GW Instek GFG8219A Function Generator Teardown
In this video we take a look at the GW Instek GFG8219a, a 3MHz analog function generator from the mid 90's. This is the upgraded version of the 8200 line with sweep and modulation add-ons installed.
After a quick look around the inside of the unit, we power it up and see how well it performs. Then we compare a few of the features, and limitations with a 2017 digital arbitrary waveform generator.
This piece of gear is from an auction lot I got at the college. I bid $99.99 on a pallet of about 20 pieces of test gear and won! Everything from bench meters to counters to function generators. The lot was described as "salvage electronics for parts" but so far every piece of gear I have played with I have been able to make functional.
