  • Something Fishy is Going on with Bees...
In the innovative realm of security and surveillance, the utilization of honeybees as digital sensors represents a groundbreaking approach, transforming these seemingly ordinary insects into potent detectors of explosives and narcotics. This unique method leverages the innate olfactory capabilities of honeybees, which, akin to dogs, possess an exceptionally acute sense of smell, enabling them to identify specific scents from miles away. The process begins with the selection of bees directly from their hives, utilizing a specialized device that transitions them into a controlled laboratory environment for training. Initially, to mitigate their natural aggression and facilitate handling, the bees are cooled in a refrigerator, reducing their activity levels. Subsequently, they are individually placed in a harness that restricts their flight yet leaves their olfactory receptors unobstructed, ready for the conditioning phase.
Training honeybees to detect explosives and drugs follows a methodology parallel to that used in training canines for similar tasks, employing positive reinforcement to associate the scent of explosives or narcotics with a reward. Over a period of two days, bees are exposed to the target scent followed by a reward-a cotton bud dipped in sweet water-prompting them to extend their tongue in anticipation of the reward. This behavior, once consistently demonstrated, signifies the bee's readiness for deployment in the field.
The practical application of these trained bees, however, presents a challenge in terms of signal communication to human operators. To address this, advanced technologies such as AI video processing and infrared light sensors are employed. These bees are placed within a harness inside a monitoring device, where micro cameras or infrared sensors detect the extension of their tongues as an indication of explosive or narcotic detection. This system allows for real-time alerts and is particularly advantageous in sensitive environments where traditional methods may be impractical or too costly.
Furthermore, the agility and efficiency of honeybees in this role are underscored by the rapidity of their training process and the low operational costs compared to traditional methods like canine units. Their application extends beyond airport security to more complex scenarios such as landmine detection, where bees, monitored via drones, circle areas indicating the presence of explosives, thus providing a novel solution to a perilous problem.
This approach not only exemplifies an extraordinary fusion of biology and technology but also opens new avenues for security measures, offering a cost-effective, efficient, and versatile alternative to conventional detection methods. The utilization of honeybees in military and security operations continues a long history of animal assistance in human endeavors, highlighting the potential for further innovative applications in the future

So ok all explosives, been found in the world along with drugs, dogs rewarded with food for tracking the products, now everything fine do the dogs get too eat freely or left to starve?
