Bro listening from Pakistan. Great man Josh is. I love the song anchor of my soul. Closer than a brother. Further along. His songs are inspirational. Thanks to the Lord for Josh.
I came across Josh Garrels in an interesting way. My father died just after Christmas 2021 from Covid. Our family had just moved into a rental for the winter...literally the day after the funeral. That week the internet guy came to hook up internet and he saw all our children and he asked if we homeschool. I said yes, then the conversation turned spiritual. I told him I'd just lost my dad who was also my biggest spiritual mentor and best friend. Then after he hooked up the internet he told me to look up the song Forgiven by Josh Garrels and Josh White. The music not only resonated with me but he reminded me so much of my dad before he was saved! But more so, the way he purs lyrics together is SO much like the tunes/poems/songs my dad would write. Kinda quirky but SO real! How you write and sing is such a blessing. Very folk-like. Keep walking with the Lord and honoring Him with your skills He will be pleased! P.S. stay away from prosperity gospel preachers...stick with His sovereign grace and regeneration...😊
I found Josh Garrels' music about 2 months ago. Listening to Farther Along and Watchman are part of the daily routine as i do my work, run errrands. These works of art are applicable to so many situations on any day. Thank you LORD for gifting him and for his willingness to share with us.
we love Josh Garrels music ...my 14 year old son chose The Resistance to memorize and perform (spoken word style) to his 9th grade class. Farther Along and now The Watchman are both anthems for my life..Waiting and Hoping for the revelation of Christ. #maranatha great interview!
There is a wonderful narrative to Josh's songs that reminds me of an audio painting version of "Pilgrims Progress." In this faith walk of following Jesus we fall, get up, like sheep wander, return, then grow 🌱, then see something from a fresh perspective. Father's way is always best and we are to be asking "Father, what are We doing?" Following Jesus is ideally going to be an adventure that includes stillness so that we can hear what He is saying. Great hearing a bit of Josh's thoughts on working out salvation and growing in faith, hope and love. Blessings to everyone here. Seek for treasure with ALL of your heart. These are amazing times in which to have been chosen to live. -Bryan
Josh is one of my favorites too! Great interview! Josh, in case you read these comments, I met a kid living on the streets, carrying his guitar around with him, and he was open to talk about Jesus. I showed him Freedom and he loved it. He listened to it over and over again. I think he got off the streets, so I lost touch with him, but he seemed to be moving towards believing that Jesus could save him. I think Freedom really inspired him in that process.
I'm a multi-genre listener who loves folk, americana, hop-hop, 80's and 90's rock, simple worship music and I've loved all Josh's different expressions of his art.
My favorite song is "colors", but they are all good. I'm not even a Christian, far from it, but I love everything he writes. It's amazing that he can appeal to both. That's a gift.
I found Josh Garrels from this YT channel called Josh Keefe. It is a deleted video, but in it, Keefe was calling out the staleness of some modern Christian music. Josh Garrels was one of the recommends, amongst others, for creative Christian music. My favorite songs from Josh Garrels are: Butterfly, White Owl, and Seasons of Rain.
Zion and Babylon is a beautiful story off a man who is transformed by the gospel. The greedy Babylon man who finds the beauty and freedom of Jesus and Zion. The music style changes with the man with the middle a bridge between the two worlds. Awesome song. I have a verse on my kitchen wall.
I used to listen to Josh Garrels during my first years as a Christian. I dont even remember how I found out about him. It was a nice surprise to come across this interview... and I love how giggly Preston was throughout all the interview 🤭
When we glorify God in ALL things.. It is never a "fail". Josh seems way more " grounded" in his walk with Christ and he would be "disingenious" to stray into the "self~ preservation" mind~set. It seems the interviewer doesnt get that.
Listen to Farther Along before you make a decision on him. Probably my fave song of all time. Don’t cheat yourself of maybe the most artistic and honest and talented singer songwriter in the Christian or non-Christian space.

Alright, now interview John Mark McMillan!
All of Watchman Nee’s works are the greatest books on the Holy Spirit.
He's listening to Tozer and Derek Prince. Yay, Derek. I love him and his wife's pursuit of the Lord.
When we glorify God in ALL things..
It is never a "fail".
Josh seems way more " grounded" in his walk with Christ and he would be "disingenious" to stray into the "self~ preservation" mind~set.
It seems the interviewer doesnt get that.
Jesus Christ of Nazareth.. Amen and amen..
The "gushing" interviewer was cringey.
Love Josh's newer release, "Watchman".
I never heard of Josh and so I looked up his videos. His style doesn't resonate But that's how it is with the Arts.
