- Опубліковано 1 чер 2024
- CLASS: GeoEng 341
PROFESSOR: Dr. David Rogers
DESCRIPTION OF COURSE: Study of procedures and techniques used to evaluate geologic factors for site selection and the design of engineered structures. Prerequisite: Ge Eng 275.
I am a truck driver with a HS education. I try to find stuff to watch to enrich my mind. Well I found this and find it very interesting and I am learning some things. It helps when the teacher is not boring 😂.
When I think of truck drivers, I think if people named Valerie.
It was interesting that the professor mentioned CA Route 1 too because just as recently as a few years ago, a landslide closed the road, which required extensive repair.
This guy is a monster
This is how I would teach engineering
As a trial lawyer for many years I can see how JDR PhD caused the legal teams opposing him sleepless nights, before, during and after trials employing JDR as expert witness. His 15 lectures here - played over again and again - accompanied my 1000 evenings through COVID shutdowns. Ty JDR.
10 minutes in and this guy has gained a new fan.
I see myself watching all of his videos once I get the time.
After working in Geophysics. rock mechanics, geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering, hydrogeology, etc. etc. ad nauseum for the past several decades, I find this guy RIGHT ON!!! CE? Comedy engineering. Goddamn engineers! Think they are gods but I always remind them....those equations you like to use were created by a scientist!!! I always say, "There are two types of engineers. Ones that say, 'do this, this and that, don't do that or that or that, pour me another beer and call me in the morning'. Then there are the other kind that calculate everything and figure this and that and still don't know what the hell the project is they were suppose to work or the problem that needed solved in the first place!! And yes, geology isn't as much as science as it is an art. It's trying to figure out the artwork God created over the millennium and eons. Even the stuff I learned back in the 70's has been already superseded or in some cases debunked.
I love it when I stumble on lectures like these. An absolute Gem.
Please do you know what textbook he used
I'm speechless. This guy is an amazing professor.
Wow this guy is amazing
speechless? really?
Please do you know what textbook he used
This guy is very interesting and entertaining. I am a middle school teacher that is planning a STEM unit on geology for my students. I stumbled on this lecture looking for geology as it relates to building stability. What a gem this is. Oh, pun intended. Will not necessarily use this directly, but condense some concepts. This guy is just so cool.
They (I) say that those that can't teach end up being the do-ers (yes I intended to say that). There are millions of engineers and rock scientists out there and VERY FEW HAVE THE GIFT OF TEACHING. I have no doubt that if I had seen the first lecture in this series that I would have chosen a completely different education path and career.
BTW my wife can't believe that I spend Friday nights drinking scotch and watching (learning) Geoengineering.
Best teacher I have ever had to pleasure to listen too.
I will continue watching.
Thank you Roger.
Nick Zentner is another awesome UA-cam teacher. He got me into geology to begin with. Now I'm a UA-cam geology fan. I want to go to Washington state!
Yeah, I like his Flood Basalts of the Pacific Northwest.

Not just a Civil Engineer but a philosopher and life coach telling his students the facts of life and how to succeed in their chosen field. I can't look at a road and a bridge now without thinking of Dr David Rogers.
Please do you know what textbook he used
This is a top notch Prof. He definitely accounts for the PhD.
I have listened to all 15 lectures. This guy is amazing. Thank you.
This guy is good. I'm not an engineer, neither geologist, but it's fascinating to find this kind of inspiring stuff from the net and learn about things one hadn't thought about much before.
TOTALY AGREE, THIS GUY IS GOOD, THANK GOODNESS GOOD TEACHERS ARE NOW TO BE FOUND ON-LINE.
it was hard to hear through his huge ego

I like the way this guy teach. He is lively, animated and real.
Excuse me you like heavy metal particulums and s*** breathing, sum ass just saying 😵😵
Seven years later, he is still a great professor.
Please do you know what textbook he used
i have to confess , this man is very professional its easy to see that he is passionate about his work and that he knows what he is saying . I learned very very cool things from him which are more akin to engineering geology ( which btw my colleagues geologist fail miserably at it )
9:51 "If you're using a ruler to draw the curves, all that tells me is I'm dealing with a freshman!" That is damn hilarious.
Raymundo Flores ikr lmao
BEST LINES FROM ROGERS!!!!
You’d think, but I’ve graded for upper division civil engineers taking engineering geology who do that. And keep doing it even after I’d mark them down and tell them not to!
I’m lucky i found this lecture in my final year as a geology student. Thank you Dr David
💗🇸🇴
This man is GOLD! really, I've spent 20 years in CM. He is spot on!
i am software dev, but i listened to a geology lecture becasue that profressor is awesome
It was pointed out that Dr. Rogers did not name the book and author he used for the course. The book he uses for this course is 'Engineering Geology: an Environmental Approach' 2nd Edition by Perry H. Rahn.
Yes sir you’re absolutely right being a judge of this video not that I’m qualified I’d say this man was under extreme pressure to point out which those points you won’t find anywhere else so sometimes moving on I know it’s a little things and the dedication of authors and they’re great but so was this guy and his presentation
Could you kindly share a soft copy of this?

Your awesome I’m a retired millwright after 24years I’ve been disabled with spinal injury I’ve had the displeasure of having to work with and carry the weight of pinheads I’m feel almost blessed to not have to deal with anymore but I really miss the work and challenges that came with the job you need tobe a thinker and on the ball and tobe able to take the imitative know what has to be done and when to do it I shut up now I enjoy your speech mr Roger have a great day thanks
Wonderful professor. Very in touch with real world cases. I am proud that he is my advisor. He is kind of professor which you can watch his lecture with learning and enjoying.
unless you are a Polish woman.
@@revertinthemaking sorry if you get offended but you have to admit living between russa and germany ain't the smartest trick
I'm an undergraduate geologist and i'm planning for an Msc in Engineering Geology. Your lectures are exceptional! Thank you for making my choice easier!
Sir getting job as a geologist is easier or harder?
Love this I dig his style comedic, a lil synacism with a lot of knowledge and experience...
really good lectures! I have learnt so much from Dr Rogers that I missed in my university education. Please do upload more lectures for us to learn more.:)
He is a great scientist. I always consult his Lectures to make my civil engineering lectures.
Respect for you sir. Cz guys like you Engineering is evolving to new dimensions.
Please do you know what textbook he used
This guy should be a life coach
Got me excited to go in and look at future projects on a Saturday! Well done!
we need people like Dr. David Rogers in the geotech profession !!
Glad to hear Zac! Dr. Rogers does an excellent job presenting the material.
greetings from Malaysia
good lecture!
currently an Applied Geology student in University of Malaya :D
hello...im a malaysian too...is biology a must take subject in stpm to pursue a degree in geology in um??
Arvinth Sivaji Greeting from KZ. Applied to the Russian state university. In my case, I had to take as maths and maths as optional subjects, can be physics and maths. Depends on college.
well sign posted, good eye contact to his student I like it 100%
Just wow. I would take extreme measures to get a prof. like him.
This guy is great! Love listening to him.
Love this guy and the whole lecture series!
he is inspiring not nagging type of guy and thad is the most important thing when you are a speaker or a lecturer ! grate job !
I dont even remember how I found this but I ended up watching the whole thing!
THIS IS MY KIND OF TEACHER
Started watching these lectures I'm an English third year, Civil Engineer I'm gonna watch all of these lectures they're of fantastic quality. Thank you for posting.
a very good lecturing technique, confident and knowing his subject well done
Thanks so much for this lecture. You are clarifying many subjects for me.
Thumbs up, amazing teacher. All round education :)
GREAT. may Allah Blesses Him. His so Smart.
Worked for a gas utility on str crew. Old timers would say read the streets. You will notice decades of compaction and also old patches good place to start. Settlement means possible main crack. Notice that crack seems alot of them form a line and its between middle and curb. That's water main. I know this is no where near your level in life I'm 60 and always liked learning about underground water movement . I'm actually putting together a map that converts 2 maps. Present satellite and 1629 map. Starting at a pond outlet weaving through neighbourhoods and ends at beach. People ask what the f are you doing that for. I can picture 1629 like i was there
Great lecture Dr Rogers
A genuine treat to listen to, makes me want to go back to university. Berkley must be quite the center of US geology, my petrology professors in Denmark were from Berkley
With the severity of the current weather or weather disasters on a global scale, most engineering geology and geotechnical engineering will change into a new additional dimension of improvisational mapping associated with the underground world map (if it exists).
Very good professor!!! We can see he is passionate!!
yeah exactly
Wauw...!!! You're eminent...!!! I really like your performance, as I think is appropriate calling your lectures...:))
Thank you dear Professor Rogers. Hope you made more courses.
Really helpful for engineers-in-training wanting to go to geotech. Thanks a lot!
What a great professor.
omg....love his lectures!!!! it crack me up....none of the engineers that i worked with are as funny as this guy... :D
Man, I wish I had Mr. Rogers as my mentor/lecturer during my college years...he is amazing. Lucky students they are...
Fantastic lecture...
10 minutes in, and I subscribed. Thank you!
You have just saved my life. Thank you so much!
He described Geologist and Engineers perfectly.
These are the best type of Professors. The funny thing is, all of my Geotechnical professors at the University of Auckland, New Zealand were interesting and funny like this. Thank you Dr. Rogers.
Thanks a good example for teachers
Thank you for posting.
i ve learnt so much from this video........... am in my final year and this is one of the courses i l be writting this semester
Nice class.... he is a good professor!
This is such a good teacher, If i could apply some of his skills in my training courses I will be a much better trainer !
wow great lecture
Great teacher.
Excellent. Thank you.
You have helped me so much in my degree. Thank you so much
Great really its awesome ......will help me in my BS thesis
@TalkingPixiesHeads
Thanks much! Glad you enjoy the quality of the course. Hope you find the content just as rewarding. Dr. Rogers is a delight to listen to, and has lots of field experience as well as education to bring to the table. We plan to release more of our classes soon, and they are also of the same HD quality.
Very informative and educative course. Thank you very much. Still the geological engineering has evolved these day, the core concepts are valuable.
I love this lecture. Great delivery and advice.
This dude is awesome! I was leaning towards Geology over Civil Engineering, and this proved to me that Geology is the way to go.
Glad to hear it! Not that there is anything wrong with Civil Engineering.
MissouriSandTCourses This video series has changed everything for me. I am now in an 3-2 Engineering program, and I will have a bachelors in Geology and Civil Engineering in a few years. Thank you for sharing this with the world. It means a lot to me personally, its really inspiring.
ua-cam.com/video/XntVs3KWzs4/v-deo.html
MissouriSandTCourses can you upload more geology and GIS lectures please. Really helpful
This guy is a great professor, too bad people like him are slowly fading away...
I wish I had a lecturer like this when I was at college
Nice lecture, thanks.
Gud lecture.. I think one of nice teacher..
Excellent compact Education in structure and design as a total context of geological time and instantaneous bonding proportioning.
This guy is amazing!!!!!!
Yes, well done !! 😍😊😎🎶😃✨
Very Interesting,Thanks
Good lecture!
A was taken a back to see the class, the are very lucky indeed.
Amazing thanks
videos are so informative for me but im talking Engineering Geology and need assistance with more basic engineering properties, like stress and strain formulas and testing etc. Thank you for putting these up though, I do intend to keep watching.
Very good class !
THIS SHOULD HAVE A MILLION VIEWS BY NOW.
I wish I had a lecturer like this when I was at college (2)
@castratedcat We're glad you enjoy Dr. Rogers' lectures and have recommended them. He makes his courses entertaining and educational, he's really a good storyteller with lots of experience and knowledge to disperse.
i like it very much...
My first impression was I like this guy and I can learn alot from this guy hes smart and cut across all fields.
you can tell this guy so passionate about what he does
Fantastic
Hilarious! My wife and I are studying for her exam and she is just dying laughing listening to this guy. I'm learning a thing or two as well. Love the Polish Mine Sweeper joke!
I guess you are not Polish.
This man is so honest and funny
This bloke is hilarious and a great presenter!
Very entertaining.
