from the verticle aspect I don't see why I shouldn't just get a regular monitor. Feels like a gimmick...I don't see it taking off. Also it'll obviously drain the laptop battery faster.

Well, it does fold up and would be more mobile than a regular monitor. I am guessing this product is geared to the "portability" aspect of it. Also, if you plug this monitor into power, it powers the monitor and charges the laptop as well....but yes, if you are using it without power, it will drain the laptop battery.
