Guyana Kicks Off Singing Finch Competition

Every Sunday at dawn, owners gather across Guyana to proudly show and exhibit their birds and face them against each other in whistling competitions. These are Guyana’s speed-singing contests -a centuries-old tradition where male finches are placed in cages next to each other as judges count the number of chirps they emit in the span of five minutes. Fun fact: Guyana has 45% Indian population because I remembered mistaking a female Guyanaian-American for Indian (a native from India) back in 2018 at the funeral by saying Namastē to her which is Hindi for hello due to the similarities between a Guayanaian and an Indian because they both have tan skin colors.
