Amantle Montsho captures a first ever World Championships gold medal for Botswana in a thrilling duel with Allyson Felix of the USA in the women's 400m final. Only 0.03 separated Montsho and Felix.

Great race. It is difficult to appreciate how fast these women are running due to the lack of reference points. If you ever get a chance to run with someone who can run 23 or 24 sec 200m, do it. Go out on a track, set up a "race" and have them let you start first and give you a couple seconds. Then see what it is like as they blow by you while you are already running at your top speed.
I did. I finished 6th in my district in 200m and everybody that finished ahead of me ran 23.2 or better with the winner running 22.0.
That was super exciting. Everyone won.
Allyson went into beast mode and put on her GOGO GADGET power blaster boots in the last 50, but Amantle got her. One of my favorite 400 races even though my Allyson didn’t win
I`m confused ..why are we assuming just because she was doping in 2014 she was doping in 2011...? Was her Gold stripped from 2011...? Dont stone me ...just asking ...lol
Yeah - definitely somewhat unfair to make that assumption - I’ve seen it happen to China’s Sun Yang from swimming too. You cannot prove she was cheating in 2011 either. But to be fair, 2014 was not a ‘championship’ year, whereas this was. So it’s not out of the question she could’ve been on something here. But who knows, it cannot be proved so we can only assume she was innocent :)

I'm happy for monsho because now she gets to go home and have a good life because athletes are valued much more in africa than here in the united states if allyson had won sure we would have been overjoyed but the majority of the country would have never even known but no Monsho will go home to parades and maybe even a national holiday. Besides Allsyon goes triple gold in london so it evens out!

Montsho's best time in this event is only the 150th best ever and yet she is currently one of the most talented 400m runners in the world. This says to me that many of the earlier athletes were clearly on drugs.

Thrilling race and great effort by Montjo to hold off such a swift finisher as Felix. Actually, the times suggest that these performances were not drug assisted (but lots of weight training). The times are nearly two full seconds slower than what Marita Koch ran 35 years ago (and MK didn't look like she spent much time lifting weights at all).
Wasn't a letter found written by Koch to the governing bodies asking for mote drugs...PIDs! She def wasn't clean as you're insinuating
No one "insinuated" that Koch didn't use PED, quite the contrary. It was observed that the generally faster times in her day suggested that PED use was then widespread (and not banned until 1975). More importantly, the decline in performance standards implies that PED is much less used today.
I did suggest that Koch did not appear to do heavy weight training, but many athletes used PED who did not lift weights. Anabolic steroids, for example, enable faster recovery from workouts or injury, and consequently higher performance, with or without weight training.

Had Felix concentrated on the 400 alone, she would have won. I think if she concentrates solely the 400 I think she can beat Richards-Ross for a gold in the Worlds and Olympics.

Felix is my fave but I'm glad that Montsho won this for Botswana. I think Felix will win it this year but she really needs to improve her PB (this 2011 run is still her fastest time).
Wrong. Felix's 400 PB is 49.26, and Sshe did it clean. Montsho was later suspended and she was NEVER able to run sub 50. Cheating athlete, without a doubt.

Just noticed: Montsho's arm hit Felix's arm just before crossing the line. The front view shows it clearly: 6:23 - 6:24.
Notice how close Montsho was to the line at 7:07 ... and that's her right leg: no wonder they collided.
The collision can be seen clearly at 7:09, in slow motion. Felix was a good sport about it.

Felix should be awarded the gold retroactively. ALL medals should be revoked and re-awareded to competitors if a doper's medal performance was within 5 years of a violation. Look at Montsho in this video -- her physique is OBVIOUSLY PED-generated. And Montsho collided with her at the end!
With a doper "winner" and a doper "bronze medallist" (and the Russian doper, too), I think it's pretty obvious that the champion in this race could only be Allyson Felix.

@glen mal Felix has taken a lot of extra and random doping tests (Project Believe) since her disillusionment with the Marion Jones scandal in early 2000s. She has never failed a drug test. As I recall she has never missed a test either. Also she doesn't look like she takes PEDs - if you aren't more muscular (or have any other testosterone-like side effects), then you aren't taking PEDs that are doing anything significant anyway.

Athletes from Russia are not allowed to compete in international events whether they have ever failed a drugs test or not. Whereas dopers from other countries are apparently often allowed to keep their titles, medals and prize money. Poor Allyson Felix (who has never failed a test) gets no justice.
