  • Whelen Strobe II power supplies for edge lightbars had a feature to increase the flash rate that was available on some bars. I have found that most supplies from the time period have the feature, but not the control wire. This video demonstrates the feature and shows how to add the control wire if your supply has the "hidden feature".

Great video/ project!! I was never a strobe guy before. My department never ran them, but now you’ve inspired me to build a home brew Whelen Edge 9000 CTS.
When it’s done I’ll send you a video and herb your in put on how I did and if I can improve it.
Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

Crazy to think the new generation of first responders will never hear a strobe power supply clicking away inside a vehicle

Indeed. When I ran one with an old siren playing in the background a few videos back I got some good and bad buried memories.

Would be neat possiblly as a intersection feature or something. Just when you need a little kick you can throw the rapid rate on. Maybe a momentary button

Exactly! I have seen it wired to the horn ring so that when you hit the airhorn or advance the tone (airhorn more common when these were made) it activates.

This specific supply goes inside a lightbar, and the wiring depends on how the bar is setup. Some have an additional wire for this.
