You know, punishing him for sticking his nose where it dosn't belong while invading his private sanctum and stealing his stuff where they don't belong rings a bit hollow...
@@l0ker507 That's fair. I actually love the story of Ixalan, but of all the crimes of Azor, meddling and abandoning planes is kinda hypocritical coming from Jace. You know, that guy who accidently helped unleash the Eldrazi.... That being said, a better reason would be for needing control so much he'd GENOCIDE ALL OF RAVNICA should the guilds fail to cooperate in Dragon's Maze. As living Guildpact, I suspect Jace would be a bit peeved about that.
Azor, the literal embodiment of justice and order in the magic multiverse, being a bad guy? I doubt it. Wizards would have to write some really cringeworthily bad story for that to happen. Him being pissed about what Jace did to him and him somehow confronting Jace in order to restore what he sees as order? That I can see happening.
@@Rheinguard justice isn't always good, if it takes the form of revenge. Order isn't always good. Azor values order, not justice. How many of his government collapsed? Additionally, it's not poor writing to have a complex villain; we've seen Wizards willing to do it with Nahiri.

I would love some narration with less bias from her. I see Azor as a parallel to the order created by the Abrahamic vision of God. He can create the perfect system of law, justice and morality, but he still believes in free will. He cannot control the will of imperfect beings, and thus in the end they will always corrupt themselves. Jace just shit the bed with a potentially very powerful ally against Bolas. A potential storyline is him somehow giving Azors' spark back and appealing his decree as an apology. I don't ever see Azor, a literal embodiment of justice and morality, being a bad guy. And I see him helping Bolas even less.
Azor, "this plan will definitely work" the Law Sphinx is super good and definitely did not force others in playing the hokey pokey until their legs were cut off. Lots of suffering could have been prevented if the Boros could somehow meddle with the Orzhov, powerful artifacts that people will LITERALLY KILL OVER being locked away. Honestly, I would rather see evil people get fucking backhanded when they do stupid shit then see an entire plane suffer with laws and powerful artifacts that were never meant to be there IN THE FIRST PLACE. Azor was essentially the main cause of conflict on many planes, the thing he sought to get rid of. If I was Azor, I would lock myself up right away.
I don't agree with Jace or you and IMO Jace is a hypocrite. Jace ALSO goes to many worlds enforcing the Gatewatch's brand of justice while never staying. Jace plays a vital role as the Guildpact but he is almost always traveling.
From what i've gathered, the Gatewatch deal with large threats. The Eldrazi on Zendikar were dangerous to all life on all planes. Innistrad was one that Jace went there for answers, and ended up wrapped in another Eldrazi mess. The events on Kaladesh were sparked by Dovan, that led Chandra back home, revealing Bolas' interest in the plane. Amonket, from what i've gathered, was one they went too out of curiosity, and then got pulled into Bolas' schemes. The Gatewatch were formed to deal with multi planar threats.
@@VA_Nightshade Both parties interfere with a realm with the intention of helping them, the specifics on how they do so is irrelevant to the argument. At the end of the day Jace is just as "nosey" as Azor while also abandoning Ravinca to help someone else, despite playing a vital role to that plane.
ChaosNightshade's Channel the eldrazi are like vultures. Recycling planes and mana. In the lore The eldrazi knew that they were supposed to somewhere other then Zendikar. But eldrazi being what they are just started eating the plane they had been lured and trapped on.
@@TheSwordsman100 Perhaps but by stopping the Multiverse level threats before they get to Ravnica is a very important method of protecting the plane. That does not mean that a future calamity cannot be avoided but the serious threats that dangers like Nicol Bolas and Eldrazi pose can't be ignored by those who really care about the planes that they watch over.
I like Azor because he is the clocest thing mtg have to the God of the bible> a guy who creates civilizations and laws that people need to follow in order to live in harmony, then at some point people stop following his rules wich leads to chaos; so he makes everyone take a proof to see if they can work together and heed his advice to follow the laws and have an ordered society again (the maze the guilds had to reach by teamwork) and if they cannot pass the proof because they are too conflictive with each other, God activates a thing that nukes all living beings, like the story of the universal flood :)
That makes sense. Azor is a conceited power drunk asshole with good intentions, and so is Yaweh, the the boogeyman douchebag of the fictional tale that is the bible.
Cool video, thanks! It got me thinking about other significant characters that currently seem stuck somewhere inconsequential to the current story...... basically I wanna see Phyrexians again.
I'm just looking forward to coming back to Ixalan and seen the tower and/or City build on useless Islands built by and for the mighty gull people. gull tribal will be a thing just wait and see. just, wait, and, see.
Azor is an excellent example of this pairing at it's worst, laws for the sake of laws. Never realizing or outright ignoring the fact that perfect order is impossible simply because there will always be conflicting definitions of perfect, and that laws exist as means to an end, not an end in and of itself.
I kinda think Ugin left him there on purpose. Ugin seemed to want things to follow their own path, and it wouldn't surprise me if he thought leaving the meddling Azor on one plane would make others safer. And I agree. She makes a lovely narrator.
Did everybody forget Szadek? Zomaj Hauc? Momir Vig? Augustin IV? Ok maybe Azor has been too severe and oppressive with his laws but the 100% of the fault on Ravnica is not his.
We'll probably see Azor return in the next commander planeswalker sets. Like they did with Obnixilus and Windgrace. Obscure planeswalkers being made for the format.
Pretty sure the Torrezón/Immortal Sun thing was more complicated. Vampirism came later. Elenda was the first vampire, and undertook vampirism as a sacrifice, seeing immortality as a burden, vowing to seek the Sun, which had become an artifact of spiritual significance to her religious order.
In his defense, Ravnica at least went 10,000 years before nearly breaking down. For comparison, Egypt started being a thing a little over 5,000 years ago.
Azor should be snapped free from the guild pact magic since the housing for the guild magic was destroyed in the portal opening from amonkhet. Freeing the sphinx from his stupor and giving him his freedom. Niv mizzet might call him back with the shroud around ravnica being gone now.
Id like to see a card of him gifted a new spark in a set following the war of the spark. Id also like to see a new possessed green-black garruk planeswalker make a return and for him and the Azor planeswalkser to go head to head, lawmaking mindmage versus demonic hunter of planeswalkers, in a duels of the planeswalkers dual deck pack. But thats mostly just because I miss garruk and his story kinda ended on a cliffhanger.
I'd love an azor planswalker card for my blue white lock down law commander deck. Lmao just another card to force my opponent to absolutely hate me for ruining the game.
I wish I wasn't so curious about the character. That way I could have turned this off earlier. I'll definitely ignore any videos she voices in the future. If she stopped trying to sound "fun" there would be no reason to cringe.
Please do not take this the wrong way. But would it be possible to add more pep in the step shall we say? I miss the sarcastic enthusiasm that Seiben has had in the past.
I Think you got this all wrong. The reason why he had a "tragic" downfall because he was trying to push his own beans of justice on others. What I'm trying to say is, to Azor he was right but in reality he was wrong. There is no perfect judgement. So for Azor to claim such a decree was absurd
It would be sweet to watch Rick & Morty play a game of Magic! Or even portal to Ixalan on an adventure... A Rick planeswalker card would be awesome! :)
I find to be bs that we don't get the fight for ravnica story until April 23 shouldn't the next set be coming out 1-2 weeks after this I mean come on. Interest for Ravnica will be gone by the time we get the story, we will be looking for info on the next plane by then. MTG needs to get their "lore department" on their shit cause giving us the story for a set when the next set is due out is bogus.
@@cameronzwicke5761 Tarkir was indeed the last plane to receive 3 sets. Hence the 'new' for a return to that format. However im unsure how the single block set of Domineria fits in?
God, this narrator is grating. It's not her voice or tone that bother me; she's competent enough if a bit monotone at times. Isn't Azor dead? Also he lost most of his power by giving up his spark and alse the mending. That is why he lost against Jace who has a spark.
Azor died to vraska?

They don't enforce laws, they go to deal with large threats, and they leave the plain to reform, without their influence. Or, they try at least.
