    Good explanation of the Alko chassis Graham. I'm the same with the reversing overrun thingy, I know it works but couldn't explain how! Great vlog for newbies and experienced caravanners. Cheers Martin

      Thanks for watching Martin. I did read up on the reserving thing but instantly forgot and it's a vlog that could have easily been 30 minutes! Graham

    Excellent illustrative video Graham. Good thing you mention the spare as I've been meaning to take mine off to have a look. Never touched it and we are now in the eighth year of caravaning. Very useful information. Keep safe. Rob

    Nice one 👍. We obtained a levelling jack kit, comes with a handy jack point attachment for each side. Easy to fit as the Alko chassis has all the pre drilled holes. Good background information in this video.

    H Graham. Hope all is well. I am glad you mentioned the jacking points. I feel it very important to use proper jack points/brackets otherwise you would damage the chassis. Thanks Phil.👍🙂

    • @CaravanVlogger
      @CaravanVlogger  4 роки тому

      Thanks for watching Phil. Yes, jacking points have always been a worry for me. I think it'd be quite easy to damage the chassis by placing a trolley jack in the wrong place. Thanks for watching. Graham

    To make life easier with the twin axle caravan for leveling and fitting the Alko locks, take a look at Lock and Level - it's an airbag system. We have the single axle version because we own a single axle caravan, the dual axle version lets you raise the caravan on one axle leaving the other in the air so you can move the wheel to the right position and insert the lock, then you take the weight with the second airbag. I am not connected to the company, just a happy customer.

    Very interesting technical stuff regarding the chassis, it's good to have an understanding of what's going on underneath. Perhaps a mini series of technical stuff regarding aspects of different types of UK caravan manufacture on whatgoes on above. I can see it being more educational than the info manufacturers give as that's full of marketing propaganda! "Only our caravans are bonded with the finest silk laden epoxy metalised resins impregnated with a special blend of meteor and asteroid particles that are only grown in our laboratories."

    Useful video, thanks!
    Glad you mentioned the breakaway cable at the end. I came across the video below recently which explained the confusion about breakaway cables with carabiners, and those pre 2018/19 caravans like mine which tended to have spring clips.
    There is an issue at present in that new towbars like mine (fitted 2019) are designed for new style carabiner direct attachment to the tow hitch, and do not have a large hole through which to thread the breakaway cable, which should then be attached in a loop back onto itself using the spring clip.
    However, any caravan older than 2018 is likely to have a spring clip.
    Apparently spring clips are not strong enough for direct attachment to the tow hitch.
    So I and many others need to default to the less safe option of looping the cable round the toward and back on itself, with the slight possibility that both cable and tow hitch will separate form the caravan at the same time during an incident.
    I'm not entirely comfortable with this, and I'm going to get my old style spring clip breakaway cable replaced with a new carabiner style one at the next service in the Autumn:

      Thanks for the comment, very interesting. Ours does have the carabiner and I clip it in the whole which is part of the tow bar assembly. Interesting point. Graham

    The reversing on an old Bailey with a BB chassis required you to pull an anti reverse pin to allow you to reverse it was a absolute nightmare every time you pulled forward to adjust you had repeat the procedure to reverse again
