- Pilot Chris McGee told Sky's Sarah Jane Mee that whilst turbulence is common, turbulence as extreme as this is "phenomenally rare".
He said disruption like that experienced on the London-Singapore flight was "unprecedented", and that passengers should not be overly concerned about this happening on a flight, but should wear their seatbelts.

I absolutely hate flying. Those poor people must've been terrified. RIP to the person who didn't survive.
I agrèè
Chris is an outstanding voice of experience and reason. Hasn't put me off flying.
i was put off long before this. boeing cemented i will never fly again.
I never unbuckle my belt during a flight!
Same
Dam up to 19 hours and never leave your seat! Now that's impressive! I will personally take my chances and not risk deep vein thrombosis!
I hope the toilet had seatbelts. Sometimes I wish it did at home.
Wear crash helmet when going to toilet. 😄😄
And bubble wrap
My seatbelt never comes off while seated and bathroom breaks = none for short flights under 5 hours.✈️
I’ve been through turbulence before where the plane felt like it fell vertically without warning.
It was terrifying. I absolutely hate flying.
Excellent interview and great pilot analysis and reassurance. Well done.
Female James May is very insightful
Stephen Fry’s sister?
James May
😂😂😂😂
😭
Stephen Fry’s sister!?
Captain Chris Slow 😂
Use the seat belts !!!
Whenever l get off a flight to India, it looks more of a state than that flight. The plane looks like everyone filled their flight bag with rubbish and emptied it out on the floor. All 300 of them. An absolute disgrace.
lol I’ve seen that too
Word INDIAN is the Clue
Chris gave the only prudent advice to passengers!
For the record: what we know for sure at this point is that this aircraft suddenly lost altitude, which caused damage and injury. "Severe turbulence" hasn`t been confirmed by any aviation authority as of now, it`s just a media narrative. The plane dropped suddenly. We don`t know WHY it dropped. What COULD have happened is not the same as what HAS happened.
How about providing seatbelts in the restroom.
What lol
We need to find out what happened to the person that was in the toilet when it hit turbulence?
If it was A380 or747 it would had less damage
Nice echo chamber
Was Weather Radar Working Properly ?
Why was it UNDETECTED ?
Weather radar detects precipitation. Not wind.
Weather radar can't detect clear air turbulence, it's completely invisible.
Scary 😮
This terrible turbulence is common over Bay of Bengal area. Pilots usually track around storms etc. Clear air turb is the worst.
A woman that has never experienced an event like this giving an opinion..
I have experienced it, twice, and in both events the interior of the plane was wrecked, and the planes involved did not fly again for many weeks, full structural inspection.
It is more common than explained here, and it is going to get worse due to freak weather conditions..
cant reassure me when boeing is still a company cutting corners for profit. also just the through of a plane is terrifying. a metal box in the sky weighting between 150 and 200 tonnes being kept in the air by two engines. yeah no thanks.
The weather is not friendly anymore, be careful for flights, there have been many incidents of helicopter crashes in Indonesia, 3 people died
I flew on loads of flights Up until i was 21 and i just got this intense fear about it and had horrible dreams about flying all the time. Havent flown since and that was in 2018, im 26 now.
Cool story bro.
Scardykat!
Poor baby!
Sort your audio out😂
Everything falling apart, the company and nation. Divine act out of anger with Cowboys Nation.
6000ft/5min=1200ft/min descend rate; that's ideal rate.
That’s just an average. For all I can imagine it could have dropped over 1200ft within a minute.
@@sansui77 that's what descend rate is... 1200ft/min isn't that much.... also the rate's changed between 900ft/min and 1200ft/min...
Hats off to Boeing for building such a robust aircraft!
To this generation, it doesn't seem so stupid now to clap when landing to show appreciation for landing safely does it
No it’s still dumb don’t even try and justify it 😂

Every thing extremely rare is now usually normal
Boeing seems to be a lot more on the news these days .. I wonder if anymore whistleblowers will come forward?? 😳
Planes go through turbulence all the time I've never seen news reporting it though what's the agenda here 🤔🤔🤔
Rare yea Boeing’s track record is phenomenally rare
Think the poor guy was in the toilet he didn't stand a chance CAT comes with no warning if eh was im wishing he'd stayed there he would still be here
Rough and tòugh
Where does the term, "out of the blue" come from? Maybe an old Farmer's saying? Farmers are the down to earth folks who know more about nature and its unexplained activities than the scientists who sometimes invent lies to suit the narrative. The element of uncertainty is a factor in life. Scientists can show these days , the prediction of weather through charts and educated guessing but concentrating on fear is unfounded. All we want is some Heinie pumping up the fear associated with climate change that has always happened but works for a political end. Just like our global "truckies", our fearless ambassadors to life, didn't allow tyranny to completely submerge us. Which Pope said that famous phrase, there is nothing to fear but fear itself.
Roosevelt stated in his first inaugural address that "we have nothing to fear but fear itself." His objectives were to calm the economic fears of Americans, develop policies to alleviate the problems of the Great Depression, and gain the support of the American people for his programs.
DO NOT forget the past. It has more applications to present day than millennials are willing to admit.
It’s not dangerous just like the workers who past away who left bowing two of them plain not getting put together properly
I cant fly.
Arms too short?
At T hey
I would be fuming if this happened on one of my flights. Actually, I would hit the roof!

He was alive yesterday he had plans he had dreams, he had problems he had cares and now he is meeting the lord for judgement to make this be a lesson, get to know Jesus before your time comes to an end
Amen !!! I land sunday night in jamaica and it was terrible . I prayed all the way home. To God be the Glory !!
Depends on many definitions. Turbulence may also be described as collectively Sky News, British media, British signal output.

Get a pilot on to reassure people 😂 No thanks I won’t be flying anytime soon. It doesn’t matter how rare it is the fact is it can happen. The airlines need to start taking responsibility for this sort of thing
Not news. Who cares.
A man died in a commercial flight. That’s news, pal.
Why do they always find women to answer questions damn
that's not a woman thats james may from top gear
i can't take advice from someone who has eyes in two different timezones
nothing scarier than a female pilot
Grow up!
Damn straight 💯👍

Woman Pilot, No Thanks
Dont fly better walk more safe
