Building the ultimate ALL-IN-ONE woodworking station - PART 1
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 вер 2024
- Building one workstation for all my most used equipment was tricky but with a lot a thought and good planning it seems like I'm on my way.
The idea is to build one woodworking workstation to make the most of the small space I have available.
On this station I'm planning on installing a table saw, miter saw, thicknesser and router table. I'm planning on adding centralized dust extraction to all the relevant equipment and a compressor to assist with clean up. I also plan on adding all my handheld power tools in drawers under the woodworking table with power points for easy and quick use.
This is the first installment of my building the ultimate all in one woodworking workstation. In this video, I focus on getting the basic framework up onto its rolling chassis. From there I will post videos on each tool or piece of equipment I add to the bench.

All of the videos on this channel are intended for entertainment purposes only.
Should you choose to make or do anything as depicted on this channel you would do so at your own risk.
Woodworking and the use of power tools can be extremely dangerous.
The equipment and methods I use may not work for you as it does for me and by no means do I suggest that my methods of
working are correct.
Therefore you should always use your equipment and power tools as instructed by the owners manual supplied by the manufacturer.
Always use protective gear where applicable and never attempt something you are not comfortable doing.
Your shop safety is YOUR responsibility, so therefore I accept NO responsibility or liability for any injuries or accidents you may have if you attempt to do the things that I do.
Please, stay safe and work smart.
No matter how big your shop is, it’s never big enough because as a “maker” you’re always going to push the boundaries of what you know and add new equipment and skills (woodturning, finishing, welding, powder coating, etc) so better to think “small” from the beginning. Love this idea. Looking forward to seeing your build (just found your channel). I plan to do this, but in a way where I can remove all the tools easily for working away from home.
This is a valuable addition to my woodwork collection ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxkNYRBJuiJ6EwD-tQSAlxg0eFKsnR2cgz I still will rate this woodwork plan as the best in my reference library. It always seem to stand out from the rest whenever you go through the library. This is a masterpiece.
Outstanding series all the way around. Watched every video start to finish. Great ideas. Great execution. Great delivery of explanation on camera. Thank you for the excellent ideas and look forward to getting a set of plans from your site.
Jean, I think you have a rare talent for conceiving (and realising) great design ideas. I only discovered you this week, but, because of your talent (and because you're such a nice chap) you are one of my three favourite UA-camrs! I'm just fitting my Workshop and I hope to use at least two of your designs. The best of luck to you!
Hello. U.S.A. fan here. I’m going to start building this table. It is great work, bro. I will be using pocket screws though. I’m not a big fan of screwing plywood together on the thickness of the plywood. I believe that by using pocket screws I’ll get better stability. Thank you!
I don’t think I have seen a better set up than the one you have. I totally enjoyed all of your videos. I thought I’d just watch one of the videos then I found myself watching the whole video without forwarding it. About 45 minutes later I am still amazed and enjoyed what you’ve done. I could only hope to be so good.
Thanks Tim. I've really been enjoying building this bench and the fact that people like you enjoy watching it makes it worth recording it. Thanks for watching.
Dude, this is awesome. Nice to hear your accent - I'm a kiwi living in Lexington, KY and don't get to hear the South African accent AT ALL any more. Stay well brother!
I really like this idea, I have all my tools stuffed in my small office. I have to drag them out then stash them back every time I want to build something. Super inconvenient, I am looking to design something similar that will house all my tools that I can roll out to work and then roll back into a storage shed when I am done for the day. Thank you so much for sharing not everyone can afford the ultimate wood shop.
Just starting watching this, but like you I have a small space. This type of stuff is always great food for thought. Keep it up don't stop and ignore any negative feed back. Design is always about continuous improvement.Don't stop. Nice one
I love the wood working channels. There is no shortage of really great ideas.
One of the best projects that shares fantastic suggestions to make small spaces productive and creative. Brilliant, loved every video project, inspiring BUT now proves I have no excuses!!!!!
Thanks for the inspiration! I made a badass workbench because of your video!
I'm with Macon on this one.. Nice to have another Southern African woodworker on UA-cam. Maybe if I get the guts to do so, will start one to represent Jhb..
Like your thinking around the space-saving work station.. Looking forward to watching more.
I really didn't expect so much local support. It's awesome! Thanks!
Hey man, what area in south Africa are you from? I am close to cape town. I like your workbench.
Rewatching this series again for inspiration.
Great Part 1 video, I might build this but with two half tables so that they can be pushed against the wall.
Hi Jean, your Ultimate Workshop Storage Solutions 20 minutes video brought me here. First time watching. But before finishing the storage video, I fell in love with the table and decided to see how you made it. Cheers from California
Ok so i found out about your channel like 12 hours ago and your channel has everything I was trying to find on UA-cam...thanks
Elite_Gamer_ Brad iiiii
Thumbs up for shop furball!
I have the same issue with a small space workshop so this is great!
Great project! I am setting up my new shop and plan to use your design for a workstation. I love your dog! Years ago, I had a chow/German shepherd who hung out with me in the shop. I was surprised the noise didn't bother him. He passed away about 10 years ago.
Only found you channel and an awesome job man!! Love your bench I’m a construction carpenter of 15 yrs mainly remodeling homes from high end kitchens to roofing. But have been goin crazy to make my own all in one bench for at home for small projects.Your videos finally set me off “that’s it’s I’m making my bench once and for all” haha fair play man keep up the good work! Carpenter respect from Ireland 🤟🏼☘️
Hey Paul. Are you in the Dublin area by any chance? Have you got a good supplier for wood? Here in Bray, we don't really have a big selection of suppliers.
Hi and hope you are well.
I'm just starting out in carpentry at the age of 39 and starting my level 1 diploma in carpentry and joinery.
My end goal is to be able to install roofing.
Any advice would be a real help on how i should approach all of this.
Thanks .
you made a very solid base, nice one
You are an A class Carpenter
Excellent job. You certainly are restricted on space so this certainly makes sense. Well done.
I like your style, mate...
It's nice to be able to relate to a video for once. I watched a video of a guy the other day for his "small shop" and it was like a small industrial unit, about 40 feet square! It's great to see the real world, particularly relevant for us here in the UK that struggle for space. This is so similar to my single garage unit and I am so restricted for space. I look forward to the other videos. Keep up the good work for the real people.
Good job i love it
Damn you! Just when I thought I had figured out my small workshop configuration I came across your channel. 🤷🏻♂️ Now I have to rethink the design to incorporate most of your ideas. 🤣👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
AWESOME!!!!
I think the practicality of this workstation is gonna be amazing and really easy to manoeuvre in such short space.. really itching to see part 2 mate.. great video
I'm new to your channel and I must say it's great. I can't wait to see what you do next.
Dogs make great helpers .. lol .. my dog always wants to know what im doing and like yours likes to take naps in inconvenient places ..lol
Sounds like a good plan mate
I also struggle with limited shop space. I work in a 10’ x 12’ building. I’m looking forward to see your workbench solution. Thanks for sharing.
I like your style
Love your stuff. I will be making something similar to that soon. Here in Ireland it is always a hassle to get hold of anything, not like in SA where you can walk in to a shop and buy what you want.
I have to agree with the ireland remark as I to find it hard to get some things but the local wood yard is very good for everything alandormansand sons Larne have been the most amazing h elpful place even before my strokes I now disabled but feck it i will try my best to do something from my wheelchair long as ican do it safely .
Liam Oboyle Thanks so much for that. I will go and check them out.
Thank you! This is exactly what I need!
Although I probably have about 1.5 to 2 meters extra width in my garage.
Great set of videos! Love how it turned out!!
Lekker man!
Man that’s a small workspace. You’re making the best of it though!
Jean, I have been watching (and more often than not, rewatching) all your videos on the all-in-one woodworking station (I plan to build my own actually) and have wondered how you join the plywood portions perpendicularly with such great results? I, for-the-life-of-me, cannot fathom how you line up your drilling points blindly and get all your screws to catch directly in the middle of the other board. (Does that make sense?) Love your stuff. I'm subscribed for sure! Thanks!
Hey Trey, I am quite meticulous when it comes to plotting my fixing points. I work in mm and only allow myself a 1mm radius tolerance. I pre-drill the panels to be fixed to the perpendicular panel. I then line up the second panel with the pre-drilled holes. Before fixing with screws, I drill a small pilot hole in the second panel to guide the screw. The method isn't flawless but it works pretty well. Hope this makes sense.
I have a craving for haggis all of a sudden!.
Sounds more South African to me. Could be wrong though.
Nice job. I watched all the videos and would love to build this in my garage.
thanks, good info well presented. This helps as I am just starting out again with a small area. Look forward to to the projects
interesting shirt, the company building my garage is named nailed it!
Congratulations I believe you got something there my friend good luck can’t wait to see the next videos
Nice build! Will go trough this series! :-) Thanks for making and sharing!
Hi Jean, I just love this project because one can see that it's extremely well thought out. It is also clear that it would be very functional. I have a small workshop myself so I would like to know how big your space is. It would be nice if you could do a review video when most of it is done.
Hey Gerhard. I am planning on doing a "finishing touches" video when the bench is complete where I can showcase the functionality of all the equipment as a unit. My shop is roughly 3x6m.
Hi, I love your idea. It's genial. I will do your ALL-IN-ONE working station after I will renovate my garage. All tools in the same bench it's too cool!!! So, I want to know if you may share with us yours construction plan for this all-in-one woodworking station? Thanx!
I'm buying the damn plans for this, I have an old barn falling to pieces, instead of fixing eveyrhing, I'm just going to pour a concrete foundation for this, specific worktable. Brilliant job man, you've saved me thousands of pounds and time!
Nicely done, just hoping that you’re base strength is going to be able to Indore the test of time. I personally would have gone with a steel base to eliminate that thought that came into mind. Some times wood can be unstable and wrap under the stress of a load even a light one.
Indeed. If I had to rebuild the bench I would definitely pay more attention to a better base structure.
“Daars hy..” 😂 6:00
Looks ok so far, i know what you mean about space being a pain, looking forward to the second part to see it taking shape more.
Barry (ENG)
Thanks Barry. I think plenty of hobbyist struggle with space. If the station is a success maybe it would inspire more people in my situation to get creative.
@@WoodshopJunkies
Love your site. I want to build your workbench, but much like other subscribers that live in the US I am unable to find a 6 X 9 Sheet of plywood.
I am thinking that I might need to split the difference of 5' 4" with two 4'x8' sheets. using a single sheet would be better so any input would be great. Wood shop Junkie do you have any thoughts or suggestions as to what would be the best way with your design to cut two 4 X 8 Sheets that would still work with your design?
I have been lusting over this setup for months. I have a single garage and it’s already tight but organised. Shelving down one complete side of the garage and I have cleared the rest. The wood is purchased and ready to go, but I’m starting to get cold feet about maxing out the size.
QUESTION: if you did it again would you take 200-300mm off the width to give yourself a bit more space to get around the table???
Or is it just a matter of being organised and structured.
Love your channel mate.
Great job!
Yes, I would. The table is a little too wide I will admit.
I have a 1 stall garage in the US for my shop. I would 100% recommend making the base much stronger and only using 4 heavy duty wheels. You have way too many points on the ground that could mess up the level of your bench.
@Frank Here are some great woodworking plans if you're interested: HootWood. com
Good point
Try fitting a 6-point auto leveling system from an RV to the workbench. Would be nice to have it level when you roll it outside to non level/flat driveway to work.
I saw the table in another video. I wish I had space for 1.
Skiet met nog idees, hou van jou werk !!
Etienne Badenhorst hard besig. Hoop om volgende vroeg volgende week klaar te he.
Shop nation sent me, good job man!
Well done there mate just found your channel today good video will enjoy the rest of the build
You need a Bosch 18V impact driver!
Has anybody noticed that this guy looks like Jon Snow from Game of Thrones?
Love this design. It is absolutely what I have been looking for and I just sketched out a version I am going to build. I will go a bit smaller at 4x8. I see you made this a while ago, and I am wondering if you are still happy with using MDF for the top? I was thinking about a smooth birch plywood, but curious if you have been very happy with he MDF. Thanks for the great video.

Lekker man lekker
its nice that you put some wheels to it.
Yeah, the wheels add a lot to the functionality of the bench.
i love what u did your work is badass. i feel bad for ya tho. YOU definatly deserve and need more SPACE
I REALLY want more space! Haha
say depending on what you look into MOT fractal imaging.. ive applied this to fire place mantles routerd sighnes coffe tables..... its effect is cool as f........ but a bit dangeours@@WoodshopJunkies
ohh and as far as benches go. i made one very similar, except i put a knack box at one endto hold hide. my smaller hand helds. drills grinder nailers......BUT YOUR FUCKING TABLE SAW OHHHH DOUBLE DDDDDS TITTIES BOING. how do feel giving your email so we can exchange some pics of ideas and work. im in north dakota.. but your kinda peeps
Hey man. You can email me using the email on the "about" page of this channel. (I try and avoid posting the email address in the comments because spammers get hold of it).
Lol love the dog, about to be covered in saw dust I bet. I feel your pain though, I have a BARELY 1 car garage and the wife likes to store everything in the garage so I can't get any of my woodshop stuff set up
5:15 lol ur dog doesn't gave a shit
Nope, he does not. As long as he gets to chill in the shop he's happy.
What happened to the paid plans they seem to be gone now.
I was ready to purchase.
BTW awesome table. The hard part is converting to standard lumber sizes in the USA.
Man I feel your pain, got a single bay garage, no space at all. It's my 2018 commitment to get my workshop sorted. But I think I will go different way to what you doing. I'm going up so utilising all the space. Not sure if it will work but we will see. Planning to have a storage place/ unit and and base where I would just be taking put the tools I need - one at a time. I do like your idea tho I may just wait and see how your project turns out ;) all the best mate!
Thanks! I was desperate. Was sick of bumping into or tripping over things. I figured if I have everything in one place it would make life so much simpler. I'm up to the miter saw and all is going great so it looks promising. Will post the next video soon. Please, let me know what you think when I do.
Woodshop Junkies no problems mate, can't wait for your next video :)
Thanks man! Should be out within the week.
I have to agree, if I put a car in our garage I have to bend in the passenger wing mirror, park close to that wall and I have just enough room to open the drivers door. I've started to plan my workshop in Sketchup, and can't start the build until 2020/21 but until then Casual DIY and Woodshop Junkey, you're both subbed and I'll be watching your vids for good ideas. Thanks for sharing
Great stuff! I purchased your plans and I'm trying to get the wood supplies necessary to build the work bench. One problem I'm having is that in the US the largest MDF sheet I can find is 4'x8'. Do you have suggestions on how I can partition the top to accommodate more than one sheet to make up the top? Thanks again!
Howzit bru from Spain I fell the same no space shot for this 🤙
Watched most of your videos and think they are great. Noticed on more than one occasion how your praise your Makita table saw. I am having a load of trouble with a German brand table saw and although it has been returnd to the "workshop" twice it is still a load of junk. Am I right in thinking your table saw is as good as you say?
Hi what happened to the modular workbenches idea I was looking forward to seeing that.
At last... I thought I was the only UA-cam maker in Africa... LOL, I'm in Namibia, you sound like you from SA... glad I found you... Sub'd... Great job bru...
maconSTUFF yeah Cape Town SA. Thanks man!
Just wondering if the plans are still available for the all-in-one workbench. I have, what I feel, is a small shop (12 x 20 ft.) It is also a storage area for landscape tools and such. I am a beginner at woodworking and I think this bench would be perfect for my shop. Thank you
Phil E.
Great design, I plan to build it. Question: The cut list shows PAR Pine. Not familiar with that term. Is it solid pine dimensional lumber? Thanks for clarifying.
I really like your video.
To build a table like that. What measures do you use? Or recommend me to use thank you
An awesome solution! What's the size of your shop? 3*4 meters? I'm considering building something similair. Thanks for a great channel!
The wooden posts seem much bigger than steel cylinders. Why did you prefer to use wood instead of metal for the barn frame?
lol the dog must be thinking your building him his dream dog house

I have downloaded your plans for this All-In-One woodworking station. I have a couple of questions. 1. Can you send me a list of the hardware and where I can purchase it?, 2. I understand your workbench top is bigger that a regular 4" x 8" sheet of MDF, how do you cover the whole top? Will you please reply?
LoL!! @ 5:49 "I'd rather be safe than sorry." Proceeds to do the most unsafe thing in the entire video.
I hear ya, my shop is a 2 car garage and I am always making room improvements. Only things in my shop not movable is the cabinet saw and the cyclone...
woodmasterguy it sure is sad that our beloved hobby requires so much space but where there's a will there's a way.
Hi From the UK, I keep coming back to your bench design/construction. To day I bit the bullet and got all the wood in for my bench. I should say mine will be smaller, but design feature very much in line with yours.
Can you tell me what size coach screws you used on the sub frame. Have m8 but they do look as if they might be a little over the top. Perhaps m6 might be better, less chance of splitting the wood. Great work, keep it coming
I used m8. Because of the size of my bench I didn't want to take any chances.
I like all in one workbench station, and could I get the plans for it?
Lots of comments of the size of the top given the size he used doesn’t seem standard elsewhere specifically in the US. Has someone else devised a solution for it? I’m a ways out from building this but love the design and idea. Wondering if piecing together 2 sheets is best thing or not. Having 1 solid piece seems ideal but seeing how you’ll be cutting up the top anyway for the table saw, mother saw etc maybe not a big deal.
Really wanted to build this, but I have no idea where to find MDF that big...
I’m trying to find where you have plans available for this. I remember seeing a post/place to purchase the plans but cannot find it now
My garage floor has a bit of a slope for water drainage. With castors, how does one compensate for the variations to keep the top work surface absolutely level?
Really nice bench, I bought the plans but I don't have a tape that measures in 1000ths. Everything here in the States is in fractions. 16ths 8ths 4ths etc. Not even going to try to covert the measurements.
My beautiful and single daughter would like to marry you. That would be great because as my son-in-law you could help me with projects like these. Ha!
I'll mention it to her tomorrow.
BTW.... Great stuff you make!
Guys i found a good website about woodworking that is *TopFineWoodworking. Com* you can find more than 16000 woodworking projects and plans their
Здравствуйте, хорошо получилось! Размер верхней столешницы подскажите пожалуйста, какой у Вас? Спасибо!
What was the dog doing asleep? Hey wake up you see me working here, hold this....bring me that piece!Hahahaha Good Video!
Haha. I wish. Instead he tries his best to be in the way. He's still awesome.
Ugh! Lack of space in a workshop sucks! I've got about twice the space but a LOT LOT MORE tools and I really struggle sometimes. One of my future projects is a proper work bench with front and end vise, dog holes, etc.
Hey Jean, I know this video is getting on a bit but I watched when you originally put it out and its always been my intended inspiration for a bench in my garage. Im nearing the end of the process but wanted to ask, how did you get power to your bench and keep it tidy/practical? Cheers from the UK!
Do you have plans that show all the measurements for the table in inches instead of millimeters. Thanks
i love your dog!
I love him too. haha. I have two but only the male insists on keeping me company when I'm working.
I thought ive seen some tight spaces but you have got it down. Only one question. That roll up door, it dont let up? It would have been easier to just roll it up and build it outside.
It does but there's a very uneven and sloping driveway on the other side of it. Don't think it would have produced the desired result.
I just D/L your plans for the "All-In-One woodworking station". I have one question about the measurements on part "WJ-08-076? It reads 18x1600x2400. If I remember correctly that is on the portion on the router station.
That is the bench top. I added the bench top in the last stage of the drawing (the router table) because it includes all the cutouts necessary for all the stages.
Thank You. My confusion was this looks like in your vids as a single piece. I can't find anything over 4'x8' in the US.
@@rickherrin5364 I have found 5x8 sheets of Birch plywood at specialty woodworking stores and Home Depot will order it if you find the right person to ask.
