  • Jurassic Park is my favorite movie of all time! It's based on Michael Crichtons novel but does some things even better than the book. These are my favorite parts of Jurassic Park (1993) and why the return of David Koepp makes me extra excited for Jurassic World Rebirth.

If I had to rank each Jurassic film, it would be in this order (not counting the animated TV shows):
      1. Jurassic Park: cmon, it’s the OG
      2. Jurassic World: I liked it, and grew up with it as a kid. The “it will give the parents nightmares.” Was such a good line, and the Indominus is super menacing.
      3. Jurassic Park 2: I think it’s kinda overrated and imo a bit boring. The raptors in the tall grass scene was really good though
      4. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom: I liked this one, maybe it’s a hot take IDK. The Indominus was cool, but it still felt animalistic to a large degree. The indoraptor was different, it felt like a chimp where it was occasionally actively malicious. Also its design of a carnivore that can be bipedal or quadrupedal was cool, and also it’s weird interactions with the granddaughter gave some disturbing implications as to what kind of DNA was added to the Indoraptor to make it so smart. The entire volcano eruption scene was cool too.
      5. Jurassic Park 3: It’s a funny goofy movie, but also the characters act so stupid in this one. The spino was cool, but it was a bit too comedic for Jurassic park film. Especially the speaking Raptor saying “Alan!” And Barney the dinosaur being intercut in the riverboat scene was just too goofy for the movie.
      6. Dominion: Haven’t seen it, but visually it looks cool but from everything I’ve heard and the clips I’ve seen, it looks bad. Like is Chris Pratt’s character now super human? Cus ain’t no way a human can survive swimming in ice water for multiple minutes. Also from the clips I’ve seen, the Giga is hyped up as the main villain but the Giga isn’t even the main villain it’s just some dumb locusts.
Also from the trailer, how the heck did a Giga and a T-Rex interact with the each other millions of years ago? Like I can excuse the lack of feathers on the dinosaurs and some inaccuracies of the dinosaurs (like the raptors being called “velociraptors” despite being the size of a Utahraptor) and just use the fact that they add in filler DNA to fill in genetic gaps to explain the dinosaur inaccuracies, but a Giga and T-Rex actually encountering one another in a flashback is so dumb.

I'll never forget seeing this as a kid. The theater employees were dressed as JP staff, you had to walk through the JP gate to enter the theater, and it was an event. 9 year old me had his mind blown. I remember being on the edge of my seat the entire time when Rexy was revealed. It was terrifying and exciting. To top off the night, when we got home, the power was off in the entire neighborhood! I had a hard time sleeping that night because I was afraid the raptors were going to come into my room! lol

Felt so validating to see Evo make the points I've believed all my life about my favourite film, the dinosaurs behave like curious animals, the humans are grounded, intelligent people with naturalistic dialogue that conveys both character and theme. There's so much ingenuity going on with the script, the cinematography, the music, the sound effects, it's all stellar! Another aspect I love is the setup to scenes. We know the kids and Malcolm and Grant are in danger, not when we see the t-rex but when we see the goat because the goat, as a visual cue, was established earlier so when we know the power is out and the camera cuts to the goat, the audience feels the dread before the characters do and it makes it enjoyable to watch every time. 😁

Mama paws took me to see this shortly after father paws passed away all the way back in 1993, it was her way of trying to spend time with me after we lost papa paws.. I remember getting out of my seat in shock and awe when Braccy came on screen and was just mind blown to say the very least. the entire film is just a joy to watch, and despite being dated in places and the CGI showing it's age, it will remain a very important staple in film history. As of recently I have begun collecting a few bits of memorabilia of the movie , including the McDonalds drink cups that were available back then when me and my buddies would grab happy meals 😸. Mama paws died in 2023 and so this film has become even more important to me now, and it always will be 😺😺

I *love* this video: fans gushing about stuff they love is my favourite UA-cam video genre!
Like you, I could say my favourite bit of _Jurassic Park_ is (points to entire movie). But there are a few things in addition to what you cover:
    - as much as I love the book, it very much leans into Crichton's deep cynicism about theme parks, as seen in Westworld before JP. What Spielberg brings is the wonder & majesty of the dinosaurs, which Crichton was, I think, too clinical to convey fully, given how very scientifically minded he was. He did do "the wonder of science" in his stories, but they tended to be quiet & tranquil, not the near ecstasy bordering on religious experience of the films.
    - The characterisation of Hammond. I've seen arguments that making him cuddly & nice rather than the absolute scumbag in the novel was a detriment, but I don't see it that way: it just means that the bad decisions he makes humanise rather than villainise him. Richard Attenborough clearly modelled Hammond on Andrew Carnegie: he was a philanthropist who did a lot of good for the world, but he also made very bad decisions (particularly regarding unions) which darkened his legacy. Hammond spares no expense on the *visitor* side, but evidently he does on the infrastructure & organisation side; he cares deeply about the guest experience, but expects far too much from his employees. Malcolm's comment about "the kid that's found his dad's gun" is important, as Hammond treats *everything* with a childlike enthusiasm that does not always treat things with the seriousness it deserves, & in the process endangers lives. Hammond is a nice man, even a good man, but he makes poor choices & draws the wrong conclusions until his talk with Sattler - which makes him a great character, since once he fully understands that lives are at stake, he makes the right decision.
    - The dinner scene is great for another subtle reason: the arguments are not clear-cut into "this is right & this is wrong" despite first appearances. Hammond provides compelling arguments in support of what he's doing, but he ends up being wrong in the end. Conversely, Malcolm uses terrible logical fallacies & appeals to emotion (in keeping with his arrogant narcissism), but he ends up right in the end. This plays on audiences' discomfort, as we know from a meta standpoint that everything's going to go wrong, so our instinct is to be on Malcolm's side - but the good arguments from Hammond & the bad ones from Malcolm give us a subconscious pause. Indeed, the only two people who speak unambiguous truth are Satler & Grant - the experts. This makes the conversation compelling, & also realistic - real people don't present arguments perfectly, they sometimes articulate poorly & rely on emotive fallacies. There are layers to it. It's SO GOOD.
    - I think the ending is amazing not just for the feel good T. rex saving the day aspect, but because it reinforces the power of the dinosaurs against humans (who don't have tanks & massive firepower) & of chaos theory. If they stuck to the novel & had Grant/Hammond kill the raptors, then you lose a bit of the idea that they're out of their depth & cannot control the dinosaurs. But similarly, they could not have predicted that the T. rex would come & save them either, making it an example of chaos theory *saving* them after it caused all those problems. Chaos is not good or bad, it just "is". (Which is another reason the final fight in JW, cathartic & fun as it was, always rubbed me the wrong way, since it basically made Rexy a tool of the humans against the Indominus)
There's so much more to say, but I'll leave it there. Can't wait for the rest of the series!

I think one of the things that some of the modern films have isn't the lack of suspense, but the build up to it. Spielberg trickles it to you in such a way that you don't even realize that your pulse has been climbing and you're holding your breath. Modern suspense doesn't feel the same.

Like you said, practically the entire movie could be considered a best bit. So masterfully done, not a shot wasted, the dialogue is tight and meaningful. I really agree that the worst of Marvel (mainly the constant quipping) has influenced a lot of other films recently. This movie is just clever and is my childhood. I watched that VHS so many times, even the trailer for The Flintstones Movie that was before it now makes me feel nostalgic, back then we'd rewind videos to the very start so I saw that trailer virtually every time I sat down to watch this film, and remember the cover for the video of The Lost World, blimey, I was 5, a very old memory. As I grew up, I began to appreciate the quieter scenes more than child me did, who then was there for the dinosaurs and didn't really understand the themes and the story. I particularly love Hammond's recollection of Petticoat Lane (If I ever write a novel one day, I'm borrowing that name, JK can have Privet Drive, I'll have Petticoat Lane), and I often see a post on social media about characters in movies who were more villains than they were made out to be like Rose from Titanic, Jenny/Jennay from Forrest Gump, and Hammond, but I'm always quick to comment to remind people about this particular scene where the realisation starts to set in, that while his intentions were good, the consequences are dire, and his last words of the film are "So have I." when Grant tells him he's decided not to endorse his park, and by the sequel, he's actually the driving force behind the protagonists mission to protect and preserve the dinosaurs on Isla Sorna/Site B. Malcolm even says he went from capitalist to naturalist, Hammond even mentions it being a chance at redemption, so he is well aware he made mistakes. I'm off on holiday next week so I might not see the next videos going into the next films but I'll be watching for sure when I get back. Did you ever get round to seeing the TV series Primeval? I personally think series 1-3 are the best, but if you want dinosaurs in familiar locations, the first episode of series 2 literally has velociraptors on the loose in a shopping mall after closing hours. Last thing, I promise, I liked you moving your face around the screen like you were there in the conversations, especially like you were sat in the back of the explorer with Grant and Malcolm 😄

4:53 Maybe this is what David Koepp meant by “comedy is oxygen” in his commandments?
13:02 I don’t think this moment gets enough credit. Not only does the eye look and move realistically but it looks menacing and intense. If that eye was peering at me through a window, I’d simultaneously shit my pants and be frozen in fear.
I hope you continue this series, Evo. I think it’s a good idea to go through the franchise’s greatest hits.

This video took me back to the first time watching these movies, and then left me wanting to rewatch the trilogy. I could watch hours of dissecting films! The bit with the seatbelts was a nice catch, but I really hope someone is listening to the valid points you made that could enhance the new series. It hasn't felt the same since the Spinosaurus, as you stated the action hero isn't relatable and that actors can perform better with animatronics to bounce off of. But wow did this video make me want to make some popcorn and dim the lights for a nostalgic night of prehistoric terror.

Jurassic Park is my favorite opening. It’s just so iconic and sets the mood for the movie perfectly. I had nightmare of a shark after watching Jaws and a tornado after watching Twister as a kid, but I don’t believe I had a nightmare with dinosaurs.
The first 3 movies is where it’s mainly at for me. I watch those three and World the most out of the 6. World still had some of the “is this a good idea” going on with Indominus and using Raptors in the military. And I personally loved when the brothers found part of the original visitor’s center. The t-rex paddock and the Raptors in the kitchen from the first movie are the best moment in the movie for me. I remember watching a behind the scenes about JP with the time it took to use the CGI and animatronics with the early 1990’s tech. (Kind of like how George was when he made the original SW trilogy as the tech wasn’t around so he had to be creative and resourceful.)

There's a lot that I love in the movie more than the novel, but then again, there's a lot in the novel I wished we've seen.
Without giving spoilers on who dies for anyone who still wants to read it, I was hoping to see a certain character's death from the first book where Raptors actually get inside a building by surprise with everyone panicking while this mentioned character dies in a detailed violent way that almost rivals Nedry's death near the end of the book, it's not just the violence of the scene that's shocking, but how sudden and "real" it felt like being ambushed by a real wild animal, sometimes you don't get to see what attacked you until it's too late. The quickness of what happened out of nowhere while interrupting that character's thought process was as memorable as Nedry's death when I read it the first time, definitely in my top 3 deaths in the novels!

If I had to pick a memorable part in the movies that’s my favourite Jurassic park 3’s Spinosaurus vs T-Rex is a top fav. I like how there isn’t any dramatic music and the focus is on the dinosaurs in that moment as they snarl and bite and push each other around, and though there are people who get mad that tyrannosaur is killed I personally always liked it since it showed how the spinosaurus was the bigger badder dinosaur and could give an apex predator like a t-Rex a run for its money. It made it all the more threatening and intimidating. And if the rumours and leaks are true (which they likely are) it’s gonna be awesome seeing the spinosaurus make a major comeback in the franchise outside of its inclusion in camp Cretaceous.

The First scene in Jurassic Park is also very atmospheric, from the beginning you know that the film is about Dinosaurs so you expect them in the beginning, after the car shows up you understand it's not a Dinosaur but it actually is, just in a cage, Jurassic Park is one of those movies that confirms expectation but not in the way the audience expects.

a bit of story, JP1 was my most fav movie with dinos, because before this, i was saw mostly old school movies, like the land before time and other dino movies, anyway, when i first saw JP i was 5-6 not sure, but i was like blow away how good and real it was, and still is, born in 97', i loved jp1 and the sence that scared me most, it was the velo that come behind from Ellie when she bring back power.. damn i love this movie still, well and my fav moment is when Alan and the kids are in the tree and watch the Brachis, i remember watch that with my father (is his fav movie i wish he was here to i watch with him as i do with all jp trilogy), but of course everything in JP1 is just perfect, well, until i saw the Lost World, then my fav movie become the lost world, from back then till now, for me, is the best movie ever! is one sence that i hate, all may guess, and yes, is kally kick velo out of window, i hate that. but ye, whole JP triolgy is my fav one, but i hope JW rebirth do velos scary again but behived like animals, this is for the rest of dinos too. and make characters feels real not like JW does... anyway now i wait for the JP2 Evo! :)
edit: of course all the sences are great in JP1 for me, but i just Love some much this with the Alan and the kids in the tree with the Brachis, it gives me tears of enjoy and nostalgia, rest sences too, but this is just, so lovely good :')

Hi Evo! I found a very interesting feature in JWE2. So under the delete option on the left there is a small empty square and if you click it you can do a bunch of cool stuff like spawn dinosaurs, goats etc. And it would make a cool video!

Also, as I said million times, Alan Grant is spirit animal 10000%
And you are right, I like Jurassic World trilogy, my 20 years old single self watching Owen with raptors was like yep, I wanted job like that and man like that all my life, BUT it's just an action trilogy. It has humor moments, it has good moments but I never felt like watching first trilogy. Never. I was glad we had the continuation but the director and script writer absolutely failed with that rollercoaster of emotions we felt with original. Ian Malcolm would said it's just action packed with nostalgic dinosaurs to sell and nobody thought deeply about it xD

7:40 I have some negative views on CGI, while it has been revolutionary, and in the 90s they utilized it so well, but when you get into the mid 2000s, CGI starts to become a crutch, Hollywood started relying on it too much.
Look at the old Godzilla movies, they had to get creative, same with Jurassic Park, they had to get creative with the animatronics and such. While I'm obviously not suggesting we just trash CGI, but I think it should be used not as a necessity as much as it should be used as a choice.
But, of course that won't happen bc Hollywood... exists, idk

In case anybody has the nerves ; I now want to comment the movies a bit. (wich means I am in writing mood)
    - at last I like the JP1-Ian-Malcolm even though he is a bit of an arrogant ladie´s-man but not neccesarily a total bad one.
In JP2 he has changed. No more Mr-Ladie´s-Man. Good !
    - notice the scene-change at exactly 7:52 - did they all sleep or what ? Look at Ellie Sattler ! 🤭
    - Youre right about the dinos being still animals in JP but also in JP2. Not in JP3. But later ...
    - I still trie to figure out a good excuse about the topografy in the scene, where „Rexy“ pushes the
Jeep over the edge. (How could I have gotten that done in JW Evolution 2 ?? Good thing that there are no tools to recreate that scene. Well, actually not but never mind. Like that huge wall with the Fence on top when you see Alan and Lex dangling from the cable. Or even later, when Alan washes his face at the bottom of that wall. Oh man, It would be awesome to be able to recreate that whole JP1-Park in the next game.)
    - The scene where the Rex blows Alans´s hat off. You can clearly see, that the blow came from down left corner and totally not from the rex´s nostrils. 😀
    - the scene where Lex turns on the big Flashlight is just a really bad done excuse for showing us the awesome good and top-notch special-effect-skills of the team. 🙄 I noticed that the very first time when I saw the movie in the cinema. And of course the steep ledge just behind the Rex-fence.
    - I guess my favorite movie is JP2. All wild, decayed and a military-style hunter-team dressed up totally cool and bad-ass. And they had cool modified vehicles. And then everything turned into a survival-situation in the most dangerous wilderness on earth - for everybody. More visible dinosars and more predator-dinos unleashing heavoc and Terror. What could be better ?😀
I absolutely dislike that the last part of the movie accures in Town.
    - The director totally messed that „still being animals“ up in JP 3 presenting us the raptors with totally exagerated and unfitting human-manners. Like actually talking to each other like humans. That is why I was rather diappointed about the movie. But I still like it because the special effects were one step better then in JP2 and they are on Site B the whole movie.
    - 2 other stupid things in JP3 : first Spino crashes face-first through the security-class-4-fence and then it gets hold off by a rattly double-door only secured by some bars.
    - I was very happy that Alan Grant re-appeared. With a nice hat too ! But I was not happy about how they changed his character. He became a sarcastic dinosaur-hater. For me that does not fit to the Alan Grant from JP1. In German he even says „Is that T.rex piss ?“ That was kind of a shock.
Ian Malcom changed too in JP2, but totally different and in a positive way. In JP 2 he appeares as a more serious and gown up person. But Aland Grant re-appeared with a rather childish behaviour.
    JURASSIC WORLD
    - in JW3 they turned Ian Malcolm into a total excentric weirdo. OK, in JP1 Hammond called him a little excentric. A LITTLE, not a total nutcase !
On the other hand ; The way Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler appear I find awesome. Like an old couple (which they actually are) that comes back together. Both seem serious and adult.
    - I see it that way too that the action-hero-change was bad. In JW1 that was still aceptable to me. The motorcicle-scene with the raptors - nice !
    - I also liked to see, how an actual functioning Pakr would look like although I did not like that high-tech-design of the Park. Especially the totally unrealistic Hologramm.
    - I very much liked the idea of Raptors being „hand-raised“ and educated by a person. But I find it badly done. Why are they still senseless aggressiv to their „dad“ and want to kill him all the time ? Not plausible for a hyper-intelligent animal wit highly sophisticated social structures. But I know why they decided to do it that way. Because that way the raptors fit much better into that stupid military-concept of a bio-weapon which at last fails because of their „unpredictable temper“. I am 100% sure that they totally not took that idea from Resident Evil. 🤢
But JP-dinos were always senseless aggressive which I always found not too plausible.
    - I hate that bioweapon-feature totally. It is totally plausible and exactly what the military would do in real life but I hate that they put that in a JP-movie and they continued that shit until part 3. That messes the whole JP-feeling totally up and turnes JW into clumsy mainsreem Action-movies. I will still keep on watching them but only because of the nice CGI-dinosaurs.
    - It is like everything nowadays : the quality is decreasing and even completely disappearing while the superficial „top-notch“-optic is getting beter and better. Most obvious examples are movies and video-games. Still good games, movies and series around, but rather few.
