I mean... haven't we all had a crush on Shirley Manson at some point of our lives? 🖤
When have we not
I still do, I try not to think about it. Did you see her in Terminator: Sarah Conner Chronicles?
*nods* started with the debut of Only Happy When It Rains on MuchMusic, and has never faded away.
Yes
Surely Manson himself even had a crush on her while he was in jail.
The Romeo and Juliet soundtrack is by far one of the greatest soundtracks out of the 90’s. I still listen to it today.
Random, but the Marie Antoinette soundtrack has this cover of Fools Rush In. i think it's Bow Wow or something. Same director (the movie) I believe. Again, I should google it, but you'd dig it.
I ❤ Garbage. “#1 Crush” and “Special” will always remain a fun time.
The director of that Stephen King movie with the clown was depressed after his movie (part 1 of 2) was at the #1 spot for three weeks then dropped down to #2. Why? He explained with this, "I'm only happy when IT reigns"
The nostalgia is thick.
ever since I started watching your channel I've been noticing that a lot of my favorite songs have either a bVI chord or mode mixture or both 🤯
yassss!
I love how you (ixi) elevate our (your fans) perception of songs through your talents of observation while respectfully dissecting the various intricacies of sound, imagination, and the intentional emotional journeys the artists produced so very well. Basically..you call it out, and we have a better appreciation and understanding because you choose to share so nicely.
#1 CRUSH YES!! Have always loved that creepy sexy vibe.
The last song reminds me the chord progression of Massive attack, teardrop. great vid btw.
Two of the best soundtrack b-sides in a row. Yowza! I like that you're able to dig into WHY the things we enjoy are enjoyable.
LOL @ 9:38 “this song smokes"
i think youre the most inspring person ive ever seen on youtube on music... i love everything about you, the mastery the knowledge, the passion of music and your perspective of looking to the most beautiful artform... keep on doing what you do so we all can admire a soul like you ... all love
love you😘 that smile you have is so beautiful
In the Meantime by SpaceHog!!!!!
I love these Garbage and Bush songs. I didn't know there was 2 versions of Talk show host. I also only know the Romeo and Juliet version. Going to look for the other one now. The soundtrack version actually inspired one of my own favorite composition. Great track.
Inside Out has a pretty solid spot on my Xennial Mixtape Spotify playlist that's in the works. :-]
just wanted to say how enjoyable it was to watch your deconstruction and interpretation of the NIN songs. your passion, sincerity and connectedness to the power of emotion in music was really inspiring, and really helped me along in my own music producing. great job and keep it up!!
At last someone loves Talk Show Host as much as me
Talk Show Host (and that film) screams my childhood!
Please listen to Mew - Glass Handed Kites soon 😁❤️
Literally stalking this series to find songs to add to my bands set list!
love love love Talk Show Host (but I could say that about a lot of Radiohead) but it was something about the rhythmic element of TSH that always pulled me in, the whole thing's great, but the drums are my fave part of the track... that whole soundtrack is good though, Baz could pick em (assuming he had anything to do with picking the music :) but with Sunscreen being attributed to him - another fave - I imagine he did)
yeah those drums are amazing, especially love it when it really like, kicks in ya know?
Your demonstration of the half steps in the Garbage track really reminded me of something, a bit of linkin park but also emerging ended they I couldn't put my finger on
Get out of my head, Ixi. lol. Great choices... #1 Crush is one of my all time favs.
Have you ever considered analyzing anything from How To Destroy Angels? I love that project and I was wondering if you planned on covering it.
No plans for HTDA at the moment, but we did a whole Welcome oblivion listening party on my Patreon! Here's the link if you're interested: www.patreon.com/posts/how-to-destroy-63552456
I sometimes release these on my public channel but usually edited down for length - haven't revisited this one in awhile so I don't know. The first HDTA song I ever heard was Fur-Lined, and my first thought was "this is cool. It sounds exactly like NIN but with a female singer." Then I found out who was in the project 😂
I was born in 2001 love everything from the 90s
Fuuuck, inside out is incredible. Never heard any other song by Eve 6. Heard this VHS a friend in high school since 20 years ago and it still rocks
Love "Letting the Cables Sleep!" Cover it occasionally live. That album is currently in my car too. :)
Nightmares on Wax remix on Letting the Cables Sleep, Fila Brazillia's remix on Climbing up the walls and Thievery Corporation's remix on Dirty Little Secret were a triplet for me back in the day. Great video as always. :)
*pours a glass of wine*
Long shot…but because every time I watch one of your videos I notice out musical taste is almost one for one (between industrial rock, 90s alt rock, trip hop)….you happen to ever get into EBM/Future Pop? Would love to see break down of stuff from that genre if you happen to be into it.
What are some artists in those genres?
@@iximusic VNV Nation, Assemblage 23, Covenant, Seabound…
Thanks - no, not familiar.
The live performances of Talk Show Host are totally amazing. Ed's guitar kind of mixes with the drums... Not so hidden gems of Radiohead 💚
I wonder if it is the slight age difference or just the state of mind I was in at the time, but lots of the late 90s music, especially that from '99 like "letting the cable sleep", does not count as (or rather feel like) "90s music" to me, but is very specifically connected to the turn of the century and the year 2000.
I just discovered and absolutely love your content!!!!
The guy from Eve 6 is also extremely online these days -- in the good way, not the awful way. Good follow.
I love the hi-hat fills on that song.
I have a legit tradition of playing that song 6 times throughout Xmas eve. Started as a joke and then bled over to NYE as well. Fun tradition.
❤
Too much heartsongs for the heart to handle.
Transglobal Underground feat.Natascha Atlas - Dream Of 100 Nations album ( their first). And Lemon Jelly.
Garbage has no bad songs!!!
Agreed.
thank you for the great video
I wonder why Garbage songs with butch vig on drums who recorded Nevermind drums and Siamese Dream drums oftentimes feel so loopy and programmed
The best of the 90's was 90 percent Trip Hop... Forget about Garbage, I'm thinking of Sneaker Pimps and Portishead... Shit, even Depeche Mode was trip-hoppy
"I think sick like ginger ale"? Come on! If you're GenX that's evoking every sick day from school you had growing up.
Please do a video on Aphex Twin’s - Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments EP!
🖤🖤🖤
I love the Talk Show Host era of Radiohead, songs like Worrywort, The Amazing Sounds of Orgy, and the vibes of Kid A and Amnesiac.. it's all nice and dark and just a great mix of 90s studio editing and Radiohead's beautiful haunting chords.
Can we get an all piano cover album of these songs IXI? Eve 6!
Could you please do a composition analysis of The Cure’s “The Last Day of Summer”? I love playing that song on guitar
Hey! This video was quite lovely...I have a request that you do an analysis of I sold my soul to the Devil when I was twelve by GRLWood
It's one-two-three-four in two times... So the regular 4/4 is always nearly applicable to Radiohead. But I get your special interest in that one special track... I get that way with 'Climbing Up The Walls... You know, I hear alot of what may have inspired Kevin Parker in all this 90's specialist and alternative music; especially when it comes to reverb and delay.
Are you gonna make a 2000s songs series as well?
I might!
IXI I think it’s time for you to start making Alice In Chains content.
Here's my Alice in Chains video! ua-cam.com/video/cpZA6zV_jVk/v-deo.html
Any love for Tricky's music? Post-Massive Attack
Try Boards of Canada some time.
You've gotta cover more garbage! One of my favorite bands
I think the harmony on his voice might be his own voice reversed.....?

At one point there were so many good stuff on the radio, I started taking it for granted. As the 2000s and 2010s rolled out you could really feel it fade away.. it was just not the same. So many groups just died out, local performances/bars whose main selling point are live performances shut down, even dedicated radio stations had to close or rebrand themselves. Sigh.
Also for you ixi, new (short) recommendations: Ilan Rubin Perfect Drug ua-cam.com/video/Yl4E7lfE9EA/v-deo.html / March of the Pigs ua-cam.com/video/KLsuY6P5d1Y/v-deo.html / and I always hear you asking about guitar sounds so heres a Tool guitar Riffs ua-cam.com/video/1HzL1DqiBFw/v-deo.html
Please. Keep featuring this series, great content. Shame you didn't stuff about Cake - Teh Distance...
Oh man, the songs at the end, they need their own video. I think we are close in age, If you think about it, the people going to see all the 90's bands live in concert are older than us. I struggle to find people my age into the 90's. Where I live rock isn't very well embraced. Thanks for doing what you do, allows me to connect musically with many.
Yeah, i was in Prescott, AZ and the 90's were All That.
The remix of letting cables sleep is pretty good too. It's kind of a minimal chill mix. Ethereal and without tension, but still works. I remember hearing it for the first time on somafm back in the early 00s.
For some reason I only can listen to the nightmare on wax version of that Bush song.
