@@izfida what the fuck does that even mean
The fan is designed to spin by force applied on the shaft, not force from the blades
So you need to HOLD DOWN THE BLADES (like he did on the video) and DO NOT LET THE FANS SPIN
I've always let my fans spin when cleaning out my pc and it has no effect to it at all
it's not the force that probably damage it, but the rpm. if the rpm too high the bearing could get damage, probably more than 4 times rated speed. but that require strong compressor. fan is not that brittle.
@@SlyStarling IT does . And i if you are unlucky it can break your whole system . So the fans generate current which could harm the components inside the fan and in your whole System. But if you wanna keep doing it and wanna risk dmg go on . :)
@@Its_Destiny I mean, i only do it to case fans, I haven't done it to my gpu cause I only recently just got it, it's an RTX 2060 so I try not to damage it 😅
@@Its_Destiny It doesn't.
If you buy a cheap graphics card from a no-name brand and it breaks, it's your fault
Everything is conceived to resist *at least* 2 to 3 time its normal operational forces.
That's called engineering a product
So, it's etiher your fault for being way too brutal, or your fault for buying cheap crap
Done that for what, 8-9 years now, and not a single problem whatsoever.
When I usually clean a gpu I completely open it. Reapply new thermal paste. Wash the heatsink and fans
I do that when I don't have warranty
Wait did you just say *_wash_* the heatsink and fans?!?
@@nazfx2648 not fans, yes heatsink
@@greb. No need for that, man. Only more room for error.
can wash both heatsink and fans, no problem. Although not necessary neither.
And I definitely wouldn't apply new thermal paste that often, usually no need (and costs lol).
Clean gpu once in 1-3 years, thermal paste when needed but often not before 5 years.
Will this work with intel hd graphics too :)
Yes but it's a 1 way ticket
wait what
Yeah and even UHD
Maybe
Umm i think u shoudnt do that cus intel graphics hd graphics is a software
This is great for someone like me who gets anxiety whenever they take something apart
You can avoid your warranty tho
or if you have 2060 FE thats impossible to take apart for example thing has alot of screws with a glued power connecter and backplate
@@garycollumbell1396 If you have a 3080 LHR from Gigabyte, its a one way ticket to clean it out
Can confirm the cutip goes hard
Compressed air weak
*DISHWASHER FOREVER*
I mean if u let the water evaporate before u use it then maybe?
@@4thDT i think the heat can be a problem.
its a reference to hgis video where he cleaned his motherboard in a dishwasher
Yeezy taught me
@@ye.32 Who reupholstered your pussy 😈⁉
PLS, never let the fan spin when using compressed air. Can damage the fan and make them loud…
Who told you that?
@@Aashishkebab he's right. People have more experience building pcs than you, you know?
@@Aashishkebab what are you talking about hes right
@@Aashishkebab me, i told him that in case you were wondering
@SHEIKAH same 😅😬
HOLD THE FAN WHILE SPRAYING COMPRESSED AIR INTO IT! YOU WILL BREAK YOUR GPU IF YOU DON'T
Bold of you to assume that I have a GPU, *UA-cam*
You can avoid a lot of dust build up like this by having dust covers on your PC as well as doing regular cleaning on the inside of your case
Nah dust covers impede airflow
Use a vacuum cleaner instead, because that compressed air will indeed push out some dust, but it will compress the same amount into a thick hump pressed against the logic board and crammed between the cooling fins (as you can see in the video). Just Google how to remove the fans only, it's 2 small screws usually per fan.
Don't do this; it's not safe (static electricity). Also, vacuum cleaners do not have enough power to even remove all of the dust in the first place. No disrespect, but I think you'd be much better off just using compressed air to blow the dust away/loosen it and let the GPU fans take care of the rest. There's always going to be a thin layer of dust around that's difficult to remove completely unless you deep-clean it (which can void your warranty and is not worth the effort IMO unless you really know what you're doing), but the effects it has on temps are negligible anyways.
Pro tip: invert step 1 and 2. Save time and air. Rejoice.
Use a dry paint brush, a small one, all over the card first, then use your duster can or air compressor.
Rinse and repeat until clean. Dry paint brushes even get smokers dust off, there isn't anything in 28 years of being a geek that has worked better for me.
Cotton swabs take too long and aren't as effective.
just avoid the fan spinning when using it
you again....
"You guys are getting GPU ??"
Do not use compressed air cans due to the aerosol inside, get two anti static electroc dusters, one battery powered for the more intricate stuff and one cabled for bulk operations
You have no idea how much "Just use a qtip" helped me, i woulda never thought to do that.
I prefer deep cleaning instead this method. Also dont forget to use more termal paste than you do for cpu.
What a nice guide.
Me who uses a vaccum: I have transcended beyond human thinking
Lmao don't do this. He is a mad man
Please just take it apart and clean it, its usually just 4 screws holding on the cooler and thermal paste isnt expensive
^^ This comment. Removing old thermal paste and applying new one makes huge difference also!
i just lick the dust
I get too caught up in huffing the compressed air.
0:17 - Use one hand for the compressed air and the other hand for a vaccum cleaner and no cleaning up afterwards
Lastly blast it with Electrical contact cleaner. Make sure the liquid drains to one side.
I legit did a clean the night before watching this on the exact same card
I done this yesterday I done exactly this lol I dident use a cue tip though I used a cloth with my small fingers and it looked brand new
Do not do step one unless you want spun bearings within 6 months. Always remove the shroud and hand clean, dusting let's fine particles enter the sleeve and ruin your fan.
Just wash it, dry it, install it. 🎉
Did you know? Cans of compressed air are actually compressed refrigerant! Try not to think about the fact you can literally buy refrigerant in a can specifically to spread into the atmosphere :D
Remember to hold the fan still to not break the gpu. When the fan spins with compressed air it acts like a generator and could break the gpu.
Acts as a generator??
@@mrducky179 fans spin and generate a small amount of electricity in your gpu. Has the potential to cause damage
@@Caleb-jq5mj actually didnt think that was possible on gpus, manufacturers would probably think about it right
@@mrducky179 i hear about that to, maybe is a myth, but a little change in the voltage of the gpu could break it yep. (not sure about the spnning fan injecting voltage to the gpu)
It only shorts if its actually plugged into the motherboard. modern gpu's, ram etc are actually very resistant to being shorted if theres no power going to them but a motherboard is a lot more vulnerable. Dont have any fans connected to a motherboard while cleaning.
If you dont have compressed air can, you can use: electric air compressor or manual air pump with friend's help.
Ill do you one better.
-Go outside and use a small leaf blower with a special attachment.
-Open up the graphics card and blow all the dust out with the small leaf blower and use a toothbrush for the heat sink. Qtips with alcohol for the fans.
- Wipe everything with isopropyl alcohol let it dry repaste it.
- put everything together connect fans and youre good to go.
Blowing side of a shop vacuum
Criminey. I hold the fan in one dinner and vacuum out the fins with a strong vacuum cleaner. Freak out if you like, but I've never lost a card yet.
I learned not to worry from my IT department that would change out motherboards on carpets. Too much emotional baggage with this stuff.
air comppressor is the solution
I suggest using a vacuum cleaner instead of compressed air. Cheaper and collects the dust too.
Great tip just followed ur steps man tysm it helps me out and now my GPU looks so smooth and perfect 🥰
Air compressors okay. Would hold fans still.
Mryeester: i mind to do it outside.
Me: but you're in inside?
Canned air? I unplug my whole computer and take it to the garage and blast it with the compressor. I don’t know if it is safe for my computer but it has worker several times and it is free 🤷🏽♂️
Still a pound of dust in there! If someone got this much trash inside the card, open it part by part and deep clean it.
The stickers on the EVGA logo… yeester you monster.
This video really helpful now I can clean my dusty rtx 3090 ti& 3070 ti properly,👍
I use leaf blower to clean my gaming pc. It cleans hell out if everything. And those who geeks telling me I am noob. Let me tell you. I am cleaning my PCs since 2006. And that 2006 pc become too old and was retired in 2018. I am cleaning my 2 other PCs same way. One is 2018 model other one is 2013. Air cans are expensive and may contain liquid droplets...like in the end of can...it happened one time. Just buy a leaf blower...clean you lawn...and Pc at the same time...just do it in short burst at lower setting...and keep PC grounded. Nothing will fry from static electricity
before and after look the same lol because the heatsink is dirty as hell haha
*It's not much, but it is honest work*
How to fully clean GPU?
for me, i would do deep cleaning by disassembling the gpu and power wash those heatsinks & fans when i can
Step 1 take a huff of the duster before continuing
Ayo that’s my graphics card!
Me without a GPU watching this
Hmm interesting
Just get one
Hey mryeester use superglue instead of thermal paste on cpu
I wish I could do that, but I've never had compressed air in my life. I wanna get some.
Its an incomplete jutsu but its honest work
Please don’t clean your cards like this, it compresses the dust into hard to reach areas and fans with shrouds (yaknow all gpu fans) will force the dust and any micro sized metals onto the pcb and components causing a big boi increase in the risk of damaging your card, take it apart and clean the whole thing! No half measures peeps!
Side note: cleaning with cotton = big boi fire risk, if a single strand of cotton from a bud catches onto a resistor and shorts two of them out it WILL catch fire! I’ve had it happen, don’t think you’ll be the lucky one where it doesn’t 🥲
Thanks for the q tip .... tip ... I honestly learnt something you rule.
If you're doing this, make sure the fans don't spin to prevent voltage from being generated by the motors!
Bro that's the same GPU I put in my computer back in 2014, EVGA 770 superclocked with ACX cooling. What a coincidence
i do this every 2 months and take it apart and deep clean and change thermal pads and other every year
More dirt, less FPS.
A paintbrush also helps well with heatsinks just don't use it on the pcb
@I love you but it could create static, but it you wanted to you could buy an anti static brush
@I love you but I use a brush aswell but I just get paranoid tbh
people are not lying about making sure you dont let the fan spin it wasnt my gpu fan but my intake fan one of them takes about 2 mind to get to the full 900rpm im using
Use caulking instead of thermal paste
The way you do it is buy a compressor, cleans everything nicely. I mean if you can afford a gpu you can afford that as well.
bruh me watching this video without a gpu
Get a gpu then
Just remove the cooler and clean completely.. much easier for me.. and you can change thermal paste to if that how its dirty..
Windex bottle with mineral oil, spray it down,it will be very clean.
I usually use a random toothbrush from 7 years ago to clean my pc
That was a bad ass gpu back in the day
Another helpful tip is to make sure you don't spin the fans with the compressed air, it can cause issues with the fan motor
Is it safe to remove my gpu without losing data or changing it for a better one?
Changing your gpu will not cause any data loss as it is not related. Upgrading your gpu is a common thing and with the correct drivers, it should work more than fine.
keep going dude
My Gtx 760 is the same but never clogged Just keep the room clean and keep the pc at height
I just put mine in the dishwasher
My fan so so small i cant even clean with the cue tip
My man got an EVGA limited edition ftw card. if i had one of that i'd be cleaning it every hour.
Just a logical advice...Do it the other way around...fan first sink second
Just use a vacuum and duck the card out. Or, if you really want to clean it (and do stuff like this on a regular basis), then get a datavac. Those things are genius, even if they're loud as heck.
If it's this bad. You should just rebuild and repaste
How to clean your motherboard in a dishwasher
What is a good low cost gpu currently running gtx 760
The before looked like a stoners dream
Be back in a few years when I get a gpu
Well wait don’t worry
@@BRUH-fe8wz ty
Better to take it apart and if it's old, repaste it too
@Sixgorillionshekelswindler Shlomo you don't need a specific alcohol. As long as it's got more than 60%, it will work fine. I've even used just tissues before if it's not too bad
@Sixgorillionshekelswindler Shlomo oh i see. Distilled water might work fine too. How expensive exactly? In the uk, we can buy 1 litre bottles of 99% isopropyl alcohol for £10 or even less and they last a lot
@Sixgorillionshekelswindler Shlomo wow that's more than double the price
He cleaned 1 side
U have to use water to clean thoroughly... 😂😂😂
Take it apart and give it new paste lol
Just use spray can every 2~3 months
It does not need to be perfect
that before though... 💀
I like my air compressor better. It's stronger and better for the environment.
I do this every month because in my old pc I lost the gpu due to it overheating overnight with the dust so now I have a day I call cleaning the boss of the computer.
Is "thoroughly" the right word to use?
I think this is the first sensible video he made without a pancake on a CPU lmfao
HE USED DUST OFF :O
Instead of cleaning I need a how to get a GPU video
Buy one there a solution
Imagine having a gpu with an inside
Sounds like a you problem
well, i'm usually disamble cooler system and doing proper cleaning of the whole gpu and changing thermal paste
just go to a gas stasion and carefully blow some air in the GPU it works Perfecly *
