I don't know if you are the best Civ VI player in the world, Bro, (I am not qualified to judge that) but you are definitely the best TEACHER of Civ VI in the world. Thank you.
The fact that you come back and make these types of videos still is fantastic. Great for new viewers, a bit of refresher for the long time viewers, and shows just how knowledgeable you are. Bringing up why you do things and recommendations to allow us to tailor in our own games is great teaching! Thanks!
Just gotta say, I found your channel through your Arabia overexplained, and man was it the start of a Civ 6 revelation. Went from bumbling around in prince to constantly flexing on Diety AI (when they don’t frame 1 bum rush me lol)! Hope this new one helps any future newcomers as I know it’ll still be entertaining to watch for a 1000+ hr vet like me.
One of his tips that really helped me was that if you want to get a religion early you can ignore the shrine and just pray (holy site prayers project) because you get more total prophet points for the same time investment. And then all of his videos in general help with learning new (to me) mechanics/strategies/tips. Things like settle on that luxury and pin everything (not just city center locations), also his 3 cities cooperating on 3 industrial districts with 3 aquaducts is just such an obvious but galaxy brain move.
@@jasonreed7522 yes to all of that. Would definitely never understand some of the useful applications for projects if it wasn’t for potato’s thought processes.
Agreed. I was in the same boat and now I’m doing the A to Z challenge on deity and am all the way to Suleiman. Thanks Mr.Potato! Now can you do a mechwarrior explained series so I quit getting pwned lol?
I dont know if this might help anyone but when Whiskey talks about hills having production during approx 5:15 , you guys might check out the mod Hillier hills that just makes hills a tiny bit more recognisible and the landscape looks more diverse. Great to see this series again, looking forward to it
Around 9:52 it is worth considering the faster growth will make you able to work more tiles faster. So while the monument may seem like it will take 3 more turns, but actually if you do the math, the monument will be made faster on the 3 food 1 production tile. Why? Because you get the second population 3 turns faster (on the 3 food 1 production tile), which means you will have 3 more turns with 2 more production. That, compared to having 5 turns with 1 less production, meaning youll end up with a total of one production less, by not working the 3 food 1 production.
I think your theory works, but it's really difficult to follow what you mean in this specific instance. Which 3 food / 1 production tile should have been worked in place of what other tile that actually ended up being worked?
I love the overexplained videos. I enjoy playing civ, but before I ran into your channel, I was... not good, and didn't understand why. I learned a lot from watching the last one, and I look forward to this to see what other tidbits I will pick up from this one!

I love early war and how different it is depending on difficulty . By this I mean the risk and reward of the whole situation like I am playing a game currently with nubia on immortal and I had a lot of camps combined with a lot of city states which allowed me to spam out Nubian archers and take 2 of the Congo cities . Now this took alot of investment but because I was playing on a higher difficulty this meant that while it was harder to capture the Ai also had much higher development in there cities and I got a temple of arteries and 2 districts free . Now if I was on a lower difficulty It might of actually not been worth it to go to war as the ai sucks with placing cities and without the extra things they built it may just of been better to settle . The point of this point is civ 6 difficulty is interesting as in theory if you have a game where you spawn on a continent by yourself and your diplomatic it may be easier to develop as you will have stronger allies .
On the UI question, I watch your videos on my cell phone, and have always appreciated the zoomed in view. I don't know if others have a preference, but for me at least it's appreciated

2 things thing I ALWAYS look for when I settle a new city (ESPECIALLY my capital) is first and foremost, settling on a river. I LOVE the water mill. I am SO thankful for this! I consider myself pretty good at science/culture/religious victories, but for the life of me I cannot do domination victories worth a damn. Eagerly awaiting this overexplained and hoping lots of informative warmongering goes on!
I have used Reyna as my first governor a couple of times, usually because I want to rush her second promotion to get +2 gold on undeveloped features. As you said it's situational however if you're playing someone like the Maori and have a bunch of woods/rainforest that you're going to leave undeveloped for the bonus production then +2 from each of them is nice. Edit: Also just remembered, I used her recently as Canada on a game where I had 8 marshes in my empire and got etemenanki. Not as good as large swathes of rainforests but still nice to boost those even further. So yeah, situational but can be useful if you want to boost early game money and can dedicate your first 2 titles to her.
I haven't tried it, but if I was doing a Commercial Zone-Harbor-City Center triangle on my first or second city (with the Commercial Zone on a river, and the Harbor next to some sea resource), it seems like her other second promotion could also be quite nice. It takes a while to get a preserve up and running, but I love putting her in a city with a preserve or national park later in the game. But if I don't have that, then I'll usually put her in a coastal city late game where I've done the Commercial Zone-Harbor-City Center triangle, and then start moving her around once I unlock the ability to buy districts with money. I almost always do Liang or Pingala for my first governor, and I only do Magnus if I see a lot of woods to be chopped and/or tiles with bonus resources that I want to use for districts. I usually try to keep woods around early game if they're next to tiles that I might want to use for National Parks or Seaside Resorts later in the game, so that's a big reason why I don't tend to use Magnus. And it's a reason why Reyna could actually be a decent choice for my play style.
Great video MR P, would have loved this content when I was starting.....bit late now though as I am bout 1.5k into the game. However, my one suggestion would actually be to go into a little more detail as some things may not be so obvious for new players for example the getting horses - just a few more seconds explaining not all resources are visible on the map and that they can appear on specific tiles, now you hinted at that but didn't exactly explain why and as a new player I would love just this extra bit of info. Thanks for all your hard work!
I literally started watching your Arabia playthrough yesterday and was wishing there was a more current version. Perfect timing!! Can't wait for the rest of this series

This was great advice!
Dude I just started getting back into civ and this video was perfectly timed
Thank you I love the overexplained series!
Thanks for sharing the Mod list. That's super helpful.
Great tutorial and YouYube channel, greetings from Mexico!
As someone who just bought this (my first Civ game) and is watching this video while downloading, thank you.
I'm glad you were able to demonstrate the curse of Korea showing up in every single dang game
I literally started watching your Arabia playthrough yesterday and was wishing there was a more current version. Perfect timing!! Can't wait for the rest of this series
I have hundreds of hours in this and still learned. Thanks
Appreciate this 10/10 tutorial 👍🏾👍🏾
