Bald eagles Jackie and Shadow 🦅🦅❤️What an unexpected turn of events! Who eats the FISH? Why not Jackie? Why are Shadow and Jackie mating in March?
In this video, you'll see lovely switcheroos but also an interesting talon-massage which Jackie gives Shadow and Shadow coming with a FISH gift for Jackie but since she is absent, she eats the FISH himself and sits on the nest. You'll also be able to watch Jackie and Shadow during a THUNDERSTORM in Graupel (Popcorn Snow) Hail conditions. At the end, you'll witness a perfect date with mating and a lovely last switcheroo of the day.

Thank you Jackie for sharing the life of this beautiful couple and their life in beautiful Bear Valley Lake. We can almost hear what they are saying to each other. We have enjoyed them so much since we found them on You Tube on our TV. We have always loved Eagles but never new much about them until about a month and a half ago. It has been such a joy for us! We hope we get to see more of them when they have their next Pip :) Thank you for bringing them to us. God bless you! We will be married 60 yrs. in June.

Im so in love with these two eagles. My heart just is so big with admiration and I wish these so much happiness. I pray every single day , multiple times a day for their success. GOD IS GOOD AND HE WILL ASNSWER. :) if Sprit is the one young bird who has visited lately , I think its for comfort and hope for both Jackie and Shadow.

I think they are aware that those eggs are not going to hatch. My thinking after seeing this kind of mating attempt is that they may try again. I wonder if they will push these eggs out of the nest and prepare for another go at it. I certainly hope so.

Sure enjoy these videos; thank you to all involved that make it possible to watch Jackie and Shadow! :) I was wondering if the lake water is tested for chemicals that may cause the eggs to be unviable? Seems the Eagles eat just fish. Are owls and other birds of pray, that seem to eat more rodents and the like, also having issues with unviable eggs? Thanks.

Range is 35-45 days. I believe FOBBV posted that Jackie's past hatches were 38-39 days.
Now if the eggs would disappear out of the nest, perhaps she could lay some more.

Been so enjoying these two love birds. It breaks my heart that these eggs are not hatching. I do have a question how can we tell them apart?

Just a question. Another nest had a viable egg at 51 days. Is there still a chance for one of Jackie and Shadow’s eggs to hatch?

I read on the recap that J&S’s eggs usually hatch around the 38/39 day mark.

I don't think they "realize" it. I think the instinct to incubate or sit on the eggs starts to dissipate and they slowly lose interest in doing it. It will probably start happening soon. They will leave the eggs unattended for a little longer and a little longer, and then ravens will likely eat them when they see an opportunity.
They are already showing signs of it - till now they would NEVER leave the nest unattended and would only see each other when changing shifts - one would have to nudge the other off the eggs so they could have their turn keeping eggs warm - but this is the second day in a row Jackie has called Shadow away from the nest to mate with her on one of their lookout trees. She knows. She knew days before Shadow did last year too, he didn’t want to stop incubating. Maybe this is sign she will lay another clutch, however eagles are known to mate year round (not just to reproduce) and she didn’t lay a second clutch of eggs last year, even after realizing the two eggs weren’t viable. Spirit (female born 2022) is their only offspring - who possibly returned last week - as for the first time ever Jackie didn’t chase off a sub-adult eagle perched on a branch “in the basement” of the nesting tree, when previously she has always vigorously removed any bird that touched her tree. I like to think Spirit came to console or perhaps remind Jackie and Shadow why they sacrifice so much to care for their eggs…😊A nice thought when Mother Nature can be so cruel.

Jackie is bigger (female eagles are bigger than males), Jackie has a flatter head, and her beak is lighter in color. She sits on the eggs the majority of the time as well. She sits on them all night and Shadow takes over on and off for a few hours during each day.

Jackie is larger than Shadow, her beak is thicker top to bottom. She has a more fierce look.
I only started watching this site last year n I remember three non viable eggs now two years in a row!! Have Jackie n Shadow produced any eaglets in the past, before last years disappointments??

@hollylawless5469 Bald eagles are equipped with a natural winter coat. Their feathers, which cover their bodies and wings, act as excellent insulation against the cold. Even in freezing weather, they can maintain their body temperature thanks to this cozy plumage.

I think she did that one year. She had an egg that cracked when she was laying it, and never really showed interest in sitting on it. I think she had one more, and then they just didn't sit on them often. Then they mated and she laid two more eggs. I believe one eaglet made it to fledgling that year. But when the second clutch was laid it was much earlier in the season. I don't know if they can have another clutch this late.
They typically only produce one clutch per year, but it is possible to produce another clutch after a loss.
[Eagles reuse their nests year after year, especially if the parents successfully raise young from that nest. The birds will keep adding to the nest every year, cleaning out debris from the previous year, making repairs, and expanding so that very old nests can become enormous, up to nine feet across and 12 feet high!] That tree needs to be cut down. I know he's so proud of it, but it's LITERALLY right in front of the lake. It's way too cold. She was was stuck in the snow for 63 hours without getting up to incubate them. That is not normal. Them being there is not good for them or their babies. It was a miracle some previous eggs hatched.
Bald eagles are used to such weather conditions as they also breed in Alaska. They choose to live in such places. It is their choice and the tree and nest size is also their choice. People do not intervene in this case.

I understand your concerns but this channel shows nature and I try not to show awful and horrible things which are also a part of nature. I try to show the positive side because it makes everyone feel better. This is love thus something positive so I do not think that it is inapproriate. We can explain to children that they love each other and kiss. There is nothing wrong in it. Besides, everything is written clearly in the title and in the thumbnail so adults can decide not to show this particular episode to children if they think that it is too soon for them to see such an expression of love. I always air on the side of exposing my children to whatever when I think it is appropriate. It is not the responsibility of the content owners to decide what is appropriate at what age. I did not allow my children to have social media/ phone till much later in life in comparison to other children and it served us well but I would not expect Apple to tell me when “they” thought my kids were ready. That’s one of the many problems in society. Parents want to pass on the parenting responsibilities to presenters, companies, etc… Parent your children and they will grow up typically to your expectations.If kids are watching this it is on the parents to decide if it’s appropriate.
